My friend John W. just sent me this:

"An experiment in which mice died after being given amphetamines and exposed
to loud dance music has been criticised by the Home Office.

"The experiments, led by Dr Jenny Morton, involved 238 mice, some of whom
were given the drugs and then exposed to music from the dance group The
Prodigy at high volume.

"Seven died, and some others were left brain damaged. Some others who were
exposed to the classical composer Bach instead also died."

"Seven died" and "some others..." (out of 238?) seems to indicate that just possibly a majority of the mice are now speed-freaks and Prodigy fans.

group C was fed marmite at high volume while being subjected to the merzbox

The remaining mice now wander around the laboratory going "Rohpenol! See how shocking and subversive I am? Fear me, and how I unravel your morals into shreds! Grrrr!"

The six mice who took it upon themselves to get ahold of two very small turntables and a very limited edition .025" pressing of "Breathe" have announced that they're now signed to Touch and will release their epoch-making "Breathe (Amphetamine Mousemix '02)" sometime this autumn. First 100 copies on mouse-white vinyl, if my contacts are to be believed.

What's next? Feeding them mary-jane brownies and making them listen to the Grateful Dead? Feeding them martinis and making them listen to Dean Martin?

No mice have died from Pot useage EVAH!
They just want to twirl or sit down and avoid the brown pellets.

"mouse white vinyl," eh?

M Matos (M Matos), Monday, 26 August 2002 15:24 (twenty-three years ago)

It's one of the funniest completely crap scientific studies I've ever seen, reported in an utterly useless way. I've seen elsewhere that 4 of the mice exposed to Bach died. What this teaches us is probably that of a large group of mice given loads of amphetamines, some will die. Hoorah for science.

"Further studies involving throwing live mice in a mosh pit during a 'hard rock' performance by the band 'Bad Religion' have resulted in all mice dying. This data leads us to conclude that torturing mice is rad."

Nate Patrin, Monday, 26 August 2002 17:10 (twenty-three years ago)

My line on it was "but the music they used was the Prodigy, so the study's already five years out of date."

I'm not under any delusions that this is funny.

Mice. Speed Freaks. Prodigy Fans.
Isn't this redundant? Aren't all three of these the same thing?
