69, Tuesday, 4 January 2011 23:40 (fourteen years ago)

"Farrar, Straus and Giroux (Sea of Tears)" is such a hilarious song title

havent listened to this since high school (!) maybe

gonna put it on tonight

they fund ph.d studies, don't they? (Lamp), Tuesday, 4 January 2011 23:42 (fourteen years ago)

The Sublimation Hour is kind of the ultimate Destroyer tune. But I could also go with virgin with a memory. and maybe a few others here too. great album.

tylerw, Tuesday, 4 January 2011 23:46 (fourteen years ago)

Sublimation Hour really is it. but Bad Arts is close ...

goddamn your eyes
they just had to be twin prizes waiting for the sun

dmr, Tuesday, 4 January 2011 23:56 (fourteen years ago)

this one's before he started doing the LA LA LA choruses which are oddly responsible for most of my favorite hooks in destroyer songs

its either "english music" or "sea of tears" for me, going with the latter though i think the full title is dumb

ciderpress, Wednesday, 5 January 2011 00:01 (fourteen years ago)

'the bad arts' is p killer

s1ocki the tripster (Lamp), Wednesday, 5 January 2011 00:19 (fourteen years ago)

Why did you spend the 90's cowering?
And they're singing those inspirationals you penned back in '72.
And the hotels of choice are now toasting your voice,
as the spas ring out,
"what's another word for 'sacrament?'"

s1ocki the tripster (Lamp), Wednesday, 5 January 2011 00:21 (fourteen years ago)

Sub Hour

Iago Galdston, Wednesday, 5 January 2011 00:32 (fourteen years ago)

lenonsense (Clay), Wednesday, 5 January 2011 02:20 (fourteen years ago)

"The Sublimation Hour"

Prolly his best album. No wait, Rubies. No wait, this. Aww hell.

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Wednesday, 5 January 2011 06:35 (fourteen years ago)

nonsense, Your Blues is his best album

ciderpress, Wednesday, 5 January 2011 06:37 (fourteen years ago)

^ I agree. I'm excited to hear reports that Kaputt is somewhat in the vein aesthetically as that one.

ARP 2600 vs. Atari 2600 (Ówen P.), Wednesday, 5 January 2011 08:27 (fourteen years ago)

this is really difficult! its between Bad Arts, Virgin and Modern Dance for me. Think I'll go with Bad Arts. I remember first hearing this and thinking it was a bit overproduced lol. I love it now though and its only just behind This Night and Rubies as my fave album.

i love it when a suggest ban comes together (cajunsunday), Wednesday, 5 January 2011 12:05 (fourteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Tuesday, 11 January 2011 00:01 (fourteen years ago)

one year passes...

with all the destroyer talk on ilm these days i realized this is really his best record

BJ O (Lamp), Thursday, 9 February 2012 22:36 (thirteen years ago)

you've got the spirit

Mr. Que, Thursday, 9 February 2012 22:41 (thirteen years ago)

yup...between this and rubies, then your blues and kaputt

Iago Galdston, Friday, 10 February 2012 00:28 (thirteen years ago)

BJ O (Lamp), Friday, 10 February 2012 04:15 (thirteen years ago)

I Can't Give You Any Zing (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 10 February 2012 12:39 (thirteen years ago)

From the title, I thought this thread was going to be about Streethawk (the TV series) slashfic.

White 'Poop' Jesus (snoball), Friday, 10 February 2012 12:42 (thirteen years ago)

I haven't heard this. Got Rubies, Your Blues, and the one before Kaputt after getting Kaputt last year. I take it this is worth chasing down?

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Friday, 10 February 2012 12:51 (thirteen years ago)

Sure is, especially if you like Ziggy Stardust/Hunky Dory-era Bowie

I Can't Give You Any Zing (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 10 February 2012 13:02 (thirteen years ago)

i like Your Blues best, its a much more daring stylistic departure than Kaputt (though more uncomfortable for the listener too probably)

ciderpress, Friday, 10 February 2012 14:24 (thirteen years ago)

was is the movie or the making of fitzcarraldo?

kid steel (cajunsunday), Friday, 10 February 2012 17:43 (thirteen years ago)

'Tread lightly through the fog,' said the apothecary's daughter. 'You don't want to go, but you gotta, into the half-light of dawn.'

Only the RONG Survive (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 11 February 2012 06:33 (thirteen years ago)

stay critical or die iirc

the jazz zinger (s1ocki), Saturday, 11 February 2012 08:38 (thirteen years ago)

Indeed. And it is still "Beggars Might Ride" for me. Love that little speed-bump hiccup vocal kickdrum collabo

Only the RONG Survive (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 11 February 2012 17:55 (thirteen years ago)

Farewell to Evening in Paradise (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 7 January 2023 14:29 (two years ago)

Listening to this album is pure joy

cajunsunday, Saturday, 7 January 2023 15:42 (two years ago)

Funny, I loved this record in high school, but now it's my least favorite of the earlier Destroyer records. And weirdly, the only song that I really remembered much of, listening to it again just now, was "English Music"

Goose Bigelow, Fowl Gigolo (the table is the table), Saturday, 7 January 2023 22:23 (two years ago)

i grew off of this one and then back onto it

ciderpress, Sunday, 8 January 2023 06:27 (two years ago)

Pure joy absolutely. Streethawk 1 got robbed in this poll. One of my favourite album openers of all time. Only complaint is the album is too heavy for me, incredible first 5/6 but then a real drop of energy (though not necessarily quality). Shuffle in some of the high energy “this night” songs to replace the later half and you have one of my favourite albums ever.

Tierce g first 5 seconds of an album

hrep (H.P), Sunday, 8 January 2023 09:00 (two years ago)

*perfect

hrep (H.P), Sunday, 8 January 2023 09:00 (two years ago)

Sublimation Hour kinda towers

great album

I've said it before and I'll say it again: another word for sacrament is "host"

My name is Mike Cyclops. I work for (bernard snowy), Monday, 9 January 2023 17:42 (two years ago)

Stange that, for all the examples of clever wordplay or sweet melody on this record, the part that always stays with me is, "Strike...strike...strike".
I do like almost all of the songs, but I'm also glad his voice changed afterwards.

Halfway there but for you, Monday, 9 January 2023 22:34 (two years ago)
