Albums even, rather than bums. Jesus, I just can't type today.

Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love

GLOWER METAL (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 10 April 2011 13:10 (thirteen years ago) link

This is too hard. I'm having a hard time narrowing it to one or two from each album.

I love a lot of this stuff, but I have to give it "Running With The Devil" since I bookmarked the fucking soundboard

da croupier, Sunday, 10 April 2011 13:45 (thirteen years ago) link

This is seriously difficult. I mean, yeah, the debut is fucking untouchable, but I'm sorely tempted to give it to "Mean Street."

that's not funny. (unperson), Sunday, 10 April 2011 13:56 (thirteen years ago) link

unchained and everybody wants some are for sure the ones to beat. "and the cradle will rock" is pretty prescient to my mind about how hesher culture is going to feel for suburban types - that "unemployed/his folks are overjoyed" line is sort of a whole sunset strip metal attitude toward existence encapsulated.

this is a band whose descent into suckitude depresses me a lot - it is almost impossible to explain to anybody that they were cool, if you missed it it's not going to sound like it was any good I think

wth? You left "On Fire" off the list.

I'm into sci-fi so Atomic Punk.

Trip Maker, Sunday, 10 April 2011 14:59 (thirteen years ago) link

"Jamie's Cryin'"
Gotta be something from the first although I would have gone for "Jump" had the fifth album been included.

that's not my experience at all -- i know tons of people my age or younger who are in general agreement that the DLR era is unfuckwithable and that Van Hagar is pretty much a different band that doesn't have much impact on the original band's coolness (and if you're hating on 1984 then that's a whole other can of challops).

borkslovethewu (some dude), Sunday, 10 April 2011 15:05 (thirteen years ago) link

xp "Jump" is on the sixth album.

Wouldn't voted "On Fire", but I guess I'll go "Unchained"

Darin, Sunday, 10 April 2011 15:09 (thirteen years ago) link

Sorry for missing On Fire. Was cutting and pasted and must have deleted it by accident.

Alan Partridge Project (ithappens), Sunday, 10 April 2011 15:12 (thirteen years ago) link

Possibly "Bottoms Up" .. hmmm

billstevejim, Sunday, 10 April 2011 15:12 (thirteen years ago) link

On Fire would've def been my choice, but I'll vote Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love instead.

hon mentions for Hear About it Later, Somebody Get Me a Doctor and Unchained.

Went with Unchained over Everybody Wants Some and Dance the Night Away. What puts it over the edge for me is this misheard lyric: "blue-eyed murder in a sci-fi dress".

Kinda wanna do Eruption for the whole "woah dude"-ness of the first listening experience, then playing it for yr dudes and hearing them go, "woah dude".

At the moment I'm finding it hard to look past Dance the Night Away, which is as perfect a pop song as a hard rock band has written.

Here's an interesting 1984 interview with Diamond Dave

Classic DLR quote two-fer, always a pleasure:

x-post That 1984 interview is great. If it was Gene Simmons, that all would have come off totally dickish, but DLR knows how to eat 'em and smile, so to speak.

seriously! I've never met anyone who doesn't get and make the distinction - there's even a hit single about it!
