Song ID HELP!

1/ Vocal house track. Deep, buzzy bassline. The vocal is kinda understated. I think its a male voice though it's hard to tell. As far as I can make out the lyrics are; "Cos' if you're sensitive to the timing of the touch, that doesnt mean I wont kiss you every day\You are the first to ever make me feel this way". The chorus goes "If I fall in love it will be forever"

2/Breakbeat-y track. "Neighborhood" type bass sound. Be-be-dop scat vocal at the start of the track. The vocal is kinda jazzy. The only lyrics I could make out were "Of the many facts making the list of life, truth takes the lead, begin to relax, knowin' the gist of life, it's (?) you need"

Well, the second one seems to be using part of Jon Hendricks' "Four", anyhow.

another song ID question:

a friend's wife is trying to identify a song from a 20-year-old mixtape. i've not heard it, but i'm told it sounds kind of like mink deville (although she says it sounds more like billy joel). anyway, the lyric i've been given is, "country man is on the case/cleaning up the big disgrace." also there are background singers repeatedly singing "your honor." on the tape case the was just ID'd as "Your Honor," with no artist given, but it's entirely possible that's not the real name.

i have searched all of the likely sources and come up empty. ideas?

tipsy mothra, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 20:14 (eighteen years ago)

I think it is We Will Rock You by Queen.

Okay, the song I'm thinking of was some kind of club hit circa late 1996 early 1997. I heard it in gay clubs. It had a driving dance beat and this electronic piano line over it and that sort of quickly went up toward a certain note and one note above that and then down one note. It was an instrumental. Please help because this is going to drive me out of my mind. I believe it was high on the charts as well, but I can't be sure.

ok, it's probably an 80's song, sounds somewhat like Dream Syndicate (it might be somehow connected to them), only with depressed singer, and a sense of desperation in the song and the chorus goes something like "you don't need anything" or "you don'y feel anything"..
i can vaguely recall the words "sensation" and/or "celebration" in the lyrics as well.

sounds like a Garage Rock song, something like The Monks but dirtier and guitar-heavier, a funny songs about incest ( starts like "i made love to my mother and our son was married to my sister" etc.. or something like that) with a lyric that goes "we made 24 children!".
anyone?!

sounds groovy, no clue what it is - the synth at the end is sort of 3+3 Isleys?

niels, Wednesday, 30 September 2015 11:13 (ten years ago)

Mmm any track in particular? Maybe I can find it by looking through sample database

✖✖✖ (Moka), Wednesday, 30 September 2015 18:18 (ten years ago)

In case you wondered: it's a freaking remix of a song by Donald Byrd. I'm very disappointed by the lack of knowledge or rather the lack of empathy to ID'ing song requests on ILM:

I'm usually of no help with these requests, but I always follow the threads because I like mysteries.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 1 October 2015 06:09 (ten years ago)

Yeah I normally can't ID anything either haha, I was expecting someone on ILM to know Donald Byrd. I suppose some do but they didn't check my request. I'm so happy I finally found it.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 1 October 2015 06:11 (ten years ago)

how'd you find it? it's the same year as 3+3 but apart from that no isleys connection

jazz song, samba or bossa. woman vocalist. style is lounge, not belted -- conversational singing in a Rosemary Clooney sort of mode. I had it as "pretty people" in my head for decades, but it's not that -- it's "[something] people." the lyric talks about cool people who have cocktail parties but "they sleep back to back" in the second chorus and by the third "they're getting a divorce," but these lyrics have not helped me find this tune. I have the rhythm of the entire song in my head, and the melody, but I'm otherwise coming up blank. I suspect the recording was 60s or 70s, I used to hear it on the radio in the early aughts -- a local morning show dj played a few jazz songs during his show along with local news, features, etc -- he also played a fair bit of Blossom Dearie, Dave Frishberg, et al, if that helps the lounge style feel clearer.
