round up, holler girl **** the breeders, title TK **** The Poll

the best kind of fuzz with the right kind of melodies, tk creeps up on you like a windstorm

from the straightforward call-and-response opening to the swing of the stutter in Too Alive, the album capitalizes on surprising hooks, throwing you off just enough to reel you in.

they had never done anything like Off You or The She before, 2 of the stand-out tracks on the record. still, deciding on the best song will take more than one listen to this varied, lush classic.

Good Luck.

This album got stuck in my car CD player in 2002, never to be seen again.
I did burn another copy last year.

― surm, Thursday, January 13, 2011 4:07 AM (Yesterday) Bookmark Suggest Ban Permalink

if I vote Off You then that will get at least 3 votes, and T and T will get none.

This is probably the only Kim Deal-centric album that I'm not overly familiar with. I've heard it, but I definitely don't like it enough to listen to it with any regularity.

Good record. I have never seen that cover. I had a different one. Strange.
I have to go for Off You. Also quite enjoy a bit of Full On Idle. Same song as Amps record.

Amps' version of Full on Idle is waaay better.

"Huffer."

"Too Alive." Amazing off-kilter drums. This album separates people who think they like Kim Deal from people who actually like Kim Deal. One of the best recent examples of an album that's too good for the majority of a band's fans.

Almost went with "Forced to Drive", but ended up going with "Off You". Such a great ALBUM that it's hard to single out a best song.

cwkiii, Saturday, 15 January 2011 20:00 (fourteen years ago)

not that hard at all, I think Off You is going to walk this...

God apparently did not like my 'T&T' vote, but now I have no idea what I'm going to vote for instead...

Off You deserves to win--it's an authentically great tearjerker--, and is definitely Deal twins POV but I really will not vote for it...

right now it's between The She, Too Alive, and Forced to Drive--Put on a Side is underrated as well...

some hills are never seen (Drugs A. Money), Sunday, 16 January 2011 03:52 (fourteen years ago)

I think I voted for Off You on the 2005-2009 tracks poll though

some hills are never seen (Drugs A. Money), Sunday, 16 January 2011 03:53 (fourteen years ago)

do u think i'll do it? or will i too go for something else

i like lucy (surm), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 01:26 (fourteen years ago)

the thing about off you -- don't u think -- is that sits on this very precise point between weird and regular in terms of song structure

at once it hearkens back to some sort of classic melody and totally surprises you

i like lucy (surm), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 01:28 (fourteen years ago)

in full agreement. Thing is, I think Off You will dominate in this poll in a way that's unfair to all of the other songs on this album that are imo deserving of votes...

but yeah Off You is totally awesome...

Well yeah I listened it through again. Great record. I forgot how strong the back end is.

It was a record I listened to a lot when I first moved to London. It reminds me of that time. A horrible little flat that leaked rain from the roof and had carpets that smelt of vomit. They really were fine ol' times though.

Yeah, it is Off You obvs.

MEG_tron (kraudive), Sunday, 30 January 2011 02:41 (fourteen years ago)

is this the most romantic deal record?

i like lucy (surm), Sunday, 30 January 2011 02:49 (fourteen years ago)

maybe...Safari had some romantic stuff on it didn't it?

lol at the witch trials (Drugs A. Money), Sunday, 30 January 2011 02:52 (fourteen years ago)

Listening now to Mountin Battles for about the third ever time. Never ever connected with me. Any opinions?

MEG_tron (kraudive), Sunday, 30 January 2011 02:54 (fourteen years ago)

haven't listened to it in a while, but I like MB a little more than TTK. The album was frontloaded with songs I love--Night of Joy (THAT's the song I nom'd & voted for in the half-decade poll), Overglazed, We're Gonna Rise, German Studies...

I did actually find it a bit tough to get all the way through though :(

lol at the witch trials (Drugs A. Money), Sunday, 30 January 2011 02:57 (fourteen years ago)

Went into MB with high hopes and was utterly disappointed. Left it alone for a while, then went back. No change. Bad production and nothing interesting going on w/the songwriting is how it seems now. No opinion is necessarily forever, but at the moment it's probably even below Last Splash for me.

dlp9001, Sunday, 30 January 2011 03:09 (fourteen years ago)

I think Mountain Battles is a great record! "Regalame Esta Noche" is really the only song on there that stands out as weak to me.

cwkiii, Sunday, 30 January 2011 18:02 (fourteen years ago)

Re: "Off You", I would be strongly tempted to vote for that ONE SYNTH NOTE at :43 in a Best Thing In A Song Ever poll.

cwkiii, Sunday, 30 January 2011 18:06 (fourteen years ago)

that note has like inspired me over hte years
