Swedish Albums Poll

Trying to give Sweden a go here now. Same apply in the Norwegian poll, based upon RYM, added a couple populist hitlist choices having too many hate ratings on RYM to place properly there. And then, there is one exception. I have included two albums by ABBA. Why? Because they are ABBA. And because I felt like I needed to include both the typical canon pick and the outsider favourite loved by a lot of people on ILM.
Again ignoring some of the most esoteric stuff in the RYM lists, and again ratings only based upon ratings by people living in English speaking countries, to avoid obvious local Scandinavian favourites taking up space in the poll.

I have done my best to try and get all the most obvious picks (save for the most esoteric ones), but there may be one or two important titles missing. Cannot manage to fit everything into a poll though, as that would be too many options.

You're Twistin' My Melody Man! (Geir Hongro), Thursday, 31 March 2011 00:53 (fourteen years ago)

And then, my vote goes to Tages. A fantastic album that went largely unnoticed outside Scandinavia back then, but which has gotten a lot of attention later on.

Oh wait I didn't see Bo Hansson.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Thursday, 31 March 2011 01:22 (fourteen years ago)

where is Epicus Doomus Metallicus by Candlemass?

Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 31 March 2011 01:25 (fourteen years ago)

Somewhere giving space to "Nightfall" instead, as Nightfall seemed to be the one scoring the best in terms of a combination of being well-known (number of ratings) /high rated (average rating)

No Sagor och Swing, no credibility.

LJ isn't around to vote Meshuggah, someone should do it for him.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 31 March 2011 19:20 (fourteen years ago)

no actually nobody should vote meshuggah ever

broke my o_O face o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 31 March 2011 19:29 (fourteen years ago)

Voted Roxette. Nothing has nothing on Destroy Erase Improve, though. Some of those metal choices are... odd.

Doomsday Derelict (J3ff T.), Thursday, 31 March 2011 19:32 (fourteen years ago)

It's not like Geir knew what to pick, jeff.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 31 March 2011 19:41 (fourteen years ago)

this is like a postwar greek composer poll

kid 606: the nultness (nakhchivan), Thursday, 31 March 2011 19:45 (fourteen years ago)

Metal fans are probably split between 40-50 different acts anyway, so just had to pick the most well-known of them. That is, Opeth (obviously) and a few others.

How so? In that the obvious answer is Roxette?

Doomsday Derelict (J3ff T.), Friday, 1 April 2011 00:44 (fourteen years ago)

Norwegians understand Swedish almost perfectly, is that correct?

Shin Oliva Suzuki, Friday, 1 April 2011 00:59 (fourteen years ago)

Where is Whale in this list?

Shin Oliva Suzuki, Friday, 1 April 2011 01:00 (fourteen years ago)

Would have voted for Studio.

Carthusian Product (seandalai), Friday, 1 April 2011 01:00 (fourteen years ago)

The band that is, not the album by Tages (who I've never heard of)

Carthusian Product (seandalai), Friday, 1 April 2011 01:01 (fourteen years ago)

Norwegians understand Swedish almost perfectly, is that correct?

Yes. I believe these albums are largely English language though. Would make little sense to include Gyllene Tider, Secret Service, Vikingarna, Lasse Stefanz, Sven Ingvars, Björn Afzelius, Ulf Lundell, Imperiet, Ebba Grön, Dag Vag, Adolphsson & Falk, Freestyle and Håkan Hellström just because they are big Swedish names singing in Swedish. :)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Presume Denmark's next on your list?

B-Boy Bualadh Bos (ecuador_with_a_c), Monday, 4 April 2011 00:04 (fourteen years ago)

Don't know Danish music well enough. Swedish music has had such an internationally widespread popularity, plus Norwegians have also always had a lot of fascination for Swedish culture.

Denmark is more, like, a country we travel to with ferries and eat Danish brunches and sausages and walk the "Strøget" street up and down. :)

Hongroe (Geir Hongro), Monday, 4 April 2011 00:16 (fourteen years ago)

I love that Bo Hansson album so much. I can't find any of his other stuff. Why weren't his other albums based on works that were later adapted as insanely huge movie franchises, meaning they had to be reissued for tie-in potential?

Publicidad de Sexo (Abbbottt), Monday, 4 April 2011 00:48 (fourteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

i'm just glad xenakis won

The Geirogeirgegege (nakhchivan), Monday, 4 April 2011 23:03 (fourteen years ago)

Quite a spread there. Hope the vote for "The Final Countdown" was a joke vote.
