The Damned-Grave Disorder: Classic or Dud?

Captain Sensible devotes a song each to slagging Michael Jackson, John Lennon, and George W Bush. The best tune, "song.com," is ruined by the same trite preoccupation with being "current" via an internet reference that ruined Prince's "My Computer". Absinthe is kinda smoothe but wears after a few listens. Some cool guitar solos.

Anyone else check it out when it dropped last year?

Good Lord -- allusions to Prince and heinous hip-hop lingo ("...when it dropped...") in a thread devoted to the Damned. Who'd have thunk it?!

The last studio album of then-"new" material I bought from the Damned was ANYTHING back in, what, 1987? Not very encouraged by those results (save their cover of "Alone Again Or"), I believe I resigned myself to making do simply with their back catalog. While I admire their tenacity, I can't imagine a Damned album of new studio material to be anything to really get excited about.

That said, anyone who slags Michael Jackson and George W.Bush gets my full support.

Haven't heard it, much as I love them. I have fears the hopes would not live up to the reality.

nine years pass...

Spun this for the first time in ages, I think it's a great Damned album with a few weak tracks towards the end which makes it lose momentum.

Anyone expecting another "Machine Gun Ettiquette" is silly but for top notch psych-punk, this really satisfies.

The follow up, "So Who's Paranoid" is even better.

Still haven't heard this but I'll probably be seeing 'em on Halloween -- for the first time in twenty years!

Some Fest called Fun Fun Fun in Austin in November has Slayer, Danzig playing Misfits, and Damned top billed on one stage. That's a cool lineup.

I think "So Who's Paranoid" is one of their best...

Yeah, after I posted I realized there's been NO discussion about "So Who's Paranoid" on ILM! I then went and spun it again, it's full of gems with maybe 2 weak tracks (and the epic "Dark Asteroid" isn't one of them, what a short 14 minute track!). Dave's still got the pipes and the whole album shows off all aspects of their style, from punk to psych to garage rock to orchestral pop. I hope we don't have to wait another 7 years for more!
