i like watching videos of old MTV/MTV2/extinct good music show stuff from the late 80s-90s on youtube of really cool bands that were around before franz ferdinand and co ruined everything and you should post some more that you like because i got one of those cables that go from your computer to your tv.

and television does not deliver like it used to.

Franz Ferdinand >>>> most pop that dominated the 90s and early 80s. The early 80s, however, now that's something wholly different!

(Now that looked meaningless, but it should have said late 80s in the first half)

Even though Franz Ferdinand are great, it would be great if MTV would actually play Franz Ferdinand etc though, and not just soap operas and "Jackass".

Wow. Aphex Twin's speaking voice is jarring.

it seems a bit weird that there are now NO music video channels, at least none that I can find on my shitty cable system (directtv).

That Beck interview is great. I wish more subjects would answer a question by throwing a shoe across the room.

Can anybody find that performance of Snoop doing "murda was the case that they gave me" he did right after he was acquitted for murder? I think he rolls up in a wheel chair or something.

obv. depends on where your taste lies but I def think it was when TRL was pulled. That show was really the last visible grasp at what allowed the network to still retain their name. It's a bummer, but I won't go any further than what youtube comments are fond of pounding your head in with (89upvotes).

Guys I just typed a huge story about hearing Kurt Loder's name on my voicemail a lot from a library robot voice but damn if it was not the boringest tale told. Spared.

'97 VMAs were the beginning of the end. Martha Stewart and Busta Rhymes presenting an award and Spice Girls performing to a pretty bad arrangement of Say You'll Be There.

billstevejim, Sunday, 20 March 2011 21:32 (fifteen years ago)

What's wrong with Matt Pinfield? I protest! I don't care what MTV does, I just think they should do more than show teenage ass all of the time.

It's an ordinary English accent... how did you expect him to sound?

Vast Halo, Sunday, 20 March 2011 21:58 (fifteen years ago)

I don't really get how there is zero demand for an all day music channel that doesn't suck.

'97 VMAs were the beginning of the end.

"The Beautiful People" was cool.

Pretty mind-boggling to me as well. You hear in all those "modern culture" reports that kids don't rely on the radio to get their music, but their friends. But where do their friends get their music? Friends of friends? Ultimately, where is the ~source~ of all taste? It's like Twilight is the only thing I can think of that actually goes out of it's way to bring new music to the masses, and I don't even know how that happened.
