It's true. To get technical, it's a division of CC. Take a gander.

I NEVER LIKED HIM ANYWAY, NYEAH.

Michael Daddino, Friday, 23 August 2002 00:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh Jesus fucking Christ. I guess if it's their money that helps put Trouser Press on-line for free, then I've heard of worse uses of ill-gotten goods, but beyond that, eurgh.

TS: Clear Channel vs. The Borg.

At least the Borg had enough manners (or PR savvy) to ask you if you wanted to be assimilated.

Tadeusz Suchodolski (llamasfur), Friday, 23 August 2002 05:30 (twenty-three years ago)

I am totally with Mike on this one, I always found the Trouser Press guides really irritating even though they did have a lot of information in them.

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 23 August 2002 11:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, they are generally pretty r*****t, aren't they? By definition!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 23 August 2002 12:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, I wouldn't use that word. More like chuckleheaded or misguided...

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 23 August 2002 12:50 (twenty-three years ago)

At least the Borg had enough manners (or PR savvy) to ask you if you wanted to be assimilated.
But if you said no, they did it anyways...which means they are actually exactly the same as ClearChannel.

I can't really get too riled at the guide, though, since it did point me to looking at a lot of bands I dearly love, the Chameleons in particular (though arguably that means I should just be giving praise to Jack Rabid...).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 23 August 2002 14:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I seem to recall getting riled at: "England's Swell Maps proved that a group of intelligent, fearless, versatile people can record five LPs and produce little of any lasting value."

Curt (cgould), Friday, 23 August 2002 17:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, that and the Associates reviews were the two ones in particular I'm annoyed at because they ended up putting me off the bands for years, when they should not have done. ;-) The Depeche reviews were also annoying, but since I was already a fan I didn't mind that as much.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 23 August 2002 17:50 (twenty-three years ago)

This thread is more like The Borg: "He may only earn a living in ways that we approve."

Yancey (ystrickler), Friday, 23 August 2002 18:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Part 2 of the interview clarifies Robbin's relationship with Clear Channel:

"I didn't go to work for Clear Channel. A couple of years ago, they acquired a small independent radio company I was working for..."

But HOLY SHIT, look at the first couple lines! This very thread is reffed:

"EO: I just saw a thread on one of the meta-chat sites saying 'Ira Robbins works for Clear Channel now.' The response: 'That's okay, I love him anyway.'"

Depending on how you look at it, this either is a grotesque misquote of "I NEVER LIKED HIM ANYWAY, NYEAH" or a misreading of the thread's general tenor...or...fuck if know what. Bizarre.

Michael Daddino, Friday, 23 August 2002 19:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Write the interviewer and ask him if he was on crack.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 23 August 2002 19:41 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't know if I should be beating this to death, but the interviewer replied here that "...yours is not the thread I was referring to, although it is remarkably similar, if opposite in sentiment." Plausible, you think?

Michael Daddino, Tuesday, 27 August 2002 14:42 (twenty-three years ago)

HMMM. The words 'grain' and 'salt' come to mind.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 14:47 (twenty-three years ago)

More like one of those big pieces of rock salt, I'd say.
