Thomas Pollby - Golden Age of Wireless

I was kind of shocked to find out that "Windpower" was my most played song ever according to iTunes. I didn't even think it was the most played on the album. Thinking about that got me to listen to the 2009 reissue again; stellar release, tons of classic tunes, honestly I think you could make an argument for almost any of these songs to be the best. I was kind of wondering what ILX thinks. I had to include a couple of the bonus tracks (some of which appeared on the original US release) as I'm sure a few people will vote "One of Our Submarines"

xp yeah but we now live in a post-remaster world

ok that's a lousy excuse for overlooking the other one but the more threads about this album the better

one of my favorite albums of all timez...it snared me on u.s. release due to, of course, the overplayed single/video. i loved that track so in 1984 or whatever, but after settling in with the album for a good 25 years now, "Science" is my least favorite, with a bullet (though it might win this poll).

on a positive note, difficult to choose between Leipzig and Cloudburst but am voting for the latter....such a fantastic, beautiful track.

i noticed you left off Urges, which was on the original UK release along with Leipzig...but not a big deal. fun track, but imo doesn't have the staying power of many of the others.

Airwaves, Science, Submarines all great too.

agree w/ science being the weakest track, it feels tacked on and goes against the mood of the album

top 3: europa, airwaves, submarines

I left off all the demo stuff on the 2009 version, forgot about "Urges", I like the track a lot but I can't see it being anyone's favorite.

BTW the remaster has an excellent "guitar version" of "Radio Silence" that rules, no idea if that was another one that was on the original but it's pretty cool

I still have the 1983 US issue, for some reason I haven't found the remaster yet. I voted Weightless because I like the songwriting but I also love One of Our Submarines and Cloudburst at Shingle Street. I have Urges on the Retrospectacle hits compilation and I didn't enjoy it as much as the rest of the material to come out of the Wireless era.

I voted Cloudburst. Not the best song from beginning to end, but the way the synths completely soar during the choruses (especially the last one) gets me every time.

Not sure why but I've always struggled with this record.

I voted Cloudburst. Not the best song from beginning to end, but the way the synths completely soar during the choruses (especially the last one) gets me every time.

I could never vote it my favorite but it is an amazing song. "There's gonna be a cloudburst here" is a great moment. I voted "Windpower"; such a menacing tune although I always thought the subject was fairly harmless. "Windpower...there is no enemy"...so why so dark? But everything about the song is incredible. A+ songwriting; it should have been a hit.

Anyone heard the new EPs? I wish he'd hurry up and release the full-length already...I have some pretty high hopes for the new album. It really seems like he's doing it for all the right reasons.
