I mean nothing, not a single, not a best of, not even a couple of downloaded tracks...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 26 August 2002 12:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Warloghe - album out of print, no MP3s to be found...

Siegbran Hetteson (eofor), Monday, 26 August 2002 12:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Earthling. I bought a copy of the album (Radar) for a friend I'm no longer speaking to, thinking I'd be able to get another one. No such luck, in the seven years since.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 26 August 2002 13:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Not counting bands that have released any albums yet despite trying for 4 years, Dusty Springfield, though shes not a band. Otherwise Im pretty deadly to myself in a record store.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Monday, 26 August 2002 13:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Front 242, Cyndi Lauper, Jandek, DRI, Stereolab

Lord Custos Alpha (Lord Custos Alpha), Monday, 26 August 2002 13:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Creedence Clearwater Revival - I used to have three of the albums until I sold off my record collection, and I've been meaning to at least pick up "Chronicle" on cd but haven't yet. So right now, all the CCR I can listen to is just pulled from memory.

Earthling is GREAT! I would say Kool Keith but then my boyfriend has way too many (?!?) Kool Keith records.

Zolar X

Arthur (Arthur), Monday, 26 August 2002 14:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Heh. I heart Arthur's answer. :-)

Trying to think of a band I've seen and really loved that I own nothing by... *crickets*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 26 August 2002 14:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Siegbran Hetteson (eofor), Monday, 26 August 2002 15:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Roky Ericson(sp)... i have a few 13thFE mp3s but that's it.

Aaron A., Monday, 26 August 2002 16:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Warlords of Pez.

arguably the Pez are best experienced live, but still.

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 26 August 2002 16:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I own everything. Including you.

Jody Beth Rosen, Monday, 26 August 2002 16:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually, I've never gotten around to buying a Lightning Bolt record, although I've seen several of their shows.

Jody Beth Rosen, Monday, 26 August 2002 16:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Just about all of them.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 26 August 2002 16:20 (twenty-three years ago)

13th floor elevators, high rise, harry pussy, etc.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 26 August 2002 16:24 (twenty-three years ago)

my general answer would have to be the playlists of any commercial oldies station in the US. It's impossible to overstate what I've learned from growing up with this stuff, and yet I've never gotten around to getting a recording of Del Shannon's "The Wanderer." (best song EVAH? prove me wrong.)

My Cheri Amour, Windy, Red Rubber Ball, Dawn, Lighting Srikes. I...I'm choking up here...the magnificence...

'course I did buy a Gary Puckett lp.

gcannon, Monday, 26 August 2002 16:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh god: right now my answer to this is something like "90% of bands I like."

nabisco (nabisco), Monday, 26 August 2002 16:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Eddie Cochran.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 26 August 2002 18:15 (twenty-three years ago)

I never know if I should really treat "band" as "band" in this sort of question, but since others are listing individuals, I will too. (Just because everyone else is jumping off a cliff, would you do that too?, asks a misfiring super-ego.)

I have no Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross and the Supremes, Anita Baker. I suspect there have to be a lot of salsa bands who will become favorites, but at this point I don't know for sure who the favorites are among the ones I don't own anything by. Steel Pulse, Mighty Diamonds.

In the out-of-print and obscure category: I have no Mars Everywhere or Sensations Fix (a favorite based on the thin evidence of one track).

Oddly I can't think of that many artists who I know for sure I like a lot, but who I own nothing by. Odd because my collection isn't really all that big, and it's full of a lot of stuff I tried on a whim and didn't particularly like, but am not yet ready to sell or give away. My taste is somewhat narrow in its own way, or is that not news to anyone?

DeRayMi, Monday, 26 August 2002 18:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Carl Perkins. Every time I do my radio show, I take out the Sun Box and adore it lovingly, play some Carl Perkins, regret my inability to save money for purchases over $5 and put it away again.

Dave M. (rotten03), Monday, 12 May 2003 04:01 (twenty-three years ago)

I have no Velvet Underground records right now.
I had (almost) everything on tape, and those cassettes are now in my parents' garage. I've always had a hard time replacing albums I've already owned in any format, even if I don't have them anymore.
Mostly cuz I'm not sure if I want my teenager-taste to be proven wrong by my adult standards YET AGAIN.

HoraceMann, Monday, 12 May 2003 05:10 (twenty-three years ago)

The Beatles for me too. but thats gonna change soon, i promise ;-)

dUANE (lucylurex), Monday, 12 May 2003 14:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Definitely the Dismemberment Plan --- I only saw them live once, but I remember most of the songs and most of their lyrics. 'Tis a very good sign, but I just never bothered to find any. Also, their recorda aren't carried locally.

I don't think I've ever even HEARD a Wishbone Ash song, but I just figured out a couple weeks ago that, if I heard them, I'd probably love them. Maybe not, though. Any recommendations on where to start?
