My only memories are of R.E.M. and the Cure. I don't know how either would hold up today, but I loved that Cure chose to do The Blood, plus they made use of kazoos.

i have a hot bagel waiting for me in my bed so ill say this: (kkvgz), Tuesday, 22 March 2011 00:16 (fourteen years ago)

Both of those are outstanding, although R.E.M. gets points b/c their members didn't appear barefoot and showing their sunburned british knees.

the Crowded House one was good too.

i hate when r.e.m. hide their british knees

I saw that Satriani one.

Pearl Jam one was really good.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 22 March 2011 01:01 (fourteen years ago)

The Cure one was great in places. Loved the kazoo on "The Lovecats".

You're Twistin' My Melody Man! (Geir Hongro), Tuesday, 22 March 2011 01:02 (fourteen years ago)

Wait, shouldn't the classic LL Cool J set be up there?

I love the REM one from 1991---absolutely killer "Disturbance at the Heron House", definitive even. I've kept a bootleg of it on hand since that year in order to hear that version, & the take on "Pop Song 89". But the whole set is excellent, bongos & all.

Euler, Tuesday, 22 March 2011 01:11 (fourteen years ago)

a killer "Half a World Away" too.

Rich Lolwry (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 22 March 2011 01:13 (fourteen years ago)

scroll up, josh

some dude, Tuesday, 22 March 2011 01:14 (fourteen years ago)

I thought the toy piano was on "The Lovecats" and the kazoos were on "The Walk"

ancient, but very sexy (DJP), Tuesday, 22 March 2011 14:07 (fourteen years ago)

voted the unplugged rap over r.e.m. and elvis costello (the only thing i really remember from the elvis costello one was a this arrangement of 'other side of summer' that basically turned it into another fake van morrison song a la 'deep dark truthful mirror'), uptown unplugged did get an lp release (that jodeci version of 'lately' was a HUGE hit) as did the dylan. pearl jam one is where eddie vedder wrote 'PRO-CHOICE' on his arm right?

balls, Monday, 28 March 2011 02:33 (fourteen years ago)

oh yeah i forgot Jodeci was the Uptown one -- i definitely still hear that "Lately" version almost anytime i'm driving home from a show and listen to a late night quiet storm station.

corkslovetoscrew (some dude), Monday, 28 March 2011 02:37 (fourteen years ago)

It's easier to rate these based on their best individual moments, my favorites probably as "Lately," "Porch," "A Letter To Elise," "Mama Said Knock You Out.." Out of those I'll have to go for Yo! Unplugged Rap.

I would have considered Fiona Apple or Oasis.

'lol u stuck with me now watch this ass expand, joeks on u' (DJP), Monday, 28 March 2011 21:04 (fourteen years ago)

is this gonna be another one of those ilx polls where everyone in the thread is saying they'll vote ll or rem or the cure or whatever but when it comes time to tally the votes the cranberries win easily?

balls, Monday, 28 March 2011 21:57 (fourteen years ago)

that's happened before?

Said "Lovecats" above, but meant "The Walk" of course. Cool and eccentric version:

Voted for the Yo! MTV Raps one because it was great, but I also really liked those earliest ones where Jules Shear hosted. All the ones before Don Henley, I think that was the first hourlong, no host "special". I especially remember 10,000 Maniacs/Michael Penn being good. And Sinead Oconnor/the Church.

Nice to see the Cure performance on top. Maybe some of those recordings will eventually be released on the Deluxe "Wish"?
