your concert wish list

don't know if this has been done before, but: what artists have you never seen live before that you still really feel like you need to see at some point in your/their life? like only artists that are still alive and performing in some form that you would enjoy (not necessarily their current touring incarnation but a plausible future one). so not fantasy situations of deceased or disbanded artists or shows decades ago you wish you could've seen, which would be (and probably is) a whole other thread.

occurred to me because i've been very fortunate to see so many of my favorite artists live now that the list is getting shorter and shorter and shorter. doesn't have to be all-time favorites, though, could be new artists you're excited about now and haven't had a chance to see yet.

my top 10 at this point would be mostly big ticket artists since I've gotten to see so many of my fav smaller club-size acts many times now: Steely Dan, Springsteen, U2, Jay-Z, etc.

nice idea for thread. I've seen most of my favourite currently active artists at least once, the main one I need to check off now is the Hold Steady.

I thought I had checked everyone off my list when I finally caught NoMeansNo in 2006 after aggressively checking concert listings for the previous 13 years specifically to see them.

There have been a few that cropped up since then though. In 2007, I fell back in love with the Cure for the first time since junior high and bought tickets to see them live the following spring. A week before the concert thought, I sold tickets so I could go on a third date with the woman who is now my wife.

Also in 2007, I discovered the Mountain Goats. And every time they've come through, I've had some conflict or another. My kid sister caught them a few weeks ago, which adds to the itch.

Since I've become a parent though, I don't really care about going to see shows. Most of the time, I'd rather be there to tuck my kids in at night. But sometimes I do wanna rock.

I had to miss D'Angelo with the Roots a decade ago, but I guess we're not talking theoretical reunions?

Actually-existing artists/bands I'd love to see live:

The Go-Go's (just reunited)
Busy Signal
Madonna
AG
Public Enemy

Pete Scholtes, Wednesday, 30 March 2011 14:51 (fourteen years ago)

Neil Young
Van Morrison
Those Darlins
Bembeya Jazz
Mulatu Astatke
M.I.A.
Wire
Big Boi
Sly Stone
Tabu Ley
The Rolling Stones

Pete Scholtes, Wednesday, 30 March 2011 15:03 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i would still really like to see the Stones, although unlike say U2 or Springsteen i have a hard time imagining shelling out even the minimum ticket price for them

some dude, Wednesday, 30 March 2011 15:42 (fourteen years ago)

Pete, The Go-Go's played Taste of Minnesota not that long ago (well, when it was still on the capitol grounds, so whenever that was...) As much fun as could reasonably be expected for an 80s band in the 00's.

Partyin', partyin', fun fun fun fun (Dan Peterson), Wednesday, 30 March 2011 15:51 (fourteen years ago)

(xpost) Okay, looks like The Go-Go's were 2001? Time flies...

Partyin', partyin', fun fun fun fun (Dan Peterson), Wednesday, 30 March 2011 15:55 (fourteen years ago)

Immortal
Konono Nº1
Villalobos
Shackleton
King Midas Sound
Nass El Ghiwane
Skullflower
Bounty Killer (where he preferably shows up)
Kraftwerk

Reunions I'd love to see:
Magma
Can

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 30 March 2011 15:59 (fourteen years ago)

Magma play quite a lot, just mostly in France. Can reunion ain't happening now Karoli is no longer with us...

People I'd really like to see before they or I die :
Manuel Gottsching
Richard Pinhas
Ghost (the proper Japanese one)
Eliane Radigue, does she perform live? maybe not
Pentangle if they reform again (NOT Jacqui McShee's Pentangle though, I heard it's all DX7's and chorus pedals)

Nogma (Matt #2), Wednesday, 30 March 2011 16:42 (fourteen years ago)

Current 93 (he keeps announcing NYC shows and then deannouncing them arrrgh)
Scott Walker (never gonna happen)
Orang (cuz Talk Talk never gonna happen)
Blue Oyster Cult (this is not hard, they play like 300 dates a year; I just need to keep my eyes open for the next NY/NJ one. When Dio died I had a pang of "what if Eric or Buck croaks and I've never seen BOC?)
Rangda
A reformed ISB? Even just Robin Williamson solo...
FUCKING PRINCE there are opportunities but always when I'm broke

The Big four, in Oakland, for 'A day on the green', old school style, with bay area thrash alumni supporting... Testament, Exodus, Death Angel, Forbidden... I would love Vio-lence too but I don't think they'd do it I think they've hung it up for good.... maybe Sadus? lol!

SeanWayne, Wednesday, 30 March 2011 18:11 (fourteen years ago)

constantly punishing myself for not catchiing MBV when they were here in '09. our local paper voted it the single best concert of the year. but then again, "here" is denver and - yeah. that implies enough.

still surprised they even came here tho in the first place.

kelpolaris, Wednesday, 30 March 2011 19:09 (fourteen years ago)

Ha, I just missed Wire. I appreciate the Go-Go's now more than I did in 2001!

Pete Scholtes, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 14:06 (fourteen years ago)

Rolling Stones...I don't care how old they are--MUST. SEE.

Iago Galdston, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 14:11 (fourteen years ago)

Stevie Wonder.

SongOfSam, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 18:19 (fourteen years ago)

Oh man, Led Zeppelin as well--they gotta tour at least once more, right?

Iago Galdston, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 18:54 (fourteen years ago)

no Bonham, no Zeppelin

SeanWayne, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 18:56 (fourteen years ago)

really? haven't they played one offs with the son, Jason?

Iago Galdston, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 19:54 (fourteen years ago)

Big #1 - Underworld; I've been a fan since 1998, I had my license in 2003, and yet they've never even come close. In the last three years it's gotten to the point where I'm willing to fly to see them (as long as it's not a festival show) but things have come up. I'm 3.5 hours from Chicago but they haven't come anywhere NEAR there. I want to see them so much and I really do fear the idea that I may never see them play.

#2 - YMO; they are coming to CA in a couple of months, kind of want to make the trip, gotta pay my respects

#3 - Ween; I know how good their shows are, but I've never been able to go to one

frogbs, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 19:58 (fourteen years ago)

really? haven't they played one offs with the son, Jason?

they did one one-off in London with him. but the guy's point is that without the original drummer it ain't the same.

yes, i understand what he meant, but i'll bet you that time and itchy bank accounts will change that noble sentiment, hopefully

Iago Galdston, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 20:37 (fourteen years ago)

I've been pretty fortunate to see pretty much every (existing) act or band I've ever wanted to see. Sometimes it blows my mind how often I've gotten to see some acts I never though I'd get to see once!

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 20:40 (fourteen years ago)

would be great but seems very unlikely, Plant is dead set against it and I can't honestly see him changing his mind

xp

Kris Kristofferson

also, The Body and Girls, because I just barely missed both last year after highly anticipating both.
