Swans

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 28 December 2010 22:52 (fifteen years ago)

Grinderman are good too. Gang Gang Dance are kind of hit or miss live. I hear that Salem are the absolute greatest live act that has ever been.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 28 December 2010 22:53 (fifteen years ago)

Papas Fritas are back together? Stop the presses!

tylerw, Tuesday, 28 December 2010 22:54 (fifteen years ago)

yah this may be the year i make it to this. man, spain.

plax (ico), Tuesday, 28 December 2010 22:55 (fifteen years ago)

Would def see John Cale do Paris 1919 before I saw Mercury Rev play Deserter Songs, but I'm not sure I'd be super excited about either.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 28 December 2010 22:55 (fifteen years ago)

i could maybe finally do those michel thomas spanish tapes, meet some cute spanish boys. man, i might skip the festival...

plax (ico), Tuesday, 28 December 2010 22:59 (fifteen years ago)

You need to see Salem and report back to us!

Specially Salem. I heard they're mindblowing on stage.

would be nice to meet up and say hello to any ilxors going.

barieling cosder chout a fagh in a ballme thrantuman (dog latin), Saturday, 5 March 2011 16:22 (fifteen years ago)

We'll have to coordinate something, assuming I can make it. I bought the ticket a while ago but got an e-mail saying they were sorry for the delay and there was a disclaimer mentioning that "tickets are usually printed 14 days before the event", at which time I'll be in the UK. I guess I should call somebody about that.

Gukbe, Saturday, 5 March 2011 17:06 (fifteen years ago)

looking again at those two stages, I think I'm really just worried about Lindstrom, Kode9, or Twin Shadow clashing with Pulp.

Gukbe, Saturday, 5 March 2011 17:08 (fifteen years ago)

from going the last three years what usually happens is the the majority of dancey stuff is usually on around 3 or 4am, and i'd say a headliner like Pulp will be on around 10pm or midnight

reallysmoothmusic (Jamie_ATP), Saturday, 5 March 2011 17:14 (fifteen years ago)

Had a bet on today that was supposed to part-finance my trip to this. Didn't come in. Thanks Arsenal :(

I'll be there! Although yeah, I'd be surprised if I don't end up missing out on some bands I wanna see.

I just geeked out and worked out my schedule according to a setlist I've been given. This is such an amazing lineup. Only a few clashes afaics, although some clashes are very daft - Low on at the same time as Mogwai, my mate would have a fit if he was coming down, but he's at a wedding instead.

04:00 Llevant - El Guincho
05:00 Llevant - Girl Talk

Friday

21:00 Ray Ban - Pere Ubu
22:45 San Mig - Belle & Sebastian

broodje kroket (dog latin), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 14:35 (fourteen years ago)

I love that Primavera still gives David Thomas the time of day
One of the best things at Primavera 2005 was his set with Two Dead Boys

THE Alan Moulder?!? (Ówen P.), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 14:49 (fourteen years ago)

Low's on Friday. You mean the Swans/Mogwai clash right?

I spent so long trying to sort out a useless spreadsheet someone had 'helpfully' made and then dealing with the insane way the official website puts the times up that I've not really had any time to look at what and when I'll actually see.

This time next week I'll have hopefully recovered from my first absinthe hangover and will be looking forward to some Nisennenmondai.

useless chamber, Wednesday, 18 May 2011 14:50 (fourteen years ago)

Swans/Mogwai, I meant yes. I think Low clash with someone else my usual Primavera companion loves.

broodje kroket (dog latin), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 15:06 (fourteen years ago)

anyone who needs a decent copy of the lineup, email me. dog latin at gee mail dot com.

broodje kroket (dog latin), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 15:07 (fourteen years ago)

Belle and Sebastian clash with Twin Shadow. Pulp clash with Kode9/Burial.

A couple of things clash with the Champions League final.

Gukbe, Wednesday, 18 May 2011 15:08 (fourteen years ago)

upt0eleven and I are planning to meet up at some point - possibly for Yuck or possibly some other time. anyone interested in a FAE (fancy an estrella) email me too.

broodje kroket (dog latin), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 15:09 (fourteen years ago)

Gukbe - I thought I noticed Kode9 was doing a couple of sets over the weekend, but I can't be sure.

broodje kroket (dog latin), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 15:19 (fourteen years ago)

Kode9/Burial 01:30, Pitchfork, Friday night
Kode9 and the Space Ape 04:30, Pitchfork, Saturday night

Football is going to be 20:45? There were rumours of it been shown onsite, but I don't know if anything came of it. Unsure as to whether that'd be good or not, but I'm not missing Gang Gang Dance or PJ Harvey either way.

useless chamber, Wednesday, 18 May 2011 15:33 (fourteen years ago)

Shame Mercury Rev are playing in the Auditori. When Jonathan Richman played, he packed it out, so I doubt everyone will fit. Unless they have more than one stage in there?

broodje kroket (dog latin), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 15:45 (fourteen years ago)

funniest moment of prima last year for me - asking Owen P if he was "in a band or anything" after having seen him live that morning. and twice before. and owning his records. it's the heat i tell you, we brits aint used to it.

reallysmoothmusic (Jamie_ATP), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 16:06 (fourteen years ago)

To whom was it that I slurred "get more fags and or girls to curate ATP I wanna plaayyyyyyy"

THE Alan Moulder?!? (Ówen P.), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 17:17 (fourteen years ago)

just earlier I was thinking it's a shame you aren't tbh

broodje kroket (dog latin), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 20:04 (fourteen years ago)

I have a deepset ideological opposition to any festival that won't let you bring your own drinks in. Like people aren't spending enough as it is.

Matt DC, Friday, 27 May 2011 11:07 (fourteen years ago)

Are there many that let you do that?

Number None, Friday, 27 May 2011 11:08 (fourteen years ago)

Glastonbury. Roskilde one upon a time. A few of the Balkan ones I believe.

Matt DC, Friday, 27 May 2011 11:18 (fourteen years ago)

Take a couple of spare bottle caps in your pocket. Oh shit, I'm turning into my mother.

immer wieder, ralf & günther (NickB), Friday, 27 May 2011 11:22 (fourteen years ago)

I think I might actually do that. I'll also sneak in a couple of machetes, my numchucks and a v2.

broodje kroket (dog latin), Friday, 27 May 2011 11:32 (fourteen years ago)

A later highlight was the shuttlebus service running out of tickets, luckily someone located a spare rafflebook so the buses weren't running half-empty for long. Can't wait to get back to the site today and see if I can ever spend the €30 on my card.
I think a lot of people, myself included, feel like Dog Latin, just completely disappointed that a festival that has been a guaranteed good time (this is my fifth since 2005) has turned in to a sub-Field Day anti-climax.
I thought the Flaming Lips were pretty dull, tbh.

useless chamber, Friday, 27 May 2011 13:04 (fourteen years ago)

I've worked out that everything I'm seeing tonight is in the P4k, San Miguel, Ray-Ban triangle.

Gukbe, Friday, 27 May 2011 13:12 (fourteen years ago)

Hearing that the card system has been scrapped. Cash at the bars and you can go to the top-up booths and they'll refund the amount on your card in cold hard dough.

Gukbe, Friday, 27 May 2011 13:45 (fourteen years ago)

if you guys had purchased a VIP ticket not only would there have been no queues for drinks the drinks would also be free.... a bit hungover this morning tbh

Jlloyd, I'm ready to be heartbroken (ken c), Friday, 27 May 2011 14:09 (fourteen years ago)

it's hardly sub-field day though. the loos were adequate and the main stage didn't have to be below 20db?????????????

Jlloyd, I'm ready to be heartbroken (ken c), Friday, 27 May 2011 14:11 (fourteen years ago)

xposts yeah I got an email saying that you can get cash for your card at the top-up booths. still need your card for the indoor shows with pre-booking tho, i.e. Sufjan and the rest.

Didn't end up going this year, 2nd year off after 3 years in a row. bars are always chaotic and slow tbh but it sounds like they were particularly bad this year.

heard Glenn Branca was amazing last night. Flaming Lips have been doing that exact show since at least 2003, all those animal costumes and huge balloons were clearly wise investments!

Volvo Twilight (p-dog), Friday, 27 May 2011 14:40 (fourteen years ago)

Hearing that the Big Match is going to be on the Llevante stage. Also hearing UEFA wanted too much money so it won't be. Anybody heard anything?

Gukbe, Friday, 27 May 2011 14:44 (fourteen years ago)

Hey ken c didn't know you were here! Looking forward to seeing Pere ubu, ford Lopatin, belle and Sebastian, m ward, and a few others tonight!

broodje kroket (dog latin), Friday, 27 May 2011 15:23 (fourteen years ago)

hi yes i'm here! i'll be at B&S, and pulp for sure - dunno about the others yet (see the lay of the land) . will look out for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jlloyd, I'm ready to be heartbroken (ken c), Friday, 27 May 2011 15:26 (fourteen years ago)

So as soon as Pulp hit the first chord, the gf projectile sicked absolutely everywhere and I spent the whole of the set working out how to get her home. Trying to quell the urge to disown her tbh. Oh well.. Pere Ubu were very amusing indeed and great! Belle and Sebastian were nice and I met up with uptoeleven and his friends. Ford and Lopatin were more ambient than I expected but not bad. M Ward sucked - how can someone with so much talent suddenly decide they're better off making boogie bar rock is beyond me.

broodje kroket (dog latin), Saturday, 28 May 2011 09:17 (fourteen years ago)

Much better having a money system at the bars btw.

immer wieder, ralf & günther (NickB), Saturday, 28 May 2011 09:39 (fourteen years ago)

Rong. b&s were decent but their music got a bit lost of you weren´t front and centre of the stage; same for The National but I think maybe we just weren´t close enough; big set from Pulp, playing everything I´d have wanted them to, except maybe Help The Aged, but I can live with that.

caught the end of Jamie XX playing his version of I´m New Here which feels kinda poignant this morning. lindstrom´s live set was a great closer but I was pretty dead by that point, and spent most of it trying to find a urinal that wasn´t overflowing.

ken, will drop you a text to see if you want to meet up for football on Llevant.

Upt0eleven, Saturday, 28 May 2011 10:44 (fourteen years ago)

Good to meet you briefly uptoeleven, sadly my evening went a bit downhill after we parted ways. Determined to male a proper one of it tonight - third time lucky. Maybe catch you at Yuck.

broodje kroket (dog latin), Saturday, 28 May 2011 11:11 (fourteen years ago)

Male? Make.

broodje kroket (dog latin), Saturday, 28 May 2011 11:12 (fourteen years ago)

Twin Shadow were great. I was surprised by how much I loved Pulp. Was fading fast but Lindstrom's I Feel Space -> Breakfast in Heaven got me through.

Gukbe, Saturday, 28 May 2011 12:26 (fourteen years ago)

yes text me for football!! p.s. i have cards, and the apartment is near by, try and find steve albini????

Jlloyd, I'm ready to be heartbroken (ken c), Saturday, 28 May 2011 13:00 (fourteen years ago)

Tonight rocked quite a lot I thought!

broodje kroket (dog latin), Sunday, 29 May 2011 05:25 (fourteen years ago)

It did, although my feet were absolutely throbbing by about 4. Five cconsecutive nights of 5am+ finishes is really more than I can manage. Also one night in a park didn´t help.

Failed to meet up with Ken due to needle in haystack reasons at the football, although will try again today if you´re still about?

Fun Fact of yesterday: Mogwai dedicated a song to Gil Scott Heron called "I´m Jim Morrison, I´m dead."

Upt0eleven, Sunday, 29 May 2011 11:03 (fourteen years ago)

Yep my feet were on fire! So is anything goin on today then? I would love to see mercury rev but I think my peeps are gigged out.

broodje kroket (dog latin), Sunday, 29 May 2011 11:10 (fourteen years ago)

I heard that Mogwai dedicated a song to Gil Scott-Heron and was wondering which it was, thanks!

just call me brian (krakow), Sunday, 29 May 2011 11:18 (fourteen years ago)

Mixed feelings about the festival and lack of engagement http://inlog.org/2011/05/31/review-primavera-festival-is-indie-the-new-alternative/

nonobody, Tuesday, 31 May 2011 15:54 (fourteen years ago)

Here are some very brief notes and musings about the festival I knocked out this lunchtime: http://charlieframe.wordpress.com/2011/06/02/primavera-sound-2011/?preview=true&preview_id=229&preview_nonce=b66f58ba49

is indie the new alternative? narcissism of small differences

bandcamper van beethoven (Edward III), Thursday, 2 June 2011 13:30 (fourteen years ago)

"DJ Shadow in his astounding Shadowsphere (has to be seen to be believed)"

.. so true (the level of lameness) the credits that come up at the end!!!!!!! ha ha.

Gary Numan, or Gary Fletcher (ken c), Friday, 3 June 2011 19:26 (fourteen years ago)

you saying you didn't like it ken?

yes the credits sucked a bit - killed the mood, but i thought it was kind of amazing

broodje kroket (dog latin), Friday, 3 June 2011 20:24 (fourteen years ago)

i dunno, thought it was a bit naff! i like that he has to manually turn it like a curtain. but yeah mean, credits.. come ON!

i may have been a bit over cynical though.

Gary Numan, or Gary Fletcher (ken c), Wednesday, 8 June 2011 12:54 (fourteen years ago)

five months pass...

Just bought my 2012 ticket! Jeff Mangnum, Bjork, Other Lives, Guided By Voices, Neon Indian and a couple of others confirmed so far. It was 160euros - is that the same as last year or has it gone up?

Glo-Vember (dog latin), Friday, 11 November 2011 14:34 (fourteen years ago)

Good stuff. I'm going to the Porto one this year. I've been at the last 2 in Barcelona but circumstances have played against me going there this year so I'll have to make do with the 'new' and 'smaller' version.

AnotherDeadHero, Friday, 11 November 2011 15:35 (fourteen years ago)

Oh yeah, meant to add, it's the best fucking festival in the whole damn world!

AnotherDeadHero, Friday, 11 November 2011 15:35 (fourteen years ago)

I saw that Porto thing - what's it like? Is there much difference (line-up/setting). Part of the reason I am going to BCN is because my best friend moved out there early this year so it gives me a chance to kick it with him and see some fucking amazing live music.

Glo-Vember (dog latin), Friday, 11 November 2011 15:37 (fourteen years ago)

otm imo xp
I’m probably not going to make it this year though

Aerosol, Friday, 11 November 2011 15:39 (fourteen years ago)

Porto is new so nobody knows quite how it will be, but line-up will overlap a lot from what I hear and the setting looks beautiful plus we will have our stage out there so thats exciting :-)

Jamie_ATP, Friday, 11 November 2011 15:49 (fourteen years ago)

Primavera is definitely the best festival I've ever been to. V much looking forward to Porto as I've been to the Barcelona one 3 times, plus another 3 or 4 visits to that city in the last ten years. Porto's slightly more awkward to get to (no direct flights from Dublin) but I reckon I'll fly to Lisbon and get the train.

Line-up seems pretty similar. Guided By Voices are only doing BCN which is a bit of a bummer but I've seen them a bunch of times. Bjork, Yo La Tengo and Jeff Mangum have all just been announced for both versions, which is deadly news.

Tix for Porto are €75 until the end of 2011, which is excellent value compared to festivals in Ireland.

Volvo Twilight (p-dog), Friday, 11 November 2011 15:56 (fourteen years ago)

Any hints of other acts in the Porto line-up Jamie?! your secret will be safe with ILX....

I'm daydreaming that Paul Simon will make Porto a stop on the Graceland reunion tour. V unlikely I suppose, but Neil Young headlined a few years ago so it's not beyond the bounds of possibility?

Volvo Twilight (p-dog), Friday, 11 November 2011 15:58 (fourteen years ago)

So the Porto one is half the price of the BCN one? Sounds a bit unfair. I guess it is technically a new festival, but still...

Glo-Vember (dog latin), Friday, 11 November 2011 16:13 (fourteen years ago)

It's only two full days and two days of the smaller around-town free events, iirc. Fewer bands as well.

I'd written off Barca Primavera due to overfamiliarity and a slight feeling off disappointment this year, and a huge need to not spend the best part of £400 on festivals etc. Porto almost swung it with its relative cheapness and novelty factor but it's the same weekend as a good friend's wedding, and he'd already scheduled that so that it wouldn't clash with Barca, so I feel obliged (in a good way) to go to that.

Skrillex Ferguson (useless chamber), Friday, 11 November 2011 16:21 (fourteen years ago)

They really cocked up the bar system this year, almost to the point of ruining things for a few people, but we still had the best time ever and the lineup is virtually unparalleled. I don't get to see enough live music in the year so it's well worth my time.

Glo-Vember (dog latin), Friday, 11 November 2011 16:26 (fourteen years ago)

Did not know about this Porto thing. Colour me intrigued.

Number None, Friday, 11 November 2011 16:33 (fourteen years ago)

I know a few names which are very special things indeed (for me) plus the plans for our stage are grrrrrreat. But yeah, obviously i can't tell you them. Here's a picture of the Porto site:

Jamie_ATP, Friday, 11 November 2011 18:00 (fourteen years ago)

what is porto?

Youth Ya Goon (Whiney G. Weingarten), Friday, 11 November 2011 18:37 (fourteen years ago)

A town in Portugal

Aerosol, Friday, 11 November 2011 18:41 (fourteen years ago)

I had pretty much given up on my plans of visiting Barcelona next year.
Visiting from 08-10 and missing out last year, the appeal and unique atmosphere - at least for me - started to wane a bit due to the huge increase in ticket prices and crowd numbers and my general weariness of the location. But this Porto thing now, it looks indeed very promising.

A bit like meeting a surreal younger version of your now-familiar gf with the prospect of reliving all the magical aspects of your first encounter. Might do this!
