Sigur Ros go insane

Actually according to other sources it's:

'( )'

I commented about this on my weblog yesterday.

It's abit like Prince, renaming himself, what become known as: Symbol

I hereby state that the forthcoming Sigur Ros album should be known as: Brackets inside Quotes

DJ Martian (djmartian), Friday, 23 August 2002 19:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Smelling which way the wind ws blowing, Sigur Ros realized that it was going to take something big and meaningless to afford them anything like the press frenzy they'd gotten when their last record came out. After a brief band meeting, a decision was reached: they'd release a self-titled album...only it wouldn't be a self-titled album! Its title would be the very absence of a title. Ingenious!

Hearty congratulations were extended all round. Their press agent, once notified, could hardly contain herself. It was shaping up to be another great year for Roger Waters In Disgui...er, Sigur Ros.

J0hn Darn1elle, Friday, 23 August 2002 19:15 (twenty-three years ago)

That thing looks more like a guy with horns or some sort of animal head. Therefore, devil or goat = GRATE ALBUM.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Friday, 23 August 2002 19:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Roger Waters In Disgui...er, Sigur Ros

Heh. Friend of mine prefers 'Moody Blues' in that equation. To me they're like an angel food cake with way too much frosting. Give me In the Nursery!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 23 August 2002 19:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Theoretically, given my own thoughts on lyrics, I should be happy -- but since I think Sigur Ros really aren't all that, this gives me the giggles.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 23 August 2002 19:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, and Magma to thread, I guess.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 23 August 2002 19:22 (twenty-three years ago)

I like how you presuppose they were sane to begin with. (Didn't you see the deeply disturbing video featuring people with Down's Syndrome dressed up like angels frolicking in a field?)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 23 August 2002 19:38 (twenty-three years ago)

That wasn't Michael Jackson's latest?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 23 August 2002 19:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Despite the rumors, Chris Tucker does not have Down's Syndrome.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 23 August 2002 19:53 (twenty-three years ago)

And yet now the images are burned in my brain.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 23 August 2002 19:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Sugar Walls > In the Dollar Bin

Andy K (Andy K), Friday, 23 August 2002 20:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Mentioning In the Nursery, anywhere, ever=so completely classic :)

Sean's equation however is absolutely OTM for reasons of both personal profit and preference, therefore the new Sigur Ros which I probably won't ever hear is GRATE

J0hn Darn1lle, Friday, 23 August 2002 21:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Roger Waters In Disgui...er, Sigur Ros

Oh, please ... give Mr. Waters a little more credit than that (pompous ass though he can be).

Used to comment that "Sigur Ros" was Icelandic for "Clannad." Apparently I was wrong -- it's Icelandic for "Magma."

Tadeusz Suchodolski (llamasfur), Friday, 23 August 2002 21:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Apparently I was wrong -- it's Icelandic for "Magma."

LIKE I SAID. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 24 August 2002 00:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Tad I am a Barrett loyalist and am therefore prohibited by law from giving Waters credit for anything at all.

J0hn Darn1elle, Saturday, 24 August 2002 01:34 (twenty-three years ago)

We're all Gilmour fans around here. Aren't we?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 24 August 2002 02:12 (twenty-three years ago)

I think it's a good idea to have no song titles. I can't ever remember titles anymore.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 24 August 2002 06:12 (twenty-three years ago)

which is the one who likes to drive fast cars? that's the one i'm a fan of

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 24 August 2002 09:59 (twenty-three years ago)

You know, I have this sneaking suspicious that indie boynerds HATE Sigur Ros with a particular hatred because they are so damned PRETTY. Play guitars like Mogwai! Have cheekbones like Westlife! Can life get any better?

So they're barking mad? Fantastic! Even better! Clearly they all adore me and have competitions to see who gets to paint my toesnails. This is all that is important to me, really.

I'm glad they've dispensed with song titles, though. Cause all that Icelandic was unpronouncable anyway, and I never remember song titles anyway, I tend to call songs things like "Side 1, song 3" anyway.

Mmmmmm, Sigur Ros. I think their keyboardist has won the "paint Kate's toenails" competition tonight.

kate, Saturday, 24 August 2002 10:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Clearly they all adore me and have competitions to see who gets to paint my toesnails.

Jonsi would only adore you if you had a sex change operation.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Saturday, 24 August 2002 10:16 (twenty-three years ago)

I've never seen a picture of Sigur Ros. In fact I like not to know what most bands look like, it's not as if I go to gigs so it doesn't bother me.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 24 August 2002 10:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, keep your dirty realities out of my nice fantasies, Mel! ;-)

They adore me. Clearly. I mean, they're trying SO HARD to get my attention that they MUST!

kate, Saturday, 24 August 2002 11:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Jonsi would only adore you if you had a sex change operation.

my ex-girlfriend and i spent a day in their studio w/ them (for a story - she was my 'photographer') and they were all v. nice, esp. jonsi, whom she thought might have had a little crush on me.

all this griping abt. no song titles is much ado abt nothing - like any of us could properly pronounce agaetis byrjun ANYWAY you pedantic...

mark p (Mark P), Saturday, 24 August 2002 11:45 (twenty-three years ago)

This is the first ILx thread that has made me want to listen to Lindsey Buckingham.

Andy K (Andy K), Saturday, 24 August 2002 11:52 (twenty-three years ago)

mean.

mark p (Mark P), Saturday, 24 August 2002 11:53 (twenty-three years ago)

For such small bodies their surprisingly good football players.

I couldnt care for song titles anyways, its not like I could pronounce Svenf G Englar in the first place and even that song I didn't bother instead reffering to it as:
Itchy Woooooooooooooooooooo song.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Saturday, 24 August 2002 12:57 (twenty-three years ago)

two years pass...
are the hlemmur and von brigdi albums any good?

dh, Tuesday, 17 May 2005 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

yes

Aerodynamic (Aerodynamic), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 19:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Probably the weakest stuff they've done. But I love everything else.

PB, Tuesday, 17 May 2005 19:47 (twenty-one years ago)

two years pass...

NPR guy tries to interview Sigur Ros without realizing what they were like in interviews. Hilarity, as they say, ensues.

Elvis Telecom, Friday, 12 October 2007 19:15 (eighteen years ago)

already a thread on ILE, check I am soooo uncomfortable -- NPR and Sigur Ros bring you the WORST INTERVIEW EVER!

Mark Clemente, Friday, 12 October 2007 19:24 (eighteen years ago)

but yea it's pretty tortuous

Mark Clemente, Friday, 12 October 2007 19:24 (eighteen years ago)

Àgaetís Byrjun [Fat Cat, 2001]
Once there was a sensitive, conceited young fellow named Jonsi Birgisson who lived on a permafrost island surrounded by a cold, dark sea. Jonsi was a well-meaning person who loved music, and he yearned to put more warmth in the world even though he wasn't exactly sure what warmth was. Not just "throwing an electric blanket on the corpse of electronica," that he knew. Jonsi longed to blaze "inspired new avenues in sonic landscapes," to deliver "shamelessly tear-stained epics" in "the falsetto cadence of angels," to turn "4AD-styled, sepia-toned instrumental passages" into "awe-inspiring new-religious mantras." Stuff like that. He did all this and more on a thematically linked work where some of the sonic landscapes were entrancing (although not warm). Because he was conceited, sometimes he would announce that these soundscapes were destined to change musical history, and then sometimes mean people would make fun of him. But he always had the perfect retort. "You have to admit I'm smarter than Enya," he would say. And about that he was certainly right. B
