I have been listening to nothing but nu-power pop and why are the billy childish guitars/raspberries songs/eric carman lead vocals and byrds harmonies so addictive?

There must be thousands was of course by The Quads, not the Bears. For some readon there was a picture of a Bear on the label though.

1) Starship - Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now (this is where it all began, the power ballad/indie power pop crossover should be investigated in greater depth)
2) Masters of the Hemisphere - I am not a Freemdoom (vastly superior to Protest, a concept album that loses the plot several times, but still very enjoyable)
3) All About Chad - S/T (I think) (anyway they had great songs like "My Sister Hates The Band, and 23 Strikes Your Out, with lyrics like "majored in masturbation, phd in procrastination, my hands are tired and I'm all out of inspiration")
4) Holiday Flyer/ Clifornia Oranges/ The Sinking Ships (Less frantic and more mellow than some mentioned here, but still they seem to be forming an empire in reflective pop)
5) Galactic Heroes - How About San Francisco (Masterpiece of songs about friends)

Okay, I tried to provide a list with description (sorry it's kinda lame)

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 06:56 (twenty-three years ago)

And the Yatchs trck is called Suffice to Say - it starts with 'sending and SOS to your heart or something' though

sandy blair, Tuesday, 27 August 2002 06:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Marshall Crenshaw, "Cynical Girl"
Ivy, "Get Out of the City"
The Cardigans, "Carnival"

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 08:07 (twenty-three years ago)

The Nazz "Open My Eyes" -- maybe not usually thought of as powerpop being on the Nuggets collection and having that great psychedelic flanging on the vocals, but this song rocks and fits the bill for me.

The Plimsouls "A Million Miles Away" -- I first heard this song when I was a kid in while watching movie "Valley Girl". I searched the Plimsouls album out just to find this song. It sounds like summer to me.

Cheap Trick "Surrender" -- A cool song I have heard thousands of times but it still sounds pretty good to me. It seemed like alot of punk bands would cover this one, esp. after that Big Drill Car 7", which was pretty good as far as I can remember.

PowerPop band of all time (always open to debate, of course):

Green.

the Elaine MacKenzie album (1988) is packed with classic Power Pop tracks (PPT), although their ballads are even better than the PPT...

Dave M. (rotten03), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 13:12 (twenty-three years ago)

I will not, I can not, I must resist the urge to say the "S" word.

I heart Teenage Fanclub almost as much but never felt the urge to pay the almost import prices for most of there cds. I havent heard a song I didnt like by them though.

matt riedl (veal), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 14:47 (twenty-three years ago)

'Time for Action' - Secret Affair

Nice! That song is permanently followed in my mind by "Shot by both Sides" by Magazine because the first time I heard both songs was on WNUR on this one DJ's show. It was the type of show that was so consistently good that you could just tape it at random and it would turn out better than 96% of mix tapes.

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 27 August 2002 14:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Nice! That song is permanently followed in my mind by "Shot by both Sides

Spookily enough, the b side of the Buzzcocks track I mention is "lipstick" - the song on which Shot is based.
