i voted for "safe in my garden" because it's beautiful, and the mamas and the papas are like the least-hip group represented here, so yay underdog.

Malibu people really know how to live

the whole incest thing really adds another layer of sleaze to papa's already decadent sounding post-hit making catalog

Voted Spirit "Topanga Windows" - terrific song, underrated band. Second choice would have been something from the Mama & Papas axis.

I'm only halfway through with part one, but every song on it becomes my new favorite. Really love the Spirit song. It's close though between mama cass and jack nitzche. The nitzche song has crazy tempo changes, is beautifully arranged, and is like a total blueprint for the high llamas.

after listening to the whole thing, it's so difficult. i'm not gonna vote for songs i already knew, but if i did, it'd be a toss up between dennis wilson, steely dan or Neil Young "Revolution Blues". for songs i didn't know, i voted flo & eddie (lol gucci mane sample) followed closely by jack nitzsche

missed this poll. would have given Guy Clark's LA Freeway its second vote.

If I can just get off of this LA freeway
without getting killed or caught
I'd be off to some land
I ain't bought bought bought.

that's not my post, Sunday, 13 March 2011 03:26 (fifteen years ago)
