Commenting on a person at the coffeeshop silently singing along with coffeeshop soundtrack: C/D?

Magnetic Fields "You Must Be Out of Your Mind" just came on. Woman at nearby table starts silently mouthing along with chorus. I just pointed at her and said "I see you singing along with this great song!" Now I suddenly feel this might have been horribly rude. Was it?

"Silently singing along with coffeeshop soundtrack: C/D" also fair game for discussion here.

It was my favourite song on the last album. Pounce immediately.

I like it when someone points out that I have good musical taste.

In my case it's so rare though...

how did she react

I don't think I ever silently mouth — either I sing or I don't. mostly don't, because, y'know, self-conscious. who's gonna sing in public, just walking around? I feel like people shoot me dirty looks just for whistling (and let the record show that I am an excellent whistler with impeccable taste)

how did she react

warmly, as far as I could tell, agreed that it was a great song and then returned to her powerpoint presentation

okay, just making sure that "I suddenly feel this might have been horribly rude" wasn't code for "she shot me a glare, stood up, and quickly left the coffeeshop"

pounce immediately

silently sing along at a coffee shops is rly just polite society's way of saying "pounce me immediately"

flopson, Sunday, 6 March 2011 18:18 (fourteen years ago)

just to make it clear, no pouncing was implied, singer and I are both thirty-somethings w/ wedding rings on

Guayaquil (eephus!), Sunday, 6 March 2011 18:23 (fourteen years ago)

but i mean the c/d question should apply more generally

Guayaquil (eephus!), Sunday, 6 March 2011 18:23 (fourteen years ago)

pounce immediately or do not pounce immediately

flopson, Sunday, 6 March 2011 18:26 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i was gonna say it's p.funny that everyone immediately assumed eephus was interested in/attracted to this woman

(which could maybe be precisely *why* it's seems sort of awkward/potentially rude?)

v. true, I would have done the same to a man and not wondered/cared whether it was rude, tbh

Guayaquil (eephus!), Sunday, 6 March 2011 19:13 (fourteen years ago)

pounce and then tell her the magnetic fields are overrated

it's so cool man because it's so hardcore (CaptainLorax), Monday, 7 March 2011 00:35 (fourteen years ago)

Would have been a lot more rude if they had been playing some Celine Dion or something and you had commented on how horrible it was to sing along with such crap.
