Two of my very favorite albums came out in 98:

Duster - Stratosphere
12 Rods - Split Personalities

I also really like:

Calexico - Black Light

Can't think of any others yet but wanted to share those.

Evan, Friday, 18 February 2011 05:45 (fourteen years ago)

Fuck I bet that JSBX alb is good.. I'm way better at '98 singles.

billstevejim, Friday, 18 February 2011 05:46 (fourteen years ago)

Oh shit I forgot

BOREDOMS - SUPER ROOTS 7!!!

plax (ico ico) (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 18 February 2011 05:47 (fourteen years ago)

I'm weirdly averse to the music of the 90s in general, but some I was listening to at the time (though maybe not all as albums) that I still like are:

Elivs Crespo - Suavamente
Victor Manuelle - Ironias
Celia Cruz - Mi Vida Es Cantar
Eddie Palmieri - El Rumbero del Piano

I can't think of any others, though I should probably remind myself of what that Alanis Morisette album I only heard for the first time last year sounded like. I'm also tempted to include the Lauryn Hill, but it's been years since I've listened to it, and I'm not sure how much I like it.

I've looked up about 5 things for this thread and they were all from 1997 (3 of them) or 1999 (2 of them)

so Stevie D probably otm with 1997 being better (though there are plenty of good things listed here already)

Actually srsly I've looked up at least 10 more things since my last post and they were 2/3 1997 and 1/3 1999 too. Anyone feel like a 1997 POX thread?

So, so far my list is:
Don Caballero - What Burns Never Returns
Quickspace - Precious Falling
Boards of Canada - Music Has The Right To Children
maybe Pele - Teaching The History Of Teaching Geography too, I was a teenage math-rock bore
Cornelius - Fantasma if it counts (Japanese release 1997, Matador release 1998)

Tortoise - 'TNT'

Hadn't fully appreciated the massive emotional connection I have with this record until seeing them live for the first time at Primavera last year. Reminds me of some of the best times and my best buds. Underrated.

Kruder & Dorfmeister - The K & D Sessions

Oh, I totally forgot about this! K&D Sessions was probably the album that me and my friends listened to the most in 1998... But I lost my copy at some point, and I haven't heard it in years. I wonder if it has aged well? Downtempo/digidub/blunted beats definitely was the soundtrack of the late 90s for me, alongside electro and Wu-Tang.

Tuomas, Sunday, 20 February 2011 12:34 (fourteen years ago)

The Notwist - Shrink

Ah, this totally should have been on my list! I didn't pick this up until it was several months old but it must be among my most listened-to albums of the next year.

Shrink had the misfortune of being issued on the Zero Hour label, which crapped out shortly after this release. Seems like it fell below the radar and stayed there despite all of the attention that Neon Golden attracted a few years later.
