is this thread about the way the snare is recorded/mic'd/mixed in punk records or the way it's played in punk songs or both/either?

both/either

i think you're just talking about production, like punk records with big '80s style reverb & compression?

yeah when i clicked on the youtube link i thought it was gonna like a NOFX song with a breakneck oompah beat

corkslovetoscrew (some dude), Monday, 28 March 2011 19:11 (fourteen years ago)

not necessarily.. i'm interested in the propulsion and energy given to songs by emphasizing the snare hit on the 2 and 4

tyler 'scratch' perry (diamonddave85), Monday, 28 March 2011 19:12 (fourteen years ago)

that's...all of them.

right but with the wire song posted above, the snare is the aural focus of the song
im interested in other tunes that place these beats at the fore

This doesn't have the production $$$ of the Wire song, but snare is crucial to this (and propulsion and energy aplenty:)

Minneapolis punk/new wave legends The Suburbs. (I may have seen them 100 times over the years.) The late, great Bimble started a thread about them here:

Erm, he didn't start it, but he's all over it.
