They do that whole retro new wave electro indie pop thing much better than Ladytron. I wish I could write something insightful about them for you, but I'm terrible at description. Anyway, what do you think of this lot?

their last album was fantastic, their deadpan style(reminiscent of ladytron) doesn't disqualify them from being somewhat emotional(might halp that one is ex-emo and still is seen with emos). dntel gets all this praise and his record is mostly crap, why he doesn't receive more or the most attention for figurine is odd. does having ben gibbard on your record really afford you all this attention? the first figurine record is fun too but the second is so precise and perfect, i haven't heard the remix record yet i wonder if it will be an improvement? the split lp from david and james is also excellent, totally glitch pop and a bit more out there than anything figurine has done so far. i still love ladytron though. this post reads like a list.

Figurine are great but they occasionally get a little to minimalist musically which doesn't really seem to suit the songs they write.

i have the yellow cd on blackbean & placenta. i like it, and yes they are better than ladytron and stuff, but i can't help feel the same thing as with cexs new direction or baxendale. why not really go for it, leave the indie crowd behind? because while they are better than ladytron, they are not as good as ian van dahl or alice deejay

did you see what i did there? (who wants to be first to accuse me of anti-rockism? who wants to accuse me of self-conscious ironic posturing? who wants to tell me i'm trying to impress ilx? bring it on fuckkkas!)

I see them as shifting toward the sound of Monika/Morr hence the live track recorded in Berlin.

I have a remix CD which is enjoyable but tells me more about the remixers...or wait, am I thinking of Fingernail?

two years pass...
How much should I ebay this Figurine CDr for? It has David's remix of "Our Song" (which appeared only on a compilation and one 7 inch), the original "Our Song" from the Motorway release and a David Figurine song "Our Pure Efficiency". There's a note (apparently from David" in the packaging with notes about the March records comp one of the tracks appeared on.

Lately I've got a serious thing for "IMpossible."

i don't think figurine stuff is terribly collectible, but then i haven't tried to sell any for a while now..

Body: Spread the news around LJ and then sell it on ebay starting at $60. Spreading the news around LJ is essential for to score the big bux.

i dunno, i found the few songs i heard a bit boring. actually, i think its the vocals that i cant stand. the vocals are too earnest/indiepop sounding which goes much better with guitars/drums than blips/bloops.

but i really like the figurine remix of barcelona's "studio hair gel"

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 13 January 2005 07:43 (twenty-one years ago)

well, that earnest/indiepop thing was what was so hilarious and great about them back in thee golden oldie days.

i mean... the song about the ufo on their full length... can that be anything but many tongues in many cheeks? barcelona, wow, how quickly a band falls off the old radar.

i agree, the vocals can be a bit grating at times but it doesn't take away from the great production on some songs. There's a remix to "You" that I have on cassette (I know) but I dont know who done it or what album it's on but it is GOD!

well i think barcelona fell off the radar because they broke up. they were playing their farewell show and i missed it because of diahrea. phooey
