Quality of vision vs. tenacity with respect thereto/palpable intensity thereof

J0hn Darn1elle, Saturday, 24 August 2002 18:55 (twenty-three years ago)

For "quality" sc. "nature" not "excellence" or analogues. Also: Lord of the subgenre or Overlord of the Metagenre? Visibility or Invisibility? All-drenching opacity vs. godlike transparency? -Godlike not "praiseworthy" necessarily so much as "similar to how deities are imagined to function."

[pls. let's avoid the sexy-death-icon model favored by Sonic Youth et al]

one-on-one, hand-to-hand combat- i'd take
brian. he's a bit older but he's fierce.
he's powerful. like a bulldog. he'd gouge
his eyes out.

BW, because wanting to kill your dad is cooler than wanting to fuck your sister if you don't actually do either

Dave Q to the rescue. I would say more, John, if I knew much more about Richard Carpenter other than that he seems to make Skip Stephenson look and act like Sean Connery.

It IS a good question, damned if I can answer it. I'm not sure, not having heard anything written by Richard Carpenter since the early 70s, about the vision thing. Tenacity? Wilson scores big points.

You know, they say Pet Sounds influenced Sgt. Pepper's...

So it must be Brian Wilson....

Sorry, I don't have anything to contribute either. Dave Q's answer is spot on, the clever bastard.

Can't decipher the question, but Carpenter has not inspired as many crappy songwriters to hide their tuneless indie pop behind fancy arrangements so he wins.
