― Lady Miss K-Lo (donna rouge), Wednesday, 23 March 2011 07:13 (fourteen years ago)
perfect lullaby is incredible
their s/t ep (with "caresss$", "moments in sex", "what dance" etc) and the mirage ep from last year both well worth hearing too
also, londoners!

Nguzunguzu fucking rule. So much bounce and lightness of touch to their rnb reworks but they can put out some pretty great 4/4 bangers as well (Nguzunguzu EP from last year is great).

The Perfect Lullaby is fuckin' A+, although nothing beats their Ciara remix for me at the moment. Looped "Boy is Mine" harp, the Ashanti/Pura Inspiracao bit is also v. good. Suspect that this will be in heavy rotation all summer.

Their forthcoming (I assume) single "Timesup" is deployed to great effect in both Kingdom's XLR8R mix and their European promo mix: http://www.discobelle.net/2011/03/17/nguzunguzu-euro-promo-mix/
Go see them if you have the chance. Considering a trip to LA just to go to their monthly with Kingdom and Total Freedom.

Did they do the M.I.A. vicki leaks mix? Their name is on some of the graphics I've seen for it, but not sure what role they had.
― Moodles, Monday, 28 March 2011 16:21 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah, the implication seemed to be that they mixed vicki leakx. the leftover /\/\/\Y/\ tracks were produced by Diplo and Switch and the usual gang but the mix and some of the interstitials and the newer stuff was nguzunguzu. also they are her new tour djs?
― Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill The Radio Star (Alex in Montreal), Monday, 28 March 2011 16:59 (fourteen years ago)
asma from nguzunguzu was the dj for MIA's last tour
― lex pretend, Monday, 28 March 2011 17:00 (fourteen years ago)
They'd be a much better fit for MIA than fucking Rusko.
― Matt DC, Monday, 28 March 2011 17:01 (fourteen years ago)
asma is her tour dj and thusly working on production stuff too. think i mentioned it in another thread that when she was hired i called it that mia would probably start making good music again after maya. fun fact: she got hired because a mutual friend was sort of "hey you're southeast asian and so is m.i.a. and she needs an assistant so you should hook up", and hung around long enough for m.i.a. to notice she's got sweet musical chops.

We named ourselves NGUZUNGUZU after a type of wooden canoe prow carving from the Solomon Islands. We liked the name firstly for its phonetics, when repeated rapidly it sounds like a digeridoo. And the idea of this guiding figure on our craft of sonic explorations. Something like a beacon, a navigational tool, a compass that points us in various directions.

So I saw them again last night and all is forgiven for the kinda wack previous time I saw them they were AMAZING and then I talked with Asma about the "Body Party" video and Alan about being new uncles. ^_^
― The Reverend, Monday, 17 June 2013 20:25 (twelve years ago)
what was it like?
― the late great, Monday, 17 June 2013 20:34 (twelve years ago)
I caught them at SXSW and they were also really good. Said a nervous "you guys were badass" to female DJ whose name I don't know.
― Moodles, Monday, 17 June 2013 20:45 (twelve years ago)
Unlike last time I saw them they weren't playing a venue too big for them. Chop Suey is kind of unforgiving to anyone who can't fill it (that's also where I saw the underwhelming Bok Bok show a few weeks ago), whereas Barboza where they played last night because it's narrow and long is more forgiving to any size crowd. The crowd last night was really mixed and interesting and had lots of people dancing but kinda thinned out as the night went on until at 1:30 after they'd been playing for 2 hours it was just me and my friends and one random other dude still dancing which we were all kind of exasperated at cause they'd been killing it all night. But it didn't matter cause we kept dancing hard right until the end.
Trying to think of stuff they played off the top of my head...
Bwana - "Baby Let Me Finish"a club remix of "Loveeeeeeee Song" can't remember if it was the DJ Sliink one or the Brenmar one but one of those twoB. Ames - "Vogue If Ya Nasty"Ciara - "Wake Up No Make Up"that crazy "Fuck U All the Time"/"Claptrap"/"Ice Rink" blend"Cashin' Out" (not a remix)a vogue remix of "Beez in the Trap" but not the Schwarz/Kevin Prodigy onesome Soulja Boy thing from after I stopped paying attentionthat one unreleased Kingdom track with the Busta/Mariah sampleL-Vis remix of "Bring in the Katz"A really noisy remix of "Body Party"
also a lot of grime-y stuff I didn't recognize

Kingdom - Stop What You're Doing and Give It to Me
― The Reverend, Monday, 17 June 2013 21:04 (twelve years ago)

I have that mix but this one mashup was just 1 song in a mix, not every song in the mix mashed with Moments in Love. I'll just add their mixes to my mp3 player again and see if I can find it to be more specific about the other song that was mixed with MiL. Thanks for the link though. I've got the mix on now and it's adding some fun to my afternoon lull.

The annoying thing is that I'd been assuming for years that the original Perfect Lullaby was a fluke and yet it appears that all this time they've been actively choosing NOT to play beatific sparkly My Little Pony R&B zouk shit and that really is inexcusable.
