voted Chocolate Factory but i need to hear more of the 90s albums

gut instinct says it's 12 play vs. tp2.com but yeah not heard enough of these in full

not heard enough of them either - most of his albums need editing. but i voted for 12 play.

12 Play is truly the most awkwardly sequeled album in pop history. he recently scrapped 12 Play: 4th Quarter in favor of working on The Return of 12 Play: Night of the Living Dead, and I swear I am not making any of that up.

He mentioned that in the interview with Will Oldham, saying that it would be something like an R&B Thriller album. Could/should be great!

I know a lot of people are "over" his novelty metaphor tracks, but the preponderance of them on Tp3 and Double Up make those albums more entertaining on the whole than the earlier ones

Chocolate Factory has a good balance of novelty and craft -- like, i wish any of the sex metaphor songs on TP3 were half as good as the original "Ignition"

If Chocolate Factory was winnowed down by a third I'd probably vote for it

Folks who can't cotton to his humor should probably check out his 1995 album, it's pretty laff free. I know Christgau approved of its relative maturity.

there was a point around the late 90s/early 2000s when the idea of the internet still had enough novelty that people would just throw "dot com" at the end of titles willy nilly

lol I love 12 Play - "sex me" and "seems like you're ready" are two of my fave r. songs definitely - there is some stuff on it that hasn't aged well but it's still an 7.5-8/10 album imo. I pretty much love R. Kelly's entire discography

yea "Sex Me" and "Seems Like You're Ready" are great, also love "For You".

the hip-hoppy tracks are the ones taht didn't age well for me, cuz they're dated, tho "The Crotch On You" is delightfully ribald

xp "For You" is one of my favorites from him, I love it because it's the kind of song you wouldn't think he's capable of doing, something really emotional and beautiful on an album full of "I Like the Panties on You" and "Sex Me"; I guess that's really R.'s whole M.O.

my group of friends have a "trapped in the closet" night once every 6 months or so, it never seems to get old. what surprises me is how many times its been parodied and how far short the parodies fall; you'd think it would be ripe for that, but the original just tops everything

y'know what, I think this is a problem with literally every single album he's done until maybe Love Letter (which is still about an hour!) So many tunes I like on the Factory and then suddenly I remember, you have to sit through that awful Ja Rule track

kind of disappointed w/ 12 Play once i finally heard it, so much of his terrible Chubb Rock-sounding rapper voice
