Psych. Sike's a contrivance and Psyche will lead to confusion.

i hope you know i mean the rap slang term and not the section of meandering pothead bullshit in your store
― suxv (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 29 March 2011 17:04 (fourteen years ago)
how would i know that?
― one dis leads to another (ian), Tuesday, 29 March 2011 17:05 (fourteen years ago)
in that case i am pretty sure it's still psych, short for 'psych out.' iirc.
In which case let us refer to a definitive reference:

its true, but rappers ran with it and they often have their own spelling. I once saw it in URB spelled "sike," i just got it in an email from a publicist spelled "psyche"
― suxv (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 29 March 2011 17:08 (fourteen years ago)
yeah internet lyric sites are def definitive resources

rappers have their own spellings for a lot of words..
― nope (absolutely clean glasses), Tuesday, 29 March 2011 17:10 (fourteen years ago)
If you're referring to rap rather than late 60s rock, I withdraw my suggestion. I have no idea. But all three of those also get used for late 60s rock. God, it's like the shock I got when I put on a disc by hot garage act the Artful Dodger expecting it to sound like the Sonics.
― Alan Partridge Project (ithappens), Tuesday, 29 March 2011 17:10 (fourteen years ago)
ultimately I will accept "psych" and "sike," but never "psyche."
― nope (absolutely clean glasses), Tuesday, 29 March 2011 17:11 (fourteen years ago)
It's meant in the sense of "not really, just kidding"
which rules out "Psych"

"psyche" is a two-syllable word
― goole, Tuesday, 29 March 2011 17:17 (fourteen years ago)
"sike" is funny because it's not a word, but you read it, and then you can hear which word it's supposed to be.

"psych" or "sike" -- both are acceptable -- kinda like "poseur" and "poser"
― sarahel, Tuesday, 29 March 2011 18:33 (fourteen years ago)
This has to be "psych". I hope. I had a friend who spelled it "sike" and it would drive me nuts and I just thought it was because he really can't spell (I'm not a great speller but this kid spelled resume "resumay" etc.)but one of my facebook friends always writes things like "Siked to see you this weekend!" so I guess that spelling is actually a thing but I sort of hate it.
― ENBB, Tuesday, 29 March 2011 18:36 (fourteen years ago)
sike started with all those garage rock dudes putting out comps.
― scott seward, Tuesday, 29 March 2011 18:52 (fourteen years ago)
like, in the 80's.

PSYCH.
You start with "sike" and suddenly you're writing "6Ts" and shit, like it saves time or looks cool or something.

It's meant to represent music of or pertaining to the sixties, without suggesting that it originates from that time.
Apparently, there's a similar thing called UK82punk

Back when people needed "dis" Big-Birded to them. My mom says "dis" now.
― kkvgz, Wednesday, 30 March 2011 15:43 (fourteen years ago)
but one of my facebook friends always writes things like "Siked to see you this weekend!"
But that use of psych/sike is different.
Here's the way it should work:
Psyched to see you this weekend...SIKE!

― kkvgz, Wednesday, 30 March 2011 15:50 (fourteen years ago)

yeah - I thought that was all sorts of confused. I still don't like "sike" though.
― ENBB, Wednesday, 30 March 2011 17:21 (fourteen years ago)
I'm cool with whatever, as long as it's in all caps
