Oh and since i was inspired to start this thread by CharlieS asking about Atlantean Kodex, must mention them. They're more on the epic doom side with bits of doom & power metal and stuff.

Never heard Warning, love the rest. What's the deal w Bethlehem? Are they trad or weird?
Candlemass made a very silly video once, but they are v v good, prolly my fave from that list.

In the dark caves of Italy, Black Oath, has been conjuring the dark spirits and has offered upon us four funeral hymns for their upcoming debut MCD. 25 minutes of pure occult horror doom has been proposed to Subject to Suffering as the sacrifice.
The Oath features members of Mortuary Drape and Denial of God. A must for fanatics of Candlemass, Jex Toth, and Pentagram.

Feel like it needs a better stereo than my dining-room/kitchen boombox. Fantastic movie sample dialogue usage though. Great little booklet in the CD. I've been trying for the past few years to get a clear picture of what the Italian scene really looks like from top to bottom, whether it has its own vibe, but I'm pretty sure this is the first actual doom band I've run across from Italy.

Amazed that Trouble, Saint Vitus and Pagan Altar (at least) are still out and about, at least in some form.

can i get someone who is a truer metalhead than I to delineate the difference between traditional metal and doom metal? I only came by the doom genre tag recently and it comprises everyone who i would have simply called traditional metal or metal qua metal or just metal. many thanks (and I'm being serious here, not faux naif or anything.)

kkvgz you only allowed 30 minutes between q & bump

doom kinda rules out the adventuresome wayfaring hard-charging vibe of trad-metal. I would actually argue that doom precedes trad, because all the early heavy bands are pretty doomy: Sabbath, Blue Cheer. But doom is generally 1) distortion-heavy 2) mid-tempo-to-slow and 3) kinda downer in vibe. even when it's uptempo, it's pretty dark. Sabbath isn't always that doomy -- around Technical Ecstasy & Sabotage they're really sort of pioneering a prog-trad kinda vibe.

trad metal is closer to "rock and roll" in my opinion, it's metal because it's harder and often faster. Mercyful Fate in my opinion is a trad metal band. It is a huge genre though. Bigger than doom which is very much you-know-it-when-you-hear it.

None of this is gospel there're people here who're way more into doom than me who might be able to offer a more succinct definition.

^but what about a band like Deep Purple? they were heavy as hell for the day, but not doomy at all. I think I would put them in the "trad" category.

what I like about it: bringing in CoC/Down/Clutch into the stoner-rock fold...I fux w/ them because some of the stoners I was friends with in high school got me into them, and in return I introduced them to Kyuss & QOTSA...feels kind of right that they all belong to the same genre...

1st 3 Nebula are better than any fu manchu tbh. But theres only really 1 fu manchu album that should be avoided at all costs and that is California Crossing which is a vile sounding fuzzless piece of shit
