There was no existing thread amazingly.

Anyway their official(?) Facebook group http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=7692217731 has a new song on it called
New Moon available as a free download while some little tease has posted THIS picture:

What can it all mean?

Either way it's great to once again hear John Campbell's now traditional 'spoken word' bit at the end of this new track...

This was always my fave from the *genuinely* great debut album that basically turned me on to non chart music all by itself

Love that song! Never heard the albums, but the singles were great.

ka£ka (NickB), Wednesday, 6 April 2011 14:42 (fourteen years ago)

Listening to that song again and it's ramshackle quality makes me think of the Woodentops, the Blue Aeroplanes, the Band of Holy Joy... have no idea what scene they were part of at the time though.

cockroach shakespeare (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 6 April 2011 14:51 (fourteen years ago)

ka£ka (NickB), Wednesday, 6 April 2011 14:56 (fourteen years ago)

i passed on a dollar 12" of 'space' this weekend. i already have the lp. didn't know if the 2 mixes on it were markedly different.

jaxon, Wednesday, 6 April 2011 17:45 (fourteen years ago)

so i was thinking "man these guys were on some blue nile ish with the second album" before just finding out that calum malcolm from the blue nile actually produced the album, hah

Sittin' Fran (donna rouge), Monday, 11 April 2011 02:50 (fourteen years ago)

Their lead singer sounds like Kevin Spacey.

i swear Wild Beasts must have their 2 albums in their collection.

piscesx, Friday, 13 May 2011 02:34 (fourteen years ago)

five months pass...

Listened to Dan Selzer's mix with 'A Gigantic Raft in the Philippines' on it. Surprised it's not loved here. Is it too much like other groups e.g. Talking Heads, Gang of Four for other ppl's liking?

two months pass...

it's very like The Go-Betweens too.

there was a Facebook page set up by what appeared for the best part of a year to be the band themselves. in the end turned out it was a hoax! whoever was running the page was leaking new, unreleased tracks and stuff all over the place. crazy really.

piscesx, Sunday, 8 January 2012 10:23 (thirteen years ago)

how did the hoaxter get the new unreleased tracks? Or did they finish that last album and nobody would release it, so someone at the label or studio decided to spread it around? I tried getting in touch with someone from the band but got no response.

dan selzer, Sunday, 8 January 2012 16:27 (thirteen years ago)

yeah that 3rd album was made but unreleased. soemone musta got their hands on it. from what i heard it didn't sound much cop anyway :/

piscesx, Wednesday, 6 February 2013 02:26 (twelve years ago)

Yeah, excited about that. I emailed about the early stuff too.

cracking faintly tragi-comic feature over 6 pages in Classic Pop mag this month. I had no idea that The Christians essentially formed *because* of their work on Ed's Funky Diner! fascinating piece anyway, essentially they won, in their own way.,

piscesx, Wednesday, 23 September 2015 19:44 (nine years ago)

What's Classic Pop mag?

Anyway, as of a few days ago more posts on facebook about another album.

^ no idea what it is, but this popped up while i was digging around on youtube the other day. bit of a talk talk / tears for fears thing going on

Ray Chard (NickB), Wednesday, 23 September 2015 21:59 (nine years ago)

http://www.classicpopmag.com/ , Dan.

I'm guessing the feature was by Wyndham Wallace?

djh, Wednesday, 23 September 2015 22:22 (nine years ago)

yeah Classic Pop.. 6 quid it is!

more unheard stuff in this

piscesx, Wednesday, 29 June 2016 17:46 (eight years ago)

Excellent. Read somewhere that the 3rd album was finally going to get a proper release one day soon. Anyone know about anything about that?

coygbiv (NickB), Wednesday, 29 June 2016 17:57 (eight years ago)

they keep teasing it on facebook.

dan selzer, Wednesday, 29 June 2016 18:14 (eight years ago)

indeed, i just found that - thanks dan!

coygbiv (NickB), Wednesday, 29 June 2016 18:15 (eight years ago)

yeah there's to be a kickstarter-y thing.

piscesx, Wednesday, 29 June 2016 18:15 (eight years ago)

good new primer here on all things *pre* the debut, which is an album's worth of EPs, singles and B sides all by itself

https://postpunkmonk.wordpress.com/2016/06/10/its-immaterial-prehistory-in-need-of-compilingcan-it-be-done/

always blows my mind just how much other stuff there was by these guys. it was literally unavailable anywhere in the late 80s and i barely knew of much of its existence (Fish Waltz EP, Imitate The Worm single) until the internet came along. some of those Liverpool labels musta been tiny.

piscesx, Wednesday, 29 June 2016 18:23 (eight years ago)

I tried emailing them on facebook about reissuing that stuff, LOVE those early singles. Never got a response.

dan selzer, Wednesday, 29 June 2016 18:42 (eight years ago)

as of today the remaster is on Spotify in full FYI.

piscesx, Saturday, 2 July 2016 02:00 (eight years ago)

four years pass...

Just now discovering this group. The Song album is excellent - I think it should get mentioned alongside Blue Nile's Hats. same gorgeous rainy-day atmosphere, completely transporting
