might as well, right?
even tho the new single is just a remake of ross' "i'm not a star" i still think it's pretty good until wayne goes full grocery bag in the third verse

― wavy g. wavegarten (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 24 March 2011 20:13 (fourteen years ago)
haha i thought you were just exaggerating about the beat being similar but yeah half the song is lines from "I'm Not A Star"...that's actually one of the 3 Ross songs ever that i really fuck with, though, so i think that's kinda dope, even if it seems totally arbitrary and bizarre for Wayne to do as a single.
― some dude, Thursday, 24 March 2011 20:28 (fourteen years ago)
ehh his flow's kind of boring and metronomic here. just make the hot boys reunion album already...
― flow (chilli), Thursday, 24 March 2011 22:18 (fourteen years ago)
i would've liked a hot boy reunion album like 4 years ago but if lil wayne is gonna grocery bag all over an album i'd prefer it to be something i didn't have an intrinsic stake in
― wavy g. wavegarten (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 24 March 2011 22:23 (fourteen years ago)
also i like 'six foot seven foot' a lot (minus gunz of course) but i'd be happy if something else pushed it off radio playlists a bit
― wavy g. wavegarten (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 24 March 2011 22:24 (fourteen years ago)
i'm not sure i've ever heard a hot boyz album :/
― ilxor you've listened to one odd future album once (ilxor), Friday, 25 March 2011 03:29 (fourteen years ago)
"guerilla warfare" is pretty good, the others not so much unless you're a cash money fan. i would settle for a weezy/mannie/juve collabo, though the others are good in their own right. but yeah 6 foot 7 foot is one of his best recent releases, hope he continues in that direction
― flow (chilli), Friday, 25 March 2011 04:07 (fourteen years ago)
"get it how u live" is great too
― sisilafami, Friday, 25 March 2011 11:27 (fourteen years ago)
lol this song is called "john" apparently, which is an utterly terrible name & so much less awesome than if they could've called it "john lennon"
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 31 March 2011 20:45 (fourteen years ago)
haha what the fuck
― dayo technology (some dude), Thursday, 31 March 2011 21:15 (fourteen years ago)
also, polow's involvement in this song is puzzling me
― J0rdan S., Friday, 1 April 2011 05:07 (fourteen years ago)
My 11 year old son wrote a story for school entitled "The Best Day Ever" that involved him meeting some friends and one of them giving him Tha Carter IV. The teacher corrected "Tha" to "The".
― death, taxes and (onimo), Friday, 1 April 2011 09:27 (fourteen years ago)
lol so the single for ross' new album is ANOTHER ross/wayne re-make -- this time they excised t.i.'s verse from "9 piece" & threw a wayne verse on there
― J0rdan S., Monday, 4 April 2011 19:02 (fourteen years ago)

you listen to drone music
― J0rdan S., Monday, 4 April 2011 19:06 (fourteen years ago)
yes but drone repeats itself over and over and over on purpose (hence the name), not b/c it's running out of ideas :/
― hey ilxor, thanks for contributing, glad you stopped by (ilxor), Monday, 4 April 2011 19:14 (fourteen years ago)
"John" (lol) is so damn lazy it's ridiculous.

aren't you the guy who'd be OK with Wayne rapping the phonebook? at least he's retreading a good song.
― Metal Jennifer Saunders (some dude), Monday, 4 April 2011 22:04 (fourteen years ago)
That's a pretty exaggerated take on what I said. And "I'm Not a Star" >>>>
― banjee trillness (The Reverend), Monday, 4 April 2011 22:07 (fourteen years ago)
i like "john" a lot -- i did a mock up of my first quarter top 10 and wayne appears three times so i'm trying to figure out why that is
― J0rdan S., Monday, 4 April 2011 22:13 (fourteen years ago)
What were the other two?
― banjee trillness (The Reverend), Monday, 4 April 2011 22:16 (fourteen years ago)
I still can't get over the fact that the song is called "John"
― banjee trillness (The Reverend), Monday, 4 April 2011 22:17 (fourteen years ago)
he's (obviously) still a far cry away from when he was GREAT but he seems to be rapping w/ more purpose & focus now -- that's a big vague but more specifically it seems like he's at least temporarily dropped a lot of his bad habits (i.e. laughing at his own jokes) (though not all i.e. grocery bagging, excessive "the earth is a girl" metaphors) -- also for the time being at least he's not doing gross 'pop' stuff like the i'm not a human being/young money stuff that immediately preceded his sentence -- seems like he wants to go back to street shit a bit & i dig that
― J0rdan S., Monday, 4 April 2011 22:18 (fourteen years ago)
"john", "look at me now" & "hustle hard (remix)"
I wouldn't have problems with him doing a pop joint or two if they were more "Lollipop" and less "Bedrock".
I would f/w "Look at Me Now" but fuck Chris Brown.
― banjee trillness (The Reverend), Monday, 4 April 2011 22:28 (fourteen years ago)
i'm kinda interested in the way he's now dropped 2 straight up rap singles (whereas w/ C3 he dropped "Lollipop" and "A Milli" simultaneously), i'm assuming he does have some shameless crossover single coming before the album drops but i have no idea whether it'll be a predictable R&B singer(or Drake)-assisted AutoTune extravaganza or something else entirely.
other than the "real G's move in silence like lasagna" slow burner I can't say he's done any rapping I care about at all post-prison, though, he has dropped some annoying tics but he's hardly back to pre-C3 level.
― Metal Jennifer Saunders (some dude), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 00:08 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah, I pretty much appreciate him coming out with two rappin'-ass rap songs right away even if I think one of them sucks.

I semi-like the interlude one with Tech N9ne & Dre Ben. Horrible album though.
― Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Sunday, 14 October 2012 04:48 (twelve years ago)
for real, not generally a big Tech N9ne fan but his verse on this album is one of the only good things about it. I sorta liked John when it dropped but already can't remember anything about it beyond it being an inferior remake of I'm Not a Star

against the odds it's really amazing
― lex pretend, Sunday, 14 October 2012 12:59 (twelve years ago)
I liked "Blunt Blowin."
The first several songs on this album are actually pretty good, mixtape-caliber Wayne. But then the curious guests, high concepts and genre experiments come in and it's all over.
― Evan R, Sunday, 14 October 2012 14:39 (twelve years ago)
Kinda forget how much I liked "John," though. A perfect love letter to the idea of Rick Ross.

nope to which j0rdan?
― heiswagger (rennavate), Tuesday, 16 October 2012 15:02 (twelve years ago)
i think j0rdan was saying carter 4 is a toilet. although rennavate's post seemed to misunderstanding whiney's post re: the song title "john."
as far as unworthy blockbuster rap albums go, you could do a lot worse than carter 4. it's more bland and overly familiar than outright bad.
― some dude, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 19:48 (twelve years ago)
Yeah. It had some songs but was mostly bland and uninspired. I don't know why everybody hates How To Love though. That's a pretty good song.
― Gelados n cream (longneck), Tuesday, 16 October 2012 20:02 (twelve years ago)
The singles are almost all better than I remember them, and there were a fair amount of them, so by that measure the album did what it set out to do
― Evan R, Tuesday, 16 October 2012 20:06 (twelve years ago)
Also forgot about that closing track where Bun B, Busta and Nas all kind of kill it, but Wayne never shows up and it's just as well
i grew to appreciate "How To Love" over time, as much as i wanted to dismiss it outright

― curmudgeon, Sunday, 30 September 2018 17:36 (seven years ago)
otm, even on first listen it's so much better than Tha Carter IV, which was such a letdown after III. it's been 7 years (?) since I listened to a new lil Wayne album and this is good
― flappy bird, Sunday, 30 September 2018 21:57 (seven years ago)
was thinking recently how lucky we are that Wayne is still alive, how lucky he is. so many more rappers OD'ing in their 20s than in decades past
― flappy bird, Sunday, 30 September 2018 21:58 (seven years ago)
yep, I had that exact same thought. It made me appreciate this even more. If you had asked me couple of years ago I would have said the chances of Wayne actually growing old w a certain sense of dignity were close to zero. But here we are.
