sometimes i still play that clap your hands say yeah album haha

plax (ico), Friday, 14 January 2011 13:24 (fourteen years ago)

Okay maybe this year's list isn't actually the worst because most of these are terrible.

Sway, anyway.

Matt DC, Friday, 14 January 2011 13:27 (fourteen years ago)

this was the worst list of those i cursorily checked from both commerical and uhm actual perspectives

wtf were kubb and marcos hernandez

early 00s ones usually had a few big successes

nakhchivan, Friday, 14 January 2011 13:29 (fourteen years ago)

hahahahahahahaha chris brown

voted corinne b.r. because her album last year is the best thing to have come out of that list

I remember my friends following guillemots career long after it was apparent they were a one hit indie wonder. I think they turned into a jam band.

dayo, Friday, 14 January 2011 13:38 (fourteen years ago)

The band consists of 4 members: Fyfe Dangerfield, MC Lord Magrão, Aristazabal Hawkes, Greig Stewart.

dayo, Friday, 14 January 2011 13:39 (fourteen years ago)

iirc kubb sounded exactly like you'd expect a band called 'kubb' in 2006 to sound.

Antoine Bugleboy (Merdeyeux), Friday, 14 January 2011 13:41 (fourteen years ago)

was going to post a lolplanb youtube / marc loi .jpg but apparently his last album got to number 1? rmde uk public u fuckin reets

"My headspace is one of constant self-flagellation. But it feels all right to be doing Kubb." Harry Collier

nakhchivan, Friday, 14 January 2011 13:43 (fourteen years ago)

I imagine Kubb as sounding like a cross between the Libertines and the Barenaked Ladies, if that helps.

Apparently one of them is now the dude in La Roux.

Kubb were one of those "new Coldplay" attempts (qf Ben's Brother) that went absolutely nowhere. The lead singer was formally in late 90s surf-rock goons Rootjoose.

Marcos Hernandez had one single that charted in the UK and that was his debut, which reached #78.

They're both l0u1s jagg3r but nice bluff.

Matt DC, Friday, 14 January 2011 14:04 (fourteen years ago)

I was about to say this has to be the worst list, both commercially and aesthetically, but 2007 runs it close.

1. Mika
2. The Twang
3. Klaxons
4. Sadie Ama
5. Enter Shikari
6. Air Traffic
7. Cold War Kids
8. Just Jack
9. Ghosts
10. The Rumble Strips

The baby boomers have defined everything once and for all (Dorianlynskey), Friday, 14 January 2011 14:08 (fourteen years ago)

6. Air Traffic
7. Cold War Kids
9. Ghosts
10. The Rumble Strips

Anyone?

Matt DC, Friday, 14 January 2011 14:13 (fourteen years ago)

Cold War Kids and Ghosts ring a bell. Think the later were an indie band with a horn section.

Rejoice that you weren't eaten (chap), Friday, 14 January 2011 14:14 (fourteen years ago)

Also how the hell did Sadie Ama finish that high up a list compiled by the same industry that allowed her to release all of two records?

Matt DC, Friday, 14 January 2011 14:14 (fourteen years ago)

cold war kids vaguely rings a bell as 'indie' but idk any more than that, or even if they were indie

nakhchivan, Friday, 14 January 2011 14:15 (fourteen years ago)

Drawing a blank on Sadie Ama too TBH.

Rejoice that you weren't eaten (chap), Friday, 14 January 2011 14:15 (fourteen years ago)

cold war kids - ungoogled memory - US indie, a bit earnest, pained, competent singer? Some single maybe about a drunk family dad got a lot of play. 6 Music loved them for a little while.

Rejoice that you weren't eaten (chap), Friday, 14 January 2011 14:19 (fourteen years ago)

think the rumble strips had a whimsical music video, that had a bike, maybe pedaled with no hands, someone scruffy on top?

dayo, Friday, 14 January 2011 14:19 (fourteen years ago)

yeah I feel like they were earmarked for the Kings of Leon crowd before KoL managed to wangle a 'pop' audience - they were madd boring anyways

xp re Cold War Kids

cup of tea & an orange.xls (DJ Mencap), Friday, 14 January 2011 14:20 (fourteen years ago)

Sadie Ama is now a jobbing diva on various grime and UK funky records and has probably been involved in more good music than anyone on this list, but it's not hers per se.

The one good song Guillemots did (Trains To Brazil) was VERY good, the rest was completely immemorable. Cold War Kids have an album out this month. Never really liked Sway beyond his guest rhyme on Harvey Nicks and those Charlie Boy sketches.

F Your X is great but I think I prefer Hype Boys, Up Your Speed and the opening track off the first album.

Still think it's not beyond the realms of possibility that he might have a hit with his next record.

In early 2009, it was announced that production of Sway's third studio album, The Signature LP 2, had started. He has revealed that he is working with acts such as Craig David, Neutrino, Jay Sean and Liverpool football player Ryan Babel.

Maybe not.

5. Enter Shikari
6. Air Traffic
7. Cold War Kids

To be fair to Sway, there is a big social difference between Hornsey and Muswell Hill.

The baby boomers have defined everything once and for all (Dorianlynskey), Friday, 14 January 2011 16:07 (fourteen years ago)

Are Enter Shikari still together? Surely they're due to have some atrocious screamo/dubstep hybrid album any day now?

I mean, maybe in terms of outside perception, but unless you're talking about the bit by Turnpike Lane, Hornsey is basically the same as Muswell Hill and Crouch End.

Bernard V. O'Hare (dog latin), Friday, 14 January 2011 16:40 (fourteen years ago)

The bit he's from is basically Wood Green isn't it? It's very different to Muswell Hill on that side of the railway line.

Matt DC, Friday, 14 January 2011 16:41 (fourteen years ago)
