New album streaming on http://soundcloud.com/_type/sets/rene-hell-the-terminal/http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PItwT9Hf10I/TXmfiGGNFkI/AAAAAAAAApI/vpD0j0iwHB4/s400/333.jpg
If you buy the ltd lp you get a bonus free cd of unreleased material with it. (just arrived today in my mail) http://boomkat.com/vinyl/389447-rene-hell-the-terminal-symphony-limited-vinyl-edition He did that with the Porcelain Opera album too. (which I bought when it came out and always meant to start a thread about.) I have a couple of tapes too. Worth checking out if you try the usual places.
If you like Oneohtrix Point Never and that kinda thing get in there.

Cool guy, met him briefly at On Land 2 last September, excellent set as well. Nice to see him get more attention!
― Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 16 March 2011 20:19 (fourteen years ago)
Digging this, need some vinyl. So broke :(Saw him supporting Wet Hair, it was fun.
― Trip Maker, Wednesday, 16 March 2011 20:28 (fourteen years ago)
Had not heard either album in full before today and I must say I dig the new one more, on first listen at least. Need to own both.
― scott pgwp (pgwp), Wednesday, 16 March 2011 22:46 (fourteen years ago)
I'm just now checking this out. Looked at the guy's bio, it turns out that I know one of his collaborators! Small world.

― the pussy/butthole addendum (jamescobo), Thursday, 17 March 2011 00:25 (fourteen years ago)
the other week someone posted me the 'Baroque Arcade' cassette by this dude and it was really great wonky analogue ambient blah - I bought 'Porcelain Opera' some time previous and it was OK but nowhere near this good - he'd posted me it by mistake though and I had to send it back but yeah if you find this tape check it out, or as it's long gone I think you can be excused for DLing it

Rene Hell is one of the best acts around these days. Love most of his stuff. The new one is so good that it might actually be better than Porcelain Opera. I think it is! Thanks for making this much needed thread
― van smack, Thursday, 17 March 2011 01:38 (fourteen years ago)
I also like a couple of his Secret Abuse LPs as well. He has a pretty massive catalog so far -- under different monikers, etc
― van smack, Thursday, 17 March 2011 01:39 (fourteen years ago)

― van smack, Thursday, 17 March 2011 01:40 (fourteen years ago)
I just got a Marble Sky cd in the mail, but haven't listened to it yet.
I think I streamed the new one last night at least 5 times in a row.

― Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 17 March 2011 10:07 (fourteen years ago)
even though i've got a painful headache at the moment, i'm definitely enjoying this on first listen. it's unpredictable and i like that.

I really can't stop listening to the Terminal Symphony. This guy's compositional sense is astonishing; each piece feels tight and intuitively "right" even when there's little tethering it to types of music where you'd more typically use those terms. It sounds delicious cranked up earsplittingly loud on vinyl... I really need to track down Porcelain Opera as well.
― Clarke B., Tuesday, 24 May 2011 13:18 (fourteen years ago)
^^ Terminal Symphony is ace

Ned did a really nice AMG review of it btw; maybe he can link it?

Cool... What are some other releases on this label I should look into?
― Clarke B., Tuesday, 24 May 2011 13:40 (fourteen years ago)

Thomas Köner - Nunatak / Teimo / Permafrost (available as vinyl separately, or as a 3 CD package)
It's not on Type, but you need to track down La Barca too.
― mh, Tuesday, 24 May 2011 14:17 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah Type is trademark of quality for sure -- label boss John Twells is also reliably hilarious; worth following on Twitter at @johnxela (Xela being his own project which obviously also records for the label).
― Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 24 May 2011 14:19 (fourteen years ago)
Thanks for the recommendations, guys. I'll grab a few of these next time I'm at Other or Academy; I know I've seen a few of them there recently. Hey, Ned; long time!
― Clarke B., Tuesday, 24 May 2011 14:26 (fourteen years ago)
Hi there!
― Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 24 May 2011 14:27 (fourteen years ago)
We should have a Type Records thread - would add Zelienople and Rameses III to ilxor's list, but they're not really much like Rene Hell (or each other)
― immer wieder, ralf & günther (NickB), Tuesday, 24 May 2011 14:30 (fourteen years ago)
Does anyone know if Jeff's label Agents of Chaos has a website or mailing list?
― van smack, Friday, 27 May 2011 20:35 (fourteen years ago)
Ned, anyone else who knows Type inside and out: which of These are really good? Big Type sale on Boomkat and I need to slim down my shopping cart :)

Jefre cantu-ledesma - Love is a streamBlack to comm - alphabet 1968
these are both quite good, Alphabet 1968 moreso than Love Is A Stream. I've heard good things about that Indignant Senility record too.
