lex pretend, Thursday, 10 February 2011 18:12 (fourteen years ago)

Hey, due to the EOY poll I've heard at least three of these! (Ok, I've heard the Katy Perry and Rihanna IRL as well) I'm assuming none of the ones I don't know are better than Whip My Hair.

Pisle of dogs (seandalai), Thursday, 10 February 2011 18:32 (fourteen years ago)

1. whip my hair
2. we r who we r
3. mine
4. bottoms up
5. no hands
6. only girl in the world
7. like a G6
8. raise your glass
9. yeah 3X
10. firework

the first two are classics, next three are somewhere close, the five after that are songs that i'll listen to on the radio w/ a flip to the other stations at 15 second intervals in hopes of catching something else

J0rdan S., Thursday, 10 February 2011 19:23 (fourteen years ago)

"No Hands" is close to classic? fuck outta here

R. L. Steen's HOOSbumps (some dude), Thursday, 10 February 2011 19:34 (fourteen years ago)

alright maybe not

J0rdan S., Thursday, 10 February 2011 19:35 (fourteen years ago)

jeez i guess i'll vote for one of my least fav songs on the waka album. pop music: step yr pop game up

pajamagram sam (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 10 February 2011 19:41 (fourteen years ago)

I f/w these to varying extents (yeah, really ashamed about liking the Posner joint, but w/e). Voted for my mans.

banjee trillness (The Reverend), Thursday, 10 February 2011 20:07 (fourteen years ago)

Feel like "Stereo Love" is real underrated on this board.

banjee trillness (The Reverend), Thursday, 10 February 2011 20:11 (fourteen years ago)

what the hell is edward maya and vika jigulina

R. L. Steen's HOOSbumps (some dude), Thursday, 10 February 2011 20:18 (fourteen years ago)

when my local top 40 station picked up on "No Hands" fairly recently they play this weird version of it where the beat's pretty much the same but the tempo of the drums is doubled to sound much more clubby on the verses and it actually makes me enjoy the song way more than i do otherwise

R. L. Steen's HOOSbumps (some dude), Thursday, 10 February 2011 20:20 (fourteen years ago)

i've easily heard "no hands" on the radio more than any other song this year

J0rdan S., Thursday, 10 February 2011 20:21 (fourteen years ago)

what the hell is edward maya and vika jigulina

banjee trillness (The Reverend), Thursday, 10 February 2011 20:23 (fourteen years ago)

Wale being on one of the 2 or 3 biggest rap songs of the past 6 months feels like some kind of clerical error

R. L. Steen's HOOSbumps (some dude), Thursday, 10 February 2011 20:25 (fourteen years ago)

wait, what's the other one

J0rdan S., Thursday, 10 February 2011 20:26 (fourteen years ago)

i was thinking about making this a poll but, in retrospect, which is funnier: colby o donnis being on gaga's debut single, or gaga being on wale's debut single

J0rdan S., Thursday, 10 February 2011 20:27 (fourteen years ago)

Apparently, they are Romanian. I had assumed Latin American.

banjee trillness (The Reverend), Thursday, 10 February 2011 20:27 (fourteen years ago)

J0rdan, reread Al's post.

banjee trillness (The Reverend), Thursday, 10 February 2011 20:28 (fourteen years ago)

Gaga/Wale, definitely.

banjee trillness (The Reverend), Thursday, 10 February 2011 20:28 (fourteen years ago)

whoops

J0rdan S., Thursday, 10 February 2011 20:30 (fourteen years ago)

other song arguably bigger than "No Hands" that i had in mind was "Black & Yellow"

R. L. Steen's HOOSbumps (some dude), Thursday, 10 February 2011 20:35 (fourteen years ago)

or i guess i misread your misreading of my post haha

R. L. Steen's HOOSbumps (some dude), Thursday, 10 February 2011 20:36 (fourteen years ago)

lol

J0rdan S., Thursday, 10 February 2011 20:36 (fourteen years ago)

what do folx have against Colby O'Donnis?

(also Willow ftw)

kkvbgz (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 10 February 2011 20:46 (fourteen years ago)

Nothing against Colby, he's just a really random dude to be on the first single of a major star.

banjee trillness (The Reverend), Thursday, 10 February 2011 20:53 (fourteen years ago)

yeah it's a quaint vestige of the brief period when Gaga was just this new person Akon was pushing on the pubilc

R. L. Steen's HOOSbumps (some dude), Thursday, 10 February 2011 20:56 (fourteen years ago)

i wonder how much money akon made off her

J0rdan S., Thursday, 10 February 2011 20:56 (fourteen years ago)

oh I see

I liked this song a lot in '08; even voted for it in the EOY poll, but no one else seemed to give a shit...

i think Gaga has a lot of blood diamonds to answer for

R. L. Steen's HOOSbumps (some dude), Thursday, 10 February 2011 21:17 (fourteen years ago)

"what you got" is not bad but colby o'donis is maybe the most interchangeable performer ever

1) whip my hair
2) stereo love
3) bottoms up
4) like a g6
5) only girl

Who did Taylor Swift piss off to show up so late in the running order?

voting Ke$ha btw.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 16 February 2011 00:03 (fourteen years ago)

1. bottoms up (nicki minaj nearly ruins it but the mmts hook was the most fun thing to sing all year)
2. only girl in the world (in retrospect this is probably the best rihanna single out last year. some p egregious foghorn action in the bridge but the chorus is really stunning & the production is civilized & tasteful which is increasingly rare these days & sort of reminds me of cant get you out of my head)
3. no hands (symbolically or historically significant, the passing of the torch from futuristic swag to brick squad gun porn. kind of a miraculous moment of perfect synergy)
4. like a g6 (feel like surrendering to this song was the most nihilistic moment of my life as a fan of rap music)
5. whip your hair (this got old quick but placing it top 5 in reverence to the night i showed it to these two girls i was studying with a lot last semester and they just couldn't believe it & were laughing hysterically)
6. stereo love (i had assumed this was some quebecois hit bc of the melodica loop but good to know it isn't & other ppl get to enjoy it)
7. raise your glass (thought this shit sucked so much at first i think i actually laughed i was kind of disgusted w/ myself when it started to grow on me)
8. mine

pretty much like all of these a lot. some of the rest i haven't heard much or don't rec by name & can't be bothered to youtube. only heard yeah 3x for the first time on snl & i could see it becoming a jam

flopson, Wednesday, 16 February 2011 00:37 (fourteen years ago)

nicki minaj nearly ruins it

banjee trillness (The Reverend), Wednesday, 16 February 2011 00:57 (fourteen years ago)

Who did Taylor Swift piss off to show up so late in the running order?

the entire first 7 tracks all hit #1, so a little old #3 hit like "Mine" has to sneak in the back

some dude, Wednesday, 16 February 2011 01:02 (fourteen years ago)

flopson obviously otm, lol at young money stanning

kl0p's son (k3vin k.), Wednesday, 16 February 2011 04:30 (fourteen years ago)

i'm not big on Nicki at all but i think "Bottoms Up" is pretty much her best verse and really livens up what would otherwise be a pretty bland song

some dude, Wednesday, 16 February 2011 04:45 (fourteen years ago)

1. like a g6
2. we r who we r
3. mine
4. hey baby (drop it to the floor)

started to doubt myself after everyone jumping on my nuts over my comment abt that garbage nm verse but i listened to it this morning & happy to report h8 is 100% intact. i wish she would just stick to her meaner evil flow more of the time, 95% of the jokes and switchups not only fall flat but kind of deflate the song. will admit that say hi to mary and joseph/now bottoms up and double my dosage is a cool way to end a verse though

flopson, Wednesday, 16 February 2011 20:44 (fourteen years ago)

How clever.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 16 February 2011 22:24 (fourteen years ago)

tellysavalas (some dude), Thursday, 17 February 2011 01:17 (fourteen years ago)

Waka sounds barely half awake on that song to the point where even fucking Whale makes more of an impression than him.

banjee trillness (The Reverend), Thursday, 17 February 2011 01:24 (fourteen years ago)

erm

wale's verse is awful on that. waka's is pretty good
