Starter question: What are some of your favourite ways to get people dancing? Do you have any good sequencing tricks, e.g. playing somethign particular at the beginning or end of your set, or particular styles of music dropped at a certain point in your set?

I am teaching myself. I can mix but I haven't played out yet tho. I am going to ~watch and learn~ itt.

I am teaching myself. Technics went up before I could get turntables. kind of tempted just to keep buying records cds tapes whatever, rip everything to wav, get a sweet dac and use ableton. is this rong.

my dream would be to own a good sounding pa system i could take with me for smallish places but i know nothing about speakers/pas and, oh yeah, no money.

i've been "wanting to teach myself" for about oh seven years now. all that equipment/actually buying records is expensive!

I am teaching myself with free software!

banjee trillness (The Reverend), Thursday, 24 February 2011 00:07 (fourteen years ago)

edgar allen EPO (haitch), Thursday, 24 February 2011 00:47 (fourteen years ago)

i keep on looking at the ableton + launchpad bundle on juno - cheap for what you get, shame i haven't really got the cash atm.

starting a recorded mix with a track and finishing with a remix of the track: classic / dud?

edgar allen EPO (haitch), Thursday, 24 February 2011 01:05 (fourteen years ago)

there're no roolz dood

NI, Thursday, 24 February 2011 01:37 (fourteen years ago)

i say go for it but try and snazz it up a bit, make tk 1 real clean or reverby and then add fx to the final track so its all scuzzy and faster or something

NI, Thursday, 24 February 2011 01:38 (fourteen years ago)

I am currently dreading the thought of having to leave my set up/records at home should I move overseas for school (unless I can be strategic and get new turntables there and sell my current ones which have some tonearm funniness).

one year passes...

people i wanted to smack the most tonight:

3) my co-dj, who doesn't understand the concepts of beatmatching, keeping a tempo, or playing to the floor. every time i passed off to him, i had girls asking me to go back on w/in 10 minutes. but i had to abide by him cause it was mostly his gear

2) the dude who asked me if he could play mac miller off his phone. fuck off. no.

1) the hostess, who kept trying to scratch and fucking with the crossfader in the middle of me djing and at one point REACHED DOWN AND TURNED OFF MY FUCKING POWER SUPPLY FOR NO REASON

on the plus side, it was a fun party and i think i may have scored a wedding gig

The Reverend, Saturday, 24 March 2012 10:29 (thirteen years ago)

i wanna party to a The Reverend dj set

art dealin' thru the west coast (tpp), Saturday, 24 March 2012 10:36 (thirteen years ago)

i mostly ended up playing a bunch of 808-y mainstream rap cause that's what the girls wanted to hear

The Reverend, Saturday, 24 March 2012 10:39 (thirteen years ago)

what does it mean when they say "let the tracks breath?"

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Monday, 26 March 2012 01:37 (thirteen years ago)

presumably playing more of each song instead of quickly moving from one song to another

The Reverend, Monday, 26 March 2012 02:38 (thirteen years ago)

four months pass...

I have been DJing at the record store I'm working at. At one point today, we had seven people in, eight if you count the other employee. Whoooo!

Blind, Pregnant, Gay, Royal (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 5 August 2012 09:38 (thirteen years ago)
