A thread for those who want to discuss new BM but dont want to start a new thread on every "minor" album.

This is my fave BM release of 2011 so far. I think I recommended it to Glenn but I cant remember what he thought of it

― There's nothing left alive but a pair of ashy thighs (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 20 March 2011 06:01 (fourteen years ago)
When this board is deleted please can we keep this thread so we can discuss stuff that does kinda get lost on the rolling thread?
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Sunday, 20 March 2011 18:47 (fourteen years ago)
seriously?
― kl0p's son (k3vin k.), Sunday, 20 March 2011 18:51 (fourteen years ago)
what does it matter to you
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Sunday, 20 March 2011 18:52 (fourteen years ago)
dude there are 6 posts on the thread! two of them concern the thread title! you can probably start a new version of it that will be the same from memory!
― five gone cats from Boston (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Sunday, 20 March 2011 18:53 (fourteen years ago)
rolling metal moves fast with promo talk and by the time the rest of us hear something the chat is lost. its a bugger to search too. smaller genre specific rolling threads would strike a balance between the big thread and a sub-board
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Sunday, 20 March 2011 18:55 (fourteen years ago)
xp obv
smithy it would be no hassle for jjj to move it over. saves me from starting a new thread on each one plus if people have posted on threads shouldn't the threads be allowed to stay? I'd hope that since the unwanted board will likely be deleted you might at least post on the sub-genre rolling threads as a bit of a compromise
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Sunday, 20 March 2011 18:58 (fourteen years ago)
oooh it seems Fen have a split CD album with De Arma just come out this week

i like fen, and i really like bm logos like that, that look kinda messily runic or celtic.
on that note, ever hear of cirrhus? vocalist from Bone Awl

― Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 02:55 (fourteen years ago)
they have a new 7" out and it kicks ass
― ☠ (roxymuzak), Monday, 21 March 2011 03:00 (fourteen years ago)
oh i think i have a 7" somewhere too. they have so much stuff tho.
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 03:04 (fourteen years ago)
i meant cirrhus
― ☠ (roxymuzak), Monday, 21 March 2011 03:05 (fourteen years ago)
ahh right. Is it different to bone awl?
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 03:05 (fourteen years ago)
I haven't heard much new black metal this year, but I'm enjoyingSilva Nigra's The New Age For The New God. I like this one betterthan an older one I heard by them. They are pretty much steeped inan old Darkthrone approach, but with some of the new Watain-like intensityand a near-black/thrash approach in places.
I'm listening to the new Raspberry Bulbs (Bone Awl side project). It's just something I happened to stumble upon. Not sure how it comparesto the mother band. It's a pretty literal, ultra-raw blend of black and punk. It's interesting, but I'm not sure if it's anything that's going to stick with me.Kinda reminds me of stuff Ildjarn did in his early days, but not as good.
― serenchwilen, Monday, 21 March 2011 03:30 (fourteen years ago)
I've been meaning to give that new Fen a listen, and I probably should go back and listen to Bone Awl proper. Can't quite remember what they are like.
― serenchwilen, Monday, 21 March 2011 03:33 (fourteen years ago)
pretty much a mix of Punk n BM!
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 03:34 (fourteen years ago)
and yeah give Fen a listen, one of the best things I've heard this year so far. I keep recommending it to Glenn but he hasn't responded so I think that must mean he already heard it and hates it as usual hahaha
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 03:36 (fourteen years ago)
And there's a new Negative Plane out that I haven't seen anyone mention on the boards here. For me, it's not living up to the heaps of praise I've read in reviews, but it's growing on me.Maybe a couple more listens and I'll start to really get it.
― serenchwilen, Monday, 21 March 2011 03:48 (fourteen years ago)
will seek out Fen next...
― serenchwilen, Monday, 21 March 2011 03:50 (fourteen years ago)
i still have a long way to go to get up to speed with BM. theres still lots of old stuff ive never heard but will be trying to keep up with stuff in here
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 03:53 (fourteen years ago)
What else is in the atmospheric BM style? (apart from burzum, wittr obv)
And hopefully nate will come in here with news of a dispirit release. I need to hear more of them!
Roxy do you have their tape? Its john gossard from Weakling.
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 05:38 (fourteen years ago)
recently got Watain's Sworn to the Dark here, and i honestly can't believe how much i dig these guys' essential aesthetic impetus. like, wow!
meanwhile: still waiting on the new Burzum.

Oh btw Roxy what do you think of new Burzum? Agree it's better than Belus?
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 14:44 (fourteen years ago)
i actually loved belus and havent listened to this one enough yet to really draw a comparison, but i do really like it on first couple listens and think its p unique
― ☠ (roxymuzak), Monday, 21 March 2011 14:50 (fourteen years ago)
I'm digging that Deafheaven that someone posted on RM 2011.
Agree with all on the Fen. They are great at atmosphere.
Negative Plane hasn't hit me yet, but I've only listened a couple of times. Think you need to steep in their sound for awhile before it sinks in.
Anyone heard the Ash Eaters demo yet? Brown Jenkins guy doing something new. That might be cool.
― Brooker T Buckingham, Monday, 21 March 2011 15:20 (fourteen years ago)
I think this thread is a great idea, btw. Didn't seem like there was a whole lot of interest in BM on the RM thread.
haven't heard it yet but cosmo's review really made me want to listen asap, obv i got the free download
― ☠ (roxymuzak), Monday, 21 March 2011 15:23 (fourteen years ago)

i want that fen/de arma split really bad
― ☠ (roxymuzak), Monday, 21 March 2011 15:27 (fourteen years ago)
i want both but cant find a UK distro and the £ is really shit against the euro just now
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 15:35 (fourteen years ago)
so can anyone recommend me some more atmospheric BM like fen? that's the stuff i've been in the mood for rather than raw stuff
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 15:36 (fourteen years ago)
oh dude! dark ambient/ambient black metal/black ambient thread for recommendations and discussion^thread got me into what are now some of my favorite bands
― ☠ (roxymuzak), Monday, 21 March 2011 15:38 (fourteen years ago)
particularly Dark Ages, but i'm not sure if that's BM enough for what you're looking forreally great stuff from the guy that does Drudkh, but i think we've talked about this beforeanyway lots and lots of good recommendations on that thread
― ☠ (roxymuzak), Monday, 21 March 2011 15:39 (fourteen years ago)
drudkh? ok i'll give it a shot. doesnt need to be too BM since you know atmospheric post rock/metal/sludge is my thing too. Just as long as i can hear some BM stuff too. I really liked the last Drudkh but i know some heads moaned it was too post rock and not metal enough.
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 15:42 (fourteen years ago)
also he's a nazi so feel free to illegally download
― ☠ (roxymuzak), Monday, 21 March 2011 15:44 (fourteen years ago)
oh yeah i like Darkspace and some xasthur
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 15:45 (fourteen years ago)
Drudkh is awesome. Start at the beginning of the catalog and work your way forwards. It's a rewarding trek.
Check out the Ides Of Gemini for some forward-thinking atmospheric BM. Almost has a british isles folk vibe. Clean, haunting female vocals. They have a release called The Disruption Writ you can listen to/buy on Bandcamp.
― Brooker T Buckingham, Monday, 21 March 2011 15:46 (fourteen years ago)
i guess wraiths count? i have one of their lps
i know all of the drudkh (as roxy knows i avoided them for a long time but the band released a statement saying theyre not nazis or far right or fascists so i see no reason not to believe them)
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 15:48 (fourteen years ago)
oh and im looking forward to the new wrath of the weak, anyone heard that yet?
maybe not metal enough for the rolling metal thread so i'll post it here this sounds like this scottish band might be ideal for those of you who enjoy atmospheric celtic shoegazy black metalhttp://www.lordsofmetal.nl/showreview.php?id=19712&lang=en
I'm guessing they may sound a bit like agalloch and alcest. Just going to give it a listen now

You might also like the Old Silver Key album. Which is Drudkh with Neige of Alcest on vox. (clean vox) its pretty much a shoegaze album
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uwQTKz5KVmw/TnQEh_PtO1I/AAAAAAAAE8Y/LzuKEoIbWuo/s1600/OLD%2BSILVER%2BKEY%2B-%2BTales%2Bof%2BWanderings%2B%25282011%2529.jpg
― Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 19:36 (fourteen years ago)
that is a very appealing cover
― some lady (La Lechera), Wednesday, 21 September 2011 19:39 (fourteen years ago)
It's not as heavy as i hoped, I didn't think it was going to be as shoegazy I expected a heavy album with clean vox. But i think it will appeal to a lot of people on here.
― Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 19:49 (fourteen years ago)
And this is also Glennmusic I thinkhttps://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-I1jZzdQCDtY/TnctTSNGPgI/AAAAAAAAESY/mbHfsYMxA_Y/097ad1ae675fa2bceb25ed98f1a758a8.png

Looking forward to playing this
― Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Thursday, 22 September 2011 00:06 (fourteen years ago)
haha Appalachian Winter are totally OTT. It's like if Laibach made an epic black metal album. You will either hate it after the vox kick in or you will love it. Not the usual kinda BM i like but somehow the ridiculousness hits the spot. Worth checking out just to see your reactions.
Not sure i'll recommend it in the rolling metal thread though, i might get chased out haha
― Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Thursday, 22 September 2011 01:18 (fourteen years ago)
I like that album cover better. More prog than BM though obv.
― Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Thursday, 22 September 2011 02:11 (fourteen years ago)

Format: Digi CDRelease Date: 10.10.2011Country: UkraineGenre: Depressive Black MetalBuy CDThe fifth, conceptual album of the Ukranian band Raventale has without doubt become the most sophisticated, sensual and mature work of the band. «Bringer Of Heartsore» is also the most atmospheric one of all the works by the project of the talented musician Astaroth who succeeded to express nostalgic autumn mood and beauty of nature by means of verses of famous poet of Silver Age Alexander Blok which provided more depth to the album concept. The musical part, as always, features metamorphoses as the musician follows his rule to introduce changes to every following album. The compositions feature brilliant solo guitar parts associated with classical progressive rock and dramatic acoustic guitar instrumentals. The CD is issued as a limited edition digipack, and its booklet includes fragments of the canvases by greatest Russian painters of 19th century: I. Aivasovsky and I. Raventale - TranscendenceFormat: CDRelease Date: 01.10.2012Country: UkraineGenre: Atmospheric Black MetalThe sixth album of Raventale once again discovers the band creativity to the attentive listeners. «Transcendence» presents majestic and deep music performed in style of savage black metal; this album features perfect sound, performance, musical and lyrical content. Without a doubt, this is one of the best works of Raventale. Conceptually «Transcendence»is on the threshold of the Epoch of the Six Sun. The main aim of the work is contemplation of transcendental and exorbitant forms of being against the background of conventionality and immanent degradation of modern civilization.
