paying the band, the soundman, the venue...

Clear Channel College Entertainment both disturbs and endlessly captivates me. $100,000 gets you the likes of Korn or Oasis, $40,000 for Kids in The Hall, $15K for the Tragically Hip (must be states only) and a measly $5000 for Vanilla Ice?

Not a real question but coments, questions, concerns are welcomed.

I'm just delighted to know that for the paltry sum of $10K, you can get Squeeze back together.

My stupid college probably paid too much for Ben Folds last year ("call for pricing"), when instead we could have had Badly Drawn Boy (7.5K), Blacklicious (7K), DJ Shadow (10K), and Placebo (5K) for much less. :\

And who does Morrissey think he is asking for 50K/gig?

Here's one of my favorites:

"Huey Lewis Generally Available $100k "

The more I read the more enraged I become:

Leo Kottke $5k
Luna $2.5k

meanwhile, Tenacious D (Jack Black) $30k

dave (Dave225), Friday, 23 August 2002 18:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Snoop $65-75k
The Roots $25-35k

Lottsa it aint right.

Sum 41 for $30 - 35k ????? Hope they can aford a bigger trampoline for that cash.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 23 August 2002 18:13 (twenty-three years ago)

meant to say Snoop for double The Roots is just silly. 1/4 the talent for double the price and three times the headache.

That list is an eye opener. I'm astounded at how much even marginally popular bands can command. The record companies might be ripping them off but it seems they're more than making up for it playing live. Carrot Top for 30K?! Carson Daly for 25K?! What does he do to earn that? He better be juggling flaming bowling bowls while riding a unicycle for that kinda jack.

Sounds about right to me.
