This is a mix I made several years ago that I just found again. iirc, I was trying to encapsulate a bunch of the songs I listened to in that era that brought back the strongest memories of the time. Maybe not my favorites in particular (though some are), but specifically songs that would trigger nostalgia.

Nobody really posts CDR 700s anymore, so I thought I'd kickstart the revival.

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 16 December 2010 16:06 (fifteen years ago)

If I were remaking this now, there'd definitely be more latin freestyle and perhaps more hair metal/thrash/skate punk. And some big Top 40 hits. Probably enough of that to make a vol. 2.

memories

the jazz zinger (s1ocki), Thursday, 16 December 2010 17:34 (fifteen years ago)

modrić in paradise (blueski), Thursday, 16 December 2010 17:40 (fifteen years ago)

Ooh, good idea.

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 16 December 2010 17:42 (fifteen years ago)

one month passes...

Sometimes I feel like all I ever do is sit around waiting for a CDR 700 Go revival.

Parenthetical Grillz, Thursday, 3 February 2011 02:47 (fifteen years ago)

I started on the youtube playlist btw, but never got very far. Half the songs aren't even available.

But yeah, I'd love for it to become a semi-regular meme again.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 3 February 2011 02:49 (fifteen years ago)

I feel like there's so much potential there. I love the year-specific ones, but also genre or label ones could be great too.

Those old threads are such an amazing resource.

Parenthetical Grillz, Thursday, 3 February 2011 02:57 (fifteen years ago)

I revived MD's '84 thread a couple months ago.

Wrong-Way Willy (Andy K), Thursday, 3 February 2011 03:00 (fifteen years ago)

I've been tinkering for years on a series of 100 song playlists/discs for each year of the 00's. Maybe I'll post em here when I finish and open em up for trades or whatever.

Parenthetical Grillz, Thursday, 3 February 2011 03:02 (fifteen years ago)

I saw that! So dope!

Parenthetical Grillz, Thursday, 3 February 2011 03:04 (fifteen years ago)

Thanks, PG.

"Couple months," heh -- a year and a couple months, more like.

Great Lush pick at 47. Listened to Split the other day and it fully worked.

Wrong-Way Willy (Andy K), Thursday, 3 February 2011 03:35 (fifteen years ago)

Thanks! I just happened to dig out Split the other day too.

I've been tinkering for years on a series of 100 song playlists/discs for each year of the 00's. Maybe I'll post em here when I finish and open em up for trades or whatever.

I've made one of these for each year since 2004. Number of songs per playlist has varied from 70 to 108. It's mostly a personal thing, though: standout tracks from albums I've heard, and any other random songs that have caught my ear. Which is to say, I'm usually not trying to sum up the year in any kind of historical way. I do sequence the mix in a painstaking way, however.

Tyler/Perry's "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)" (jaymc), Thursday, 3 February 2011 05:03 (fifteen years ago)

Oh yeah. Sequencing is key.

Parenthetical Grillz, Thursday, 3 February 2011 05:28 (fifteen years ago)

I should also note, these are time-capsule mixes I make at the end of each year, not mixes that I've made after the fact with perspective. As such, some excellent songs that I managed to avoid hearing during their year of release aren't represented.
