hello, my name is derek and i've been reading posts here for the past few days and have decided to jump in and test the waters. it's great to finally find a place where people are as crazy about music as i am.

does anyone hear listen to the BBC's 6music station at all? i know this sounds like an advert, but it's a GREAT station if you are a serious rock fan, over the age of 30 i might add.

As a man of 43 who loves music, I'm not fucking going near any channel aimed at over 30s. I want channels that want nothing to do with people my age, that are happy when people my age proclaim everything they play to be worthless rubbish. I don't object to old music, but this sounds like Q for the ears. It sounds like a channel that is convinced that REM are better than Basement Jaxx, that Oasis are serious quality musicians and Sugababes are toss for children.

Sorry, Derek! I just get annoyed at encouraging people to stop being interested in new music because they have hit 30, and stations of this very general sort are a part of that conservatism. This may well be a good station, and I'm sure you didn't bring it up with any of these thoughts in your head. I sometimes have a hard time getting across to people that I don't just like the Rolling Stones and the Who and James Brown, wonderful as all those are. Didn't mean to sound as if I was attacking you, as that wasn't my intention. Also, I remember being brand new here a mere six months or less ago, and the odd apparently angry comment can be a bit disturbing, so I apologise.
