scott seward, Wednesday, 2 March 2011 21:07 (fourteen years ago)

didn't see one all-purpose corsano thread. he deserves one, don't you think?

scott seward, Wednesday, 2 March 2011 21:08 (fourteen years ago)

Andy Crespo is a brilliant bassist. One of the best I've ever heard. This is gonna be a good show.

Tarfumes The Escape Goat, Wednesday, 2 March 2011 21:41 (fourteen years ago)

think this was the general purpose corsano thread but w/e now we have two!

Chris Corsano - Blood Pressure CDR

I love priest but I've chosen maiden (Edward III), Wednesday, 2 March 2011 21:44 (fourteen years ago)

andy is awesome. he is one of my record pals. he always has amazing stuff.

scott seward, Wednesday, 2 March 2011 21:46 (fourteen years ago)

oh sorry, i didn't look inside that thread. should have checked to see if discussion went beyond that particular cdr.

scott seward, Wednesday, 2 March 2011 21:47 (fourteen years ago)

some artists just get stuck in time on ilm, like poor kurt vile will always be on gulcher

saw corsano and mcphee play a duo set in glasgow four or five years ago, course it was great. mcphee is a slightly more varied/sophisticated player than, say, paul flaherty, so there was some degree of melodic etc variety - but he could blaze too, when corsano let rip

never seen corsano be less than fucking amazing whatever the context

this was so cool. this happened right after we moved here. a great "welcome to western mass!" moment:

well that was very enjoyable. those guys were great together. jeremy sounded great. they all sounded good. andy is a madman. and joe and chris are just too cool for school.

nice to meet you, Tarfumes! that was fun. who knew i was already a fan of yours? it is a small world indeed.

scott seward, Thursday, 3 March 2011 04:10 (fourteen years ago)

xp - okay now i'm curious who tarfumes is irl

Chris Corsano owned my friend a few years ago when he was touring Aus, she tried to give him a tape of her band and he was like 'sorry I don't have any room in my luggage'.

Nice to meet you, too! It was a wonderful show all around; everyone sounded incredible. Corsano brought out some bowing shit I'd never heard, Andy yet again redefined electric bass, and Jeremy was killer, best playing I've ever heard from him. Joe, of course, was his usual brilliant self.

Tarfumes The Escape Goat, Thursday, 3 March 2011 05:26 (fourteen years ago)

Corsano is one of the nicest dudes I have ever met. Totally sincere and humble, find it hard to believe he would have been dismissive or rude or anything. To be honest, when you are touring all the time, I could see it being a little bit of a hassle if you are trying to travel light and people are trying to give you vinyl and tapes and CDRs all the time. Dude plays A LOT and is on the move all the time.

grandavis, Thursday, 3 March 2011 22:23 (fourteen years ago)

Corsano backed Jandek when he played NYC; Matt Hecker and Loren Connors were part of the band, too. I thought those three should have just done a trio set without Jandek. That would have been better.

I have a few of his albums with Paul Flaherty. They're pretty ferocious.

that's not funny. (unperson), Thursday, 3 March 2011 23:12 (fourteen years ago)

xpost, so you don't find it hard to believe? anyway I totally didn't think he was an arsehole or anything for saying it!! The dude is obviosuly amazing.

yuoowemeone, Thursday, 3 March 2011 23:24 (fourteen years ago)

first time i saw corsano play was w dream aktion unit (t. moore, j. o'rourke on gtrs, flaherty on sax), didn't know anything abt this kid on drums who looked abt 14 yrs old, and i was just blown away by the power/stamina/ ferocity the group unleashed, all of it built round the drummer who was just booting the other three up the arse for 45 minutes, still one of my fave perfs

Ward Fowler, Thursday, 3 March 2011 23:37 (fourteen years ago)

So jealous about you seeing Dream Aktion Unit.

Badmotorfinger Debate Club (MFB), Friday, 4 March 2011 06:34 (fourteen years ago)

yeah the Aktion Unit boot of a set from one of those Wisonsin fest things is one of my favorite cops of the 00's

bear, bear, bear, Friday, 4 March 2011 06:47 (fourteen years ago)

uh, 'Wisconsin'

oh the wonder that is the internet. thanks to speedy ted lee for taping and uploading. i will never take his diligence for granted as he documents years of sound around here.

four years pass...

I've waited about 14 months for Otoroku to send me the Evan Parker / John Edwards / Chris Corsano LP I ordered and it was on my doorstep waiting for me when I got in today. And its bloody excellent and worth waiting for. "The Hurrah" - it's wild! Recommended. Looks good too.

kraudive, Wednesday, 14 October 2015 15:37 (nine years ago)

Live and recorded at Cafe Oto in Dalston I was allowed to pay a few more pounds on my ticket price for an unknown Corsano featured LP recorded at his residency nights. This is it and much better (i humbly think) than the night I attended, of which shall no more.
