A hype thread for Hot Toddy

Been obsessed with Hot Toddy's Late Night Boogie album the past month or so. Such a perfect way to wrap up nu-disco's autumnal phase. Not every track is flat out amazing but I'd say it's pretty much straight fire through to track 7. And all the vocal tracks are unbeatable. Keep playing this over and over again:

^^^down to love was the immediate highlight on this one for me

i actually first heard hot toddy in an ilxor's mix -- i forget who but someone near the top of the ilxor mix thread included 'mindtrip' which is still my fav hot toddy track

Yeah that was Jeffrey Mac's awesome mix which started the "djs post your mixes for download" thread.

How long before the Paper Recordings revival?

I think I've listened to "Down To Love" about 10 times this week already.

one of the things that always hits me about his stuff -- this is esp evident on 'down to love' & 'mindtrip' -- is that there is this vulnerability in the timbres of the instruments that i am not sure how he does. its like, intimate. the sonics of the record often feel very close, as if you're in the same room as the record's texture. its an amazing effect

yeah, it's very intimate feeling isn't it - especially as compared to say Lindstrom who's all intergalactic grandeur.

changed my mind on this record when i found out it was released by a subsidary of Ohm, which means it will never be released on vinyl. :-/

The only thing I've heard from Hot Toddy is the "I Need Love" song on the Cosmic Balearic Beats Vol.2 disc. Really liked it.

Hard to imagine you not feeling the same way about the album.

But Deej is right, don't sleep on "Mindtrip" either.

three weeks pass...

This is really nice.

They played "Down to Love" at the Old Navy where we were buying kids clothes yesterday, so maybe it's crossing over a bit? Was followed by a Hives-ish garage rock thing I didn't recognize or like, after which I tuned out again.

Did anyone here like Crazy Penis back in the day? "A Nice Hot Bath With..." is just about perfect. I was listening to that a lot back in 2001, back when Gilles Peterson was an insult around here. Didn't seem like the kind of thing that would ever catch on with the Blissblog acolytes and the UK garagists.

I've always had a soft spot for this kind of modern wallpaper-y disco, smooth enough to be half-ignored while reading or working (head nodding along), but strong enough to hold attention on headphones or driving down a typically boring prairie highway. Paper recordings is a perfect name for it.
