'born to run' vs. 'bat out of hell'

both are awesome records, on an even playing field i'd say Bruce but at the moment i'm gonna throw my support behind Meat

This is as good a place as any to bring up this story which I think I've recounted several other places, but never ILM:

In my high school, there was this kid named Daniel who I'm pretty sure was mentally well but had all the social graces of a cinder block. Anyway, one of the teachers suffered a miscarriage after already having two other children. When she returned from medical leave, he gave her a sympathy card, a white rose and a 45rpm single of Meat Loaf's "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad."

Jesus that story. Having read Chris Ware's latest Acme Novelty Library today as well it feels like the perfect weird addendum.

Anyway, Meat Loaf, in that I like the Broadway version of Bruce better than Bruce.

I hate both these albums, but the loathing towards the Loaf is a tiny bit stronger.

I've honestly never gotten Bruce. Bat out of Hell also.

The thing these records have in common is The Arcade Fire have based their entire career on them.

I feel like the 'born to run' lyrics would look better if it weren't for the fact that the albums that followed it were about 100x more mature.

like if after the album was released, springsteen died in a freak car accident while fleeing from his troubles in an old chevy on a dark jersey turnpike, I might like the album more. instead he just made better albums.

I'm not sure they were *better* so much as different. Born to Run def. sounds like the work of a young person but there's something interesting in that.

I love that story. I want to see it on an episode of House.
