Wanted to slap a teengaer who didn't know Are You That Somebody (lilsoulbrother), Friday, 11 February 2011 02:33 (fourteen years ago)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0AsPIGkPtKM

not to mention "you're makin' me high," "un-break my heart," "i don't want to," etc. Toni had a great career, sad she's kind of forgotten now

The Brainwasher, Friday, 11 February 2011 02:36 (fourteen years ago)

It's not mentioned much, but I love Aretha's A Rose is Still a Rose: some of the best Dupri and Puff Daddy productions from that period, with songwriting and vocals to match.

Rich Lolwry (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 11 February 2011 02:39 (fourteen years ago)

I'm going to check that one out, I'm only familiar with the title track (which is great!)

The Brainwasher, Friday, 11 February 2011 02:41 (fourteen years ago)

xxp I will have to listen to Secrets and A Rose Is Still A Rose via grooveshark.

Daniel, Esq., Friday, 11 February 2011 02:56 (fourteen years ago)

do rnb headz really not rate 'no more drama' at all?

cant really think of anything else to mentione except mb the ryan leslie s/t & 'fear of flying'

Lamp, Friday, 11 February 2011 03:02 (fourteen years ago)

R&B heads are very weird when it comes to Mary J. I think No More Drama was her first stab of doing shiny 21st century hip hop soul. The songs were a little bit happier and not morose. It isn't the abomination (what R&B fans think, not me) Love & Life has been made out to be.

I think that if Mary J. died early like other 90s r&b/hip hop stars she would be more lauded than she is now.

Rich Lolwry (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 11 February 2011 03:32 (fourteen years ago)

Welcome back to the Billboard 200, self-titled Keith Sweat album from the year 1996.

No, really. It has re-entered the chart at 180.

One of the songs must have been on a show not called Glee, right?

Wrong-Way Willy (Andy K), Friday, 11 February 2011 20:46 (fourteen years ago)

"Try Again" was a hit like a year and a half before the album was released, and first appeared on a soundtrack with lots of Aaliyah/Timbaland on it, so it's very distinctly of a different project and era, almost as much as "Are You That Somebody"

really enjoying this. only personal favourites that weren't mentioned were Destiny's Child: Destiny Fulfilled and Shareefa: Point of No Return (not sure if they'd crack my top ten, but too sweet to go unmentioned anyhow)

But curious to the person who had the Cheri Dennis on your list: Could you say what about it does it for you? (Not being critical, hoping my own enjoyment of it will be enhanced by hearing why you love it)

jo_in_montreal, Sunday, 13 February 2011 01:35 (fourteen years ago)

yeah that Shareefa album was dope, shame her career never popped off

DINPLINGS! (some dude), Sunday, 13 February 2011 01:37 (fourteen years ago)
