They are Japanese. Hiding Place is an unabashed approximation of early Galaxie 500 but a massively gorgeous one, on par with On Fire in many respects. After After Hours I only heard once and don't remember.

And then Happy / Trance Mellow. At the time I didn't understand why this didn't get much attention in the US. It's a very particular record, the complete apex of a certain sound -- dreampop, Eno-ambient, analog drones, subtle electronics, POP -- and that's precisely what makes it so massive and impressive: two discs of mindboggling breadth and sweetness, all in giant dreamy synthetic washes. It's a big dreampop double-album, and however you're imagining it it's ten times more. It's also the only record I own on which my favorite bit is a four-minute organ solo.

So who has heard it? Love for life or immediately sickened? I was bowled over by this and only later learned that no one else found it particularly relevant.

Of course it's not relevant, nobody likes that indie crap. ;-)

Only heard Hiding Place and I liked it quite a bit. Who released these other albums over here?

World Domination, though I'm not sure they're still in print! Happy / Trance Mellow is better than Just for a Day, Ned.

Make not such sweeping claims without honest belief in what you are saying, or you shall pay for it dearly.

The only Galaxie 500 pastiche out there more convincing than Sugarplant's early work is the first Tacoma Radar single.

They're good, but.....

Yes, the G500 thing was really just Hiding Place. I've concluded that more people must at least hear Happy / Trance Mellow.

I liked Happy / Trance Mellow quite a bit even though I can't remember what it sounded like. I remember a lot of the people at the radio station I was at played it. So that means it must be likeable to all sorts - not just indieshmindie people.
