Best Single From A Batman Soundtrack

I know we've done soundtrack-specific polls but thought the bat-genre deserved more of an overview. I remember seeing Bat-free videos for other songs on the Schumacher soundtracks, but I decided to stick with songs listed as singles on the soundtracks' wikipedia pages.

batdance

those balls look like a butt (San Te), Friday, 7 January 2011 04:26 (fourteen years ago)

I always liked the Batman Forever soundtrack, mostly for those Method Man and Offspring songs (this is secretly my favorite single by them I think - even if it is a cover) but also was way into the SDRE and Flaming Lips songs that ended the album back in the day.

this can only be kiss from a rose. it would be tougher if gotham city remix was included instead of the original. (honorable mention to the riddler.)

I love the Prince soundtrack, but couldn't really vote for anything else than "Kiss from a Rose". Such a classy, timeless ballad, especially considering that before it Seal was (at least to me) known only as a house music vocalist. (Not that I dislike his house tunes, quite the contrary.)

Tuomas, Friday, 7 January 2011 07:28 (fourteen years ago)

the riddlaaaaaaa

Whiney G. Weingarten, Friday, 7 January 2011 07:32 (fourteen years ago)

Anyway, if you like Prince's "The Future", it's well worth tracking down the maxi single, which has remixes of "The Future" and "Electric Chair" by Mark Moore & William Orbit - they're both even better than the original versions.

Tuomas, Friday, 7 January 2011 07:34 (fourteen years ago)

it's THE RIDDLAAAAAAAAA

Whiney G. Weingarten, Friday, 7 January 2011 07:35 (fourteen years ago)

worst song on any soundtrack ever is probably "foolish games"

teledyldonix, Friday, 7 January 2011 07:47 (fourteen years ago)

Would've voted for "Electric Chair" if it was a single, but gonna have to go w/ Seal.

=(^ • ‿‿ • ^)= (corey), Friday, 7 January 2011 07:51 (fourteen years ago)

"Electric Chair" is the B side of the "The Future" single, though it doesn't have the album versions at all, just the remixes.

I like that U2 song! Also, I like that Alanis Morissette song from the Wings of Desire remake from the same era. Both were major irritants at that point, and it confounded me. Puffy's "Kashmir", not so much.

bendy, Friday, 7 January 2011 11:25 (fourteen years ago)

Love the Pumpkins track, so voting for it.

The U2 track is pretty much the only thing they've ever done that doesn't make me want to jump up and down on the stereo until it's smashed up into tiny little bits.

Gonna make like a canadian and pick seal.

O Permaban (NickB), Friday, 7 January 2011 12:42 (fourteen years ago)

Seal is my vote, glad other people are repping for it! One of those incredibly schmaltzy songs that manages to transcend the cheese and become quite epic and moving.

This has reminded me that Hold Me Thrill Me etc is one of the few U2 songs I quite like.

A brownish area with points (chap), Friday, 7 January 2011 13:15 (fourteen years ago)

tbh the main reason I voted "Moaner" is because it's the only song on this list I've played with any regularity in the past 5 years, and I probably listen to it once every other month

Indolence Mission (DJP), Friday, 7 January 2011 14:39 (fourteen years ago)

torn between batdance for maximum batness and seal for getting stuck in my head on the regular

da croupier, Friday, 7 January 2011 15:07 (fourteen years ago)

apparently the song is going to get a lot of play on this season of the bachelor

da croupier, Friday, 7 January 2011 15:08 (fourteen years ago)

"rose," i mean, not "batdance"

da croupier, Friday, 7 January 2011 15:08 (fourteen years ago)

The arrangement for "Kiss From a Rose" is really beautiful; so are the chord changes.

Gus Van Sotosyn (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 7 January 2011 15:09 (fourteen years ago)

"Kiss From a Rose" just ahead of "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me". Both of those are brilliant pop songs.

"Batdance" easily wins the prize for the worst.

You're Twistin' My Melody Man! (Geir Hongro), Friday, 7 January 2011 15:13 (fourteen years ago)

Am I mismembering it as being "like I feel love", like that "King of Snake" was?

Mark G, Friday, 7 January 2011 15:14 (fourteen years ago)

Moaner.

Matt DC, Friday, 7 January 2011 15:15 (fourteen years ago)

It wasn't entirely dissimilar and had a similar feel but was much harder. Also, King of Snake actually *was* the I Feel Love bassline and Moaner wasn't.

Matt DC, Friday, 7 January 2011 15:16 (fourteen years ago)

Batdance was such a bizarre song. I can't believe it was a hit.

The "Batman" soundtrack is the only pre-mid-90s Prince album that I don't own. Don't feel any need to either.....

You're Twistin' My Melody Man! (Geir Hongro), Saturday, 8 January 2011 00:21 (fourteen years ago)

voted 'the future' , bet played the fuck out of 'scandalous' so it always reminds me of autumn 1989 whenever i hear it (last time i heard it: spring 1990), except for 'arms of orion' that whole album's alot of fun if tossed off, maybe it's prince's tattoo you. still weird that he actually recorded 'batdance' (after they rejected '200 balloons' right?), it was released as a single, and it was a huge huge hit, absolutely everywhere that summer along w/ 'on our own'. would love to see todd edwards do something w/ 'the future'. batman forever was a really really good soundtrack, loaded damn near front to back. 'kiss from a rose' will walk away with this and it's the best thing up there by a few miles but i always remember it coming out as the second single from that seal album (was nuts about the first single, 'prayer for the dying', miss that kind of early 90s positive lite r&b-ac), was disappointed when it didn't do nearly as well as i thought it should, very happy to see it become a huge hit on the back of val kilmer and jim carrey.

all that is OTM re: Prince and Seal

ok does anyone here no the seal catalog really well cuz i'm wondering if i just get a seal greatest hits am i gonna be missing anything obv, is there some seal deep cut i need to hear, etc? also apparently he covers 'lips like sugar' on that greatest hits - !!! ?

balls, Saturday, 8 January 2011 02:06 (fourteen years ago)

lol I would buy it just for that because although I haven't heard it, my life is absolutely incomplete without having Seal's take on "Lips Like Sugar"

I only really know his first album, which is back to front amazing and a required purchase for everyone

The Smashing Pumpkins one slays! It also does a fantastic job of bridging the gap between their Mellon Collie and Adore albums. And the b-sides are all different takes (including an instrumental/ambient version) on the original.

This is a hard one because I grew up listening to the tracks from Batman Forever and Batman & Robin. I voted Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me because it's my favorite off of either soundtrack. Batdance, Kiss From A Rose, The Riddler and Foolish Games are awesome as well. It really upset me when I bought Jewel's Pieces of You and the radio edit of Foolish Games wasn't present, or at least it wasn't until it was added as a hidden track on later copies.

Now I'm tempted to dig up whatever Space Jam Soundtrack thread there is.
