Nguzunguzu fucking rule. So much bounce and lightness of touch to their rnb reworks but they can put out some pretty great 4/4 bangers as well (Nguzunguzu EP from last year is great).

The Perfect Lullaby is fuckin' A+, although nothing beats their Ciara remix for me at the moment. Looped "Boy is Mine" harp, the Ashanti/Pura Inspiracao bit is also v. good. Suspect that this will be in heavy rotation all summer.

Did they do the M.I.A. vicki leaks mix? Their name is on some of the graphics I've seen for it, but not sure what role they had.

Yeah, the implication seemed to be that they mixed vicki leakx. the leftover /\/\/\Y/\ tracks were produced by Diplo and Switch and the usual gang but the mix and some of the interstitials and the newer stuff was nguzunguzu. also they are her new tour djs?

asma is her tour dj and thusly working on production stuff too. think i mentioned it in another thread that when she was hired i called it that mia would probably start making good music again after maya. fun fact: she got hired because a mutual friend was sort of "hey you're southeast asian and so is m.i.a. and she needs an assistant so you should hook up", and hung around long enough for m.i.a. to notice she's got sweet musical chops.

And the idea of this guiding figure on our craft of sonic explorations. Something like a beacon, a navigational tool, a compass that points us in various directions.

So I saw them again last night and all is forgiven for the kinda wack previous time I saw them they were AMAZING and then I talked with Asma about the "Body Party" video and Alan about being new uncles. ^_^

what was it like?

I caught them at SXSW and they were also really good. Said a nervous "you guys were badass" to female DJ whose name I don't know.

Unlike last time I saw them they weren't playing a venue too big for them. Chop Suey is kind of unforgiving to anyone who can't fill it (that's also where I saw the underwhelming Bok Bok show a few weeks ago), whereas Barboza where they played last night because it's narrow and long is more forgiving to any size crowd. The crowd last night was really mixed and interesting and had lots of people dancing but kinda thinned out as the night went on until at 1:30 after they'd been playing for 2 hours it was just me and my friends and one random other dude still dancing which we were all kind of exasperated at cause they'd been killing it all night. But it didn't matter cause we kept dancing hard right until the end.

I definitely like how back to basics this is compared to their recent output.

I have that mix but this one mashup was just 1 song in a mix, not every song in the mix mashed with Moments in Love. I'll just add their mixes to my mp3 player again and see if I can find it to be more specific about the other song that was mixed with MiL. Thanks for the link though. I've got the mix on now and it's adding some fun to my afternoon lull.

The annoying thing is that I'd been assuming for years that the original Perfect Lullaby was a fluke and yet it appears that all this time they've been actively choosing NOT to play beatific sparkly My Little Pony R&B zouk shit and that really is inexcusable.
