Has there been any jibber-jabber about this yet? Is there going to be any jibber-jabber that doesn't involve some minute variation on the "holy wow, this is SUPER" theme?

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 21 August 2002 00:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Fave moment right now - the DJ Shadow / Cut Chemist "Product Placement (Side A)" mix, for the "cooking with gas" rap (oh, if only PSAs were really this funky fresh), AND for that Biz Markie source acknowledgement (tho I'd like to know what that source actually is).

Also notable, on Disc 2 - Monty Python's "Penis Song"?

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 21 August 2002 00:47 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm pretty sure the Biz source is Freddy Scott's "(You) Got What I Need".

Nate Patrin, Wednesday, 21 August 2002 00:52 (twenty-three years ago)

david: when did you order and receive yours??

scott pl., Wednesday, 21 August 2002 03:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, what gives, Dave? Give that to me, you can wait. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 21 August 2002 03:39 (twenty-three years ago)

I think I ordered it about a month ago...? Maybe six weeks? I heard about it in one of the many ILX IM wrasslin' matches, clicked over to Boom Selection, and placed my order tout suite. Just got it yesterday.

I bounced around Disc 1 today (a plethora of mixes, plus slews of tracks from Osymyso & Freelance Hellraiser) - my randomizer all but completely skipped Freelance, tho. Disc 2 and 3 offer more variety - stuff from Aphex Twin, Sugababes (duuuuuuh), Negativland, Gorillaz (ungh), the Evolution Control Committee, Squarepusher, KLF, M.A.R.R.S., Mos Def & Massive Attack (that "I Against I" track I remember Dan talking about on NYLPM?) and the ever-popular UNKNOWN. (Andrew Loog Oldham? WTF??!?)

Ned, play nice. (Nyeah nyeah. :p)

And thank you, Nate. If you could also tell me what PE song Freelance mixes with "1999" in the aptly titled "Public Enemy Vs. Prince", I'd be that much more appreciative, boi.

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 21 August 2002 04:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned, play nice. (Nyeah nyeah. :p)

Never. Gimme. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 21 August 2002 04:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Favourite = '2badrappers - Forgot about the Bombscare'. Dr Dre vs 2 bad Mice's orginal, but more impressive is that it's played live on decks.

nick.K (nick.K), Wednesday, 21 August 2002 04:56 (twenty-three years ago)

David, the PE song is "Nighttrain," from Apocalypse 91

M Matos (M Matos), Wednesday, 21 August 2002 09:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Waiting waiting waiting. Waiting.

dleone (dleone), Wednesday, 21 August 2002 12:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Holy wow, "Only Stan Can Break Your Heart" is SUPER.

Jody Beth Rosen, Thursday, 22 August 2002 03:24 (twenty-three years ago)

got mine tonite. oh holy fuck yes. am planning to play the whole thing, more or less in sequence, and blog it (here). not quite yet, though, need to get some sleep soon....

M Matos (M Matos), Thursday, 22 August 2002 08:27 (twenty-three years ago)

fave so far, though, are the old reliables: "Stroke of Genius," "Public Prince," and a few new ones to me: "Musical Know How"...maybe I should just blog the fucker already....

M Matos (M Matos), Thursday, 22 August 2002 08:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I blogged a few thoughts here. Not many, but a few. I'm still taking it all in.

Jody Beth Rosen, Thursday, 22 August 2002 09:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Wah. I want MIIIIIIIIIIIIINE. *stamps feet, pouts*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 22 August 2002 14:56 (twenty-three years ago)

It's working its way west, young Ned. Patience is a virtue. Now smurf up.

Maybe we should have a blog race to see who can make it through all FORTY TWO hours first.

Or maybe not.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 22 August 2002 15:00 (twenty-three years ago)

was gonna try and make it thru all 42 hrs but have TOO MUCH OTHER WRITING to do (like, earn-my-living writing), so that's out of the cards....

M Matos (M Matos), Thursday, 22 August 2002 16:57 (twenty-three years ago)

I meant "off the cards" of course....

M Matos (M Matos), Thursday, 22 August 2002 16:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Maybe we should have a blog race to see who can make it through all FORTY TWO hours first.

Did someone say this into a mirror three times to summon me?

Michael Daddino, Thursday, 22 August 2002 23:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I know Michaelangelo had this problem, and since I am having it, too, I'm curious if other BS-enjoying folks have had this prob w/ their discs, specifically Disc 2.

I just tried scrolling through the list of tracks on the disc (via Winamp), and the program simply stopped, while the CD-ROM drive kept on spinning and blinking. I almost had an epileptic episode, watching the light flashflashflash. I take out the disc, and flip it over - there's a sizable imperfection about 1/2 an inch near the edge - an oil-slick like blemish. I'm assuming this caused the flashflashflash.

So - have any of you other folks w/ the collection in hand noticed this? And, if your Disc 2 is copacetic, any chance someone could burn me a copy?

David R. (popshots75`), Sunday, 25 August 2002 18:31 (twenty-three years ago)

JBR is making me a copy of disc 3 (my problem one), and I'll be happy to burn you disc 2. email me yr addy in private.

M Matos (M Matos), Sunday, 25 August 2002 20:42 (twenty-three years ago)

i've seen the whole shebang on soulseek if that helps ned

boxcubed (boxcubed), Sunday, 25 August 2002 21:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, I know it's out there, I just want my Physical Artifact. ;-) Besides, I'm on a Mac, etc. etc.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 25 August 2002 23:16 (twenty-three years ago)

i've seen the whole shebang on soulseek if that helps ned

That was me.

Jody Beth Rosen, Monday, 26 August 2002 11:34 (twenty-three years ago)

whoa - thanks for all the comments. it seems that people seem to dig what ive put on the cds - even the non-booty stuff. maybe i should just mail out copies of my hard drive and wait for the reaction.

apologies to anybody whos had dodgy discs - it's a known issue and i'm switching manufacturers. if you have a faulty disc then just email me with your address and which discs are faulty and i'll send them off to you ASAP. also, if you've ordered one and not recieved it yet, then it will arrive soon - i'm going through them in order and i've done all orders recieved before 1st august so far.

thanks

the_dr, Tuesday, 27 August 2002 20:15 (twenty-three years ago)

yay _dr!

M Matos (M Matos), Wednesday, 28 August 2002 15:32 (twenty-three years ago)

"Is there going to be any jibber-jabber that doesn't involve some minute variation on the "holy wow, this is SUPER" theme?"

OK... It all sounds the same after about half an hour. It's music as channel-surfing.

Ben Williams, Wednesday, 28 August 2002 15:49 (twenty-three years ago)

OK... It all sounds the same after about half an hour. It's music as channel-surfing.

Well, as my friend pointed out, it's not meant to be listened to as an "album" -- if it were, it'd be music CDs instead of data CDs. You listen to what you want when you want, pick your favorites and make your own compilation(s), and continue to savor it over time -- going back and finding new things you might have missed before. I recommend listening to a half-hour's worth every day (or week), making an activity of it, so it doesn't all bleed together.

np: Frenchbloke, "Destinys Kennedys"

Jody Beth Rosen, Wednesday, 28 August 2002 19:09 (twenty-three years ago)

'The nu ILX0R gets a mention and a link in the latest boomselection.net update' shockah!

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 28 August 2002 20:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Got it. "Hang the DJ" has some serious jams. Is that McCartney singing Sgt Pepper?

dleone (dleone), Saturday, 31 August 2002 17:15 (twenty-three years ago)

i don't really see the reasoning behind some of the selections. like, spacek?!

bob zemko (bob), Saturday, 31 August 2002 17:22 (twenty-three years ago)

why not Spacek tho? only it shouldve been the awesome 'Countdown' on there instead of 'How Do I Move' i reckon...maybe next time eh?

blueski, Saturday, 31 August 2002 18:19 (twenty-three years ago)

'The nu ILX0R gets a mention and a link in the latest boomselection.net update' shockah!
Referencing a thread started by me as well. Nice.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 31 August 2002 18:34 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah well why not jandek! the CD is called the BOOTLEG BIBLE you div!

bob zemko (bob), Saturday, 31 August 2002 20:53 (twenty-three years ago)

got mine today -- just in time for the holiday weekend -- and, and, and BS2 had peeled away somehow, the outside of part of the CD, leaving me with a see-through disc. What's more, some of the peeled bits were stuck to BS1 rendering that unreadable as well. I thought I was going to sob. Boo What luck. (Daniel was very cool about it and says he'll send new ones.)

scott pl., Sunday, 1 September 2002 01:19 (twenty-three years ago)

three months pass...
Searches for "Boom Selection_Issue 01" have been showing up in my referrals in droves these past couple days. Is it because of all the end-of-year lists, or was it mentioned someplace very prominent recently?

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 11 December 2002 19:05 (twenty-three years ago)

btw, if anyone wants to do a trade with me and burn the 2nd and 3rd discs (my originals arrived damaged) in exchange for something I have, I'd be grateful. The creators won't answer my emails.

dleone (dleone), Wednesday, 11 December 2002 19:23 (twenty-three years ago)

I can burn 'em for you. E-mail me.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 11 December 2002 20:11 (twenty-three years ago)

I STILL have not recieved my copies, and I ordered back in August. Again, no reply from the creators.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 11 December 2002 21:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Mentioned on today's Onion in their Best of 2002 list. That might be it.

Vinnie (vprabhu), Wednesday, 11 December 2002 21:56 (twenty-three years ago)

the creator of the CD appears to have gone AWOL - i was in close, regular contact with him online until 2 and a half months ago. this is very worrying and unusual. i'm still convinced he's not out to rip people off though, only i'm starting to forget what i'm basing that on now - dam you dr!

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 11 December 2002 22:42 (twenty-three years ago)

five months pass...
wow! nearly eight months after i sent money, guess what shows up in the mail? i think i lost all hope five months ago, so this was a shock.

Miranda (Miranda), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 21:11 (twenty-three years ago)

yeh its just like having a baby - you pay the price, go through months of fear and anguish but at the end of it the little bundle of joy is totally worth it

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 13 May 2003 21:55 (twenty-three years ago)

I really really really want to hear this... thing.

Evan (Evan), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 00:14 (twenty-three years ago)

haha this thread inspired me to check my mail and... !!!!!! shocker!

Honda (Honda), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 00:33 (twenty-three years ago)

this is a bit freaky actually, i wonder if the_dr has actually been sending out CDs this whole time. i don't recall sending a set to a Miranda recently...

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 10:04 (twenty-three years ago)

ten months and waiting...

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 14:03 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm wondering if anyone has tried to report boomselection for fraud/not fulfilling obligation to supply goods purchased for whatever reason. can you actually do that when the good you're purchasing are not themselves legit? is this the perfect crime?
