one dis leads to another (ian), Monday, 11 April 2011 02:48 (fourteen years ago)

Voted Nixon.

Mark, Monday, 11 April 2011 02:48 (fourteen years ago)

this might be crazy, but i could probably vote for OH. can't believe that record didn't get more attention.

tylerw, Monday, 11 April 2011 04:08 (fourteen years ago)

Predictably I'm divided between Nixon and Is A Woman.

lol sickmouthy (Scik Mouthy), Monday, 11 April 2011 07:52 (fourteen years ago)

Tyler, I'm with you on that completely.

Can you keep up? (Cheetah), Monday, 11 April 2011 08:22 (fourteen years ago)

Nixon, no question. Gave up after Aw/No, which I found really unremarkable - or it could have been a case of double album listening fatigue. I think I listened to Damaged once.

How I Quit Smoking, for deffo.

I'm the very same. Will ponder on this some more...

Future Debts Collector (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 11 April 2011 09:15 (fourteen years ago)

Nixon needs no further stanning, but Is A Woman is a pretty fucking great record, front to back.

Future Debts Collector (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 11 April 2011 09:15 (fourteen years ago)

still amazed how The National are more famous than Lambchop.

piscesx, Monday, 11 April 2011 10:12 (fourteen years ago)

Between Nixon and OH (Ohio) for me. Think I'm going with Nixon just because I've had so much more time with it. Is A Woman a strong third.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 11 April 2011 11:12 (fourteen years ago)

Nixon, OH (Ohio) and the lovably dark Is A Woman are my three, too. Voting Nixon, because, come on, that record rules.

If ever a rock critic cliche was apt, this is a band that's criminally underrated.

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Monday, 11 April 2011 12:37 (fourteen years ago)

Nixon. Truly a great record. Really gotta listen to "Is A Woman" again, I am ready to love another Lambchop record (which I do love many) and just never spent a lot of time with that one.

grandavis, Monday, 11 April 2011 13:01 (fourteen years ago)

Is a Woman edges it over Nixon for me but they're all great and I dunno why I haven't heard OH yet.

cockroach shakespeare (Noodle Vague), Monday, 11 April 2011 13:16 (fourteen years ago)

sort of tired of this band lately, but I used to be a big fan. I started with How I Quit Smoking which I spinned on/over many holidays.. But I'm with the vox populis here, I also like Nixon and Is A Woman best. going to vote Is A Woman, cause it's so fricking feverishly-sensually minimal.

Ludo, Monday, 11 April 2011 13:23 (fourteen years ago)

Still gutted I missed the Nixon era concert in the Royal Albert Hall. I even had a ticket... just had to go on holiday to Costa Rica instead ;_;

OHIO is terrific

Michael B, Monday, 11 April 2011 13:43 (fourteen years ago)

Checking it out now...

Nixon also has the best cover btw fwiw.

and the hint of parp (ledge), Monday, 11 April 2011 14:01 (fourteen years ago)

Nixon for me, a stone classic. I saw them open for YLT, touring Nixon, & it remains the most astonishing live show I've seen, like I still get chills thinking about it, so much happiness & goodwill & joy; don't think I stopped smiling for two days afterward. I hear the album through that show but it remains apex: "You Masculine You"'s triumphant ending, I wish it could go on for eight or eighty hours, like that is what life ought to sound like.

Euler, Monday, 11 April 2011 14:21 (fourteen years ago)

i would love to see "up with people" performed live

reggie (qualmsley), Monday, 11 April 2011 14:24 (fourteen years ago)

they are great live, seek out the "pet sounds sucks" tour CD if you can find it, from the is a woman tour, i believe? the "you masculine you" there is unbelievable. favorite deep cut by them is "gettysburg address" on the decline of country & western pt. 2 disc.

write-in vote for "the salesman and bernadette"

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 11 April 2011 14:43 (fourteen years ago)

thanks for posting that, tyler. i hadn't heard it before

reggie (qualmsley), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 09:49 (fourteen years ago)

the studio version is superior, not nearly as spritely as this live rendition. nice clip, though!

tylerw, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 12:08 (fourteen years ago)

I got really teary-eyed during the Lambchop performance at the Merge Records 15-year anniversary show. Amazing! "Up With People" is great live, though when I saw them play it recently (well, a couple of years ago) they sped it way up and made it a little less groovy, which didn't necessarily equate to the majesty of the recorded version. Still, the band these days is super-good. William Tyler is the man.

grandavis, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 18:42 (fourteen years ago)

thanks for reminding me, i need to get that merge set...and that william tyler solo cd.
last time i saw lambchop (a while ago now, maybe the aw cmon tour) it was a really aggressive show! at least by their standards. wagner was really spitting out the lyrics, songs sounded super spikey.

tylerw, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 18:48 (fourteen years ago)

Really tough choice -- HIQS through Nixon is an unfuckwithable quartet. I'm not really fond of the albums I've heard after Nixon.

My favorite day of live music was probably 11 March 2000, Lambchop opening for YLT, both afternoon and evening shows. Also saw them on the last show of the Is a Woman tour in Nashville at the Belcourt.

The Louvin Spoonful (WmC), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 19:08 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, band is really "on" in that they play the hell out of the songs, and Wagner definitely gets into it in ways not really imaginable listening to the records sometimes. Would have liked to have seen one of those YLT/Lambchop shows.

grandavis, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 19:21 (fourteen years ago)

been listening to OH (Ohio) because of this thread and yes, it's a lot better than I remembered.

also, still lolz about naming an album Thriller

Ludo, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 19:22 (fourteen years ago)

yeah OH didn't seem like much at first to me, just kinda drifted by, but it really became a favorite after more listening.

tylerw, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 19:24 (fourteen years ago)

i didn't read the thread but the poll answer is so obvious that it hurts.

alex in mainhattan, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 20:29 (fourteen years ago)

dunno, if you read the thread, the results might not be all that obvious?

tylerw, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 20:34 (fourteen years ago)

I got really teary-eyed during the Lambchop performance at the Merge Records 15-year anniversary show. Amazing! "Up With People" is great live,p\

hey i was at that! awesome awesome show. i apparently need to check out OH. i can't lie, i've found most of their post-Nixon stuff (that i've heard) a little tedious. needs more r&b imo.

confederate terror anchor babies (will), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 20:50 (fourteen years ago)

will vote for What Another Man Spills

Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 00:08 (fourteen years ago)

looking at the thread answers (& title) i have the impression the WRONG album will win this...

hoping for the silent majority...

alex in mainhattan, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 07:44 (fourteen years ago)

Is a Woman

JacobSanders, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 07:53 (fourteen years ago)

is sublime

JacobSanders, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 07:56 (fourteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

what jacob said.

alex in mainhattan, Friday, 15 April 2011 17:51 (fourteen years ago)

haven't heard most of these but is a woman is a very beautiful record.

original bgm, Friday, 15 April 2011 17:56 (fourteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Friday, 15 April 2011 23:01 (fourteen years ago)

i have the feeling the two best albums have won. though i don't know all of them.

alex in mainhattan, Saturday, 16 April 2011 06:17 (fourteen years ago)

Best possible result!

Future Debts Collector (Le Bateau Ivre), Saturday, 16 April 2011 09:23 (fourteen years ago)

I never could decide on a favorite between Nixon and How I Quit Smoking.

The Louvin Spoonful (WmC), Saturday, 16 April 2011 13:09 (fourteen years ago)

seven years pass...

Damaged 2

real heads know

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Wednesday, 6 March 2019 18:52 (six years ago)

I haven't heard that one. "Ohio" is def underappreciated

. (Michael B), Wednesday, 6 March 2019 20:50 (six years ago)

I'd have voted Is A Woman, I think.

I've somehow entirely missed Damaged until now. Beers Before the Barbican is gorgeous.

Good cop, Babcock (Chinaski), Wednesday, 6 March 2019 20:52 (six years ago)

"Fear" off Damaged is great. Would agree with the top 2, though. Scrolling through this, reminded that I have "Pet Sounds Sucks" in a box of tour / boot cds, and need to pull that out.

the body of a spider... (scampering alpaca), Wednesday, 6 March 2019 20:54 (six years ago)

Damaged was the first thing I heard by them. I remember about 90 seconds into 'Paperback Bible' having one of those moments like "yeah... me and this band are gonna get along real good."

One Eye Open, Wednesday, 6 March 2019 21:14 (six years ago)

That's a great feeling. The one I don't think I was ready to appreciate was the Fennesz collab (Into the Fishtank?), which I want to give more time to now.
