oppet, Saturday, 2 April 2011 00:43 (fourteen years ago)

i remember happening upon the "Get Alone With You" video on late night MTV a few times and just being bowled over by it, not having really heard "Caught Out There" or knowing anything about her or the Neptunes, and i think i still just like it way more than almost anything she's done since.

kl0pson (some dude), Saturday, 2 April 2011 00:44 (fourteen years ago)

muus lääv? :D muus dut :( (Telephone thing), Saturday, 2 April 2011 01:38 (fourteen years ago)

sad no1 else feels 'millionare'

RANDY BEAMAN ANAGRAM (Lamp), Saturday, 2 April 2011 01:40 (fourteen years ago)

"caught out there" is such a genuinely bizarre song & almost anti-pop -- i admire it & think it's great

i like the falsetto-y part of "young fresh n new" but still think it's more of an amazing beat than an amazing song

i like "trick me" a lot as well -- sorta straightforward by her standards but that makes it stand out a bit

"bossy" has tons of swag, that said i'd vote for the braxe/falke remix ahead of it (and maybe altogether)

"milkshake" is milkshake

1 caught out there
2 milkshake
3 bossy
4 trick me
5 young fresh n new

J0rdan S., Saturday, 2 April 2011 02:53 (fourteen years ago)

I love "Millionaire"! It gets stuck in my head all the time, especially the bitches/riches/glitches verse and "If you got glitches in your life, computer turn it off and then reboot, now you back on."

I've always been bummed it didn't get a U.S. single release. I think it could have been a big hit for her here, especially considering how huge "Milkshake" and "Hey Ya!" were. It's a shame Arista folded, and Jive decided not to make her a priority.

"Trick Me" is probably my personal favorite Kelis single, but agh, what a difficult choice.

!Alicia!, Saturday, 2 April 2011 03:34 (fourteen years ago)

somewhat easily "caught out there" 4 me

teledyldonix, Saturday, 2 April 2011 07:53 (fourteen years ago)

it is "caught out there" but that Tiefschwarz remix of "Trick Me" beats all

a SB-in' artist that been in the game for a minute (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 2 April 2011 08:03 (fourteen years ago)

"get along with you" vs "trick me" is reeeeeeeally hard for the #1 spot. think i'd go

1. get along with you
2. trick me
3. good stuff
4. caught out there
5. milkshake
6. brave
7. 4th of july (fireworks)
------------------dividing line between "great" and "merely ok"
8. young, fresh n new
9. blindfold me
10. scream
11. millionaire
12. bossy
13. lil star
------------------dividing line between "merely ok" and "do not want"
14. in public
15. acapella

"blindfold me" would have been higher cuz it's pretty crunk, but i found that nicole scherzinger's almost identical "whatever u like" trumped it somewhat

wanderland and tasty both so misrepresented by their singles!

don't really care about the original "bossy" but the switch remix is AMAZING

the bassline on "good stuff" pushes it ahead of "caught out there" for me - and her amazing interjection of "yeah right!" is such an all-time pop moment

lex pretend, Saturday, 2 April 2011 08:11 (fourteen years ago)

sometimes i think that kelis's pinnacle might be the three-track closing sequence of tasty - "rolling through the hood"/"stick up"/"marathon" - she basically nails this perfect balance between abstract and earthy and rides it through to a completely sensual conclusion. "okay - now, swallow.'

lex pretend, Saturday, 2 April 2011 08:13 (fourteen years ago)

always thought this was a great lost kelis track too - inexplicable bonus track shoved at the end of the shonky kelis was here

lex pretend, Saturday, 2 April 2011 08:15 (fourteen years ago)

aw shit i forgot that "brave" is the amazing song off the last album

J0rdan S., Saturday, 2 April 2011 08:16 (fourteen years ago)

shonky?

J0rdan S., Saturday, 2 April 2011 08:16 (fourteen years ago)

shonky, patchy, incoherent, not very good but has its moments

lex pretend, Saturday, 2 April 2011 08:19 (fourteen years ago)

Good Stuff

groovemaaan, Saturday, 2 April 2011 08:23 (fourteen years ago)

i'd forgotten "like you" off kelis was here! so sweet. magic flute sample + "or is it his...cock?" then that snigger + the line "you can fluff my feathers"

lex pretend, Saturday, 2 April 2011 08:59 (fourteen years ago)

yea i like 'fuck them bitches' a lot; i like 'weekend' a lot also -- i almost did a kelis was here poll instead of this but i thought itd be less interesting

johnny crunch, Saturday, 2 April 2011 14:07 (fourteen years ago)

o0o00h really? (boxedjoy), Saturday, 9 April 2011 12:11 (fourteen years ago)

she was only the featured artist on that right?

lex pretend, Saturday, 9 April 2011 17:53 (fourteen years ago)

"Get Along With You" blew my mind as a teenager because shattered my purist perspective between mainstream & neo-soul/"authentic" r&b. This song straddle between those two sub-genres as it was "different" but not so "different" that it couldn't be played on the radio. However, my city's dumbass r&b station never played it or any Kelis songs for that matter. Also something about that lyric:

As a matter of fact this damn life
Cause I just wanna get along with you

I always wonder if that referenced lifestyle or her wanting to commit suicide. Anyway, great song.

lilsoulbrother, Saturday, 9 April 2011 18:01 (fourteen years ago)

The first album is my favourite by far but the singles split my vote and Young Fresh N New is so berserk.

borkslovethewu (some dude), Sunday, 10 April 2011 02:10 (fourteen years ago)

whoa surprising showing for "young, fresh n new" - though "trick me" would be the winner tbh

lex pretend, Sunday, 10 April 2011 07:34 (fourteen years ago)

Some dude otm.

Tim F, Sunday, 10 April 2011 07:55 (fourteen years ago)

if i'd known it would get no love at all i woulda given lil star a sympathy vote.

messiahwannabe, Sunday, 10 April 2011 08:34 (fourteen years ago)
