*Candlebox: Classic or Dud -- Search and Destroy*

on the basis of seeing them constantly slammed as the worst of bad 90s alt-rock and always seeing multiple copies of their album with the scary clown cover in used bins, i say dud.

search: 'their early stuff ' (invariably, 'better than their later stuff')

destroy: that album with the scary clown on the cover

Not that that's anything to do with Candlebox. I dont think the UK ever got Candlebox.

their 1st record is kinda interesting as a perfect example of early/mid-90s corporate grunge (for lack of a better term). it could practically be preserved in amber for the ages as such.

I know I've posted this elsewhere, but living in Seattle in the early 90s was funny; billions of phone-pole posters for Candlebox, Hammerbox, Crackerbash, Stickerbush... I could never keep 'em straight.

I saw that Sponge has a brand new album out this year. Can't believe they're still kicking around.

i remember having a drunken t/s: Collective Soul v. Candlebox argument with a couple of friends circa '96. I argued passionately for CS. they thought I was taking the piss, but really, candlebox <<<<<<<<<<<<< collective soul.

All of these bands truly sucked except for Hammerbox.

Mark Yarm's grunge book achieves the impossible in making me feel compassion for Candlebox. Interesting insight into how it feels to be the hated corporate band in a scene.
