Voted Thin Lizzy.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 24 January 2011 14:46 (fourteen years ago)

voted motorhead, but it's an impossible choice. while they're both wonderful exemplars of the best sort of creative monomania, they represent different traditions and serve different needs. i suppose i chose motorhead as an expression of brotherly affection and because they survived long enough to leave a large body of respectable work.

Lemmy and Vega are arguing over which Stooges album is best...

amphetamine enhanced scholar (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 24 January 2011 15:41 (fourteen years ago)

agree it's an impossible choice, don't feel bad about picking suicide tho. I love motorhead and they've got it all over suicide when it comes to discog, but I've spent more quality time with rev/vega. they cut me deep.

I'm curious about how a suicide vs. depeche mode poll would fare.

suicide becoming 2010/2011's steely dan?

amphetamine enhanced scholar (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 24 January 2011 15:51 (fourteen years ago)

Suicide: Brilliant concept, one classic album, a few amazing tracks scattered among the rest of the discography.

Motörhead: Brilliant concept, one universally acknowledged classic album, four or five killer songs on every album.

suicide becoming 2010/2011's steely dan?

I remember getting a weird Becker/Fagen vibe from 2002's American Supreme when I reviewed it for Alternative Press, but I haven't listened to it since.

that's not funny. (unperson), Monday, 24 January 2011 16:18 (fourteen years ago)

Suicide are a seminal band, their first experiments with synthesizers came long before "Synth Punk." Their first album alone places them among the most influential bands of the pre-Punk era. Listeners who have enjoyed Alan Vegas chilling vocal stylings could do a lot worse than checking out some of his solo albums, he made more music after Suicide you know! Personally their debut remains my favourite of theirs, and why wouldn't it? Not many albums boast music as haunting and daring as Cheree and Frankie Teardrop. Opening track Ghost Rider shows why they leave their many imitators in the dust!

"Synth Punk." = Suicide, so no.

Apart from that, yeah.
