and my 26 is the 8Ball and MJG and I might switch that out so
i'm not much of a rap fan, but i like what joe tangari had to say about a twista song on his blog this month:
I’ve never much cared about virtuosity. I think it’s great when a musician manages to elevate his craft to a truly elite level, but it’s what he then does with that skill that’s important. Musicality before virtuosity—that’s the standard, I think.Twista is a virtuoso. I don’t think there’s any question he has otherworldly talent—I think he’s actually in the Guinness Book of World Records for fastest rapping—but I don’t think that would amount to much if he wasn’t so bloody musical when he wields that prodigious skill. This is my favorite hip-hop track of the year. I’ll be the first to admit I have a very casual relationship with hip-hop—I think with all the other things I’ve devoted myself to really thoroughly exploring and learning, it’s just lost out because I don’t have enough time to really follow it and work my way through the history. Consequently, my hip-hop collection and knowledge is a weird patchwork of gaping holes, sketchy knowledge and random things I heard once and happened to like.I’m also not much of a lyrics person, so I suppose there’s a reason it’s never been my chosen area of focus in the same way that I’ve never really listened to much Bob Dylan. I think the reason this song is a top ten lock for me is that, while it’s certainly got a lot going on lyrically, it also sounds brilliant. My relationship with music is first and foremost a relationship with raw sound. It’s what I respond to, and this song hits so many pleasure centers in that regard.First, there’s the matter of Twista’s rapping. I love the way he constantly varies his flow—one second he’s on the one, the next, he’s syncopating across the bar. The emphasis never stays static. And Raekwon is a good foil, with his more paced, heavy delivery. And then there’s the chorus, erupting out of nowhere with that great-sounding guitar (is that a sample? If so, of what?). Everything about it is tight and on-point. This is what you should do with virtuosity.

I just make lists of commerically released albums because i'm confident I can hear 80%-90% of commercially released albums and take a hard stance. I usually don't hear mixtapes until they reach some critical mass (though obv I like Big KRIT, Roach Gigz, Fabolous, Tyler The Creator, Freddie Gibbs, Playboy Tre, etc.)
Also, I like to own CDs, I like the "album" format, and I like to listen to music I can keep forever instead of stuff that I'm gonna put on a harddrive that I'm not gonna back up for 20/30 years.
I'm a rap fan with rockist tendancies, so sue me
