finally: the zap mama thread!!!

i haven't thought about them in years but just now, listening to the self-titled debut again, it all comes flooding back. it's perfect music for me right now, every song just completely on point.

i'm trying to put my finger on why this music is so satisfying. part of it is just that they're all so audibly having so much FUN.

I saw them twice, they were (are they still around?) a pretty amazing live act. I own the debut and the followup, but yeah I haven't played them in years. Time for a revisit.

I think only one original member is left, founder Marie Daulne. She moved to NYC at some point and the last cd I heard had her trying to go in a more conventional r'n'b route.

zap mama were great

i do love the first album and some tracks from following albums, think the best of album relies heavily on the first showing that was the one

marie daulne has been on roots, erykah badu, michael franti etc stuff, not sure abt solo stuff

sally nyolo, cameroonian singer who ws trying to update bikutsi also came out of zap mama

not sure abt the rest of the group

So good! I saw them on tour for that album, they were fantastic.
