Inspired by the poll about your favourite moniker/project of Will Oldham, here's the ALBUM POLL, polling all the albums he's made under different names. Singles and EP's are not included. 'Palace' includes Brothers/Music/etc. WO = Will Oldham, BPB = Bonnie 'Prince' Billy. Here's hoping I didn't forget an album...

You should do the ep/singles poll too then, just to stop the "oh i wanted to vote for that"

Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 15:58 (fourteen years ago)

There is No One What Will Take Care of You or Arise Therefore would be my choices. I've struggled with post Ease Down the Road stuff, although I liked BPB Sings Greatest Palace Music.

But yeah, Mountain EP and the Hope mini LP were great as well.

GamalielRatsey, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 16:01 (fourteen years ago)

In the next life, AG.

It's between There Is No One, Viva, Master & Everyone and Lie Down In The Light for me. The last two are brilliant and somewhat underrated (?) gems. M&E is as perfect as an album can be.

Palace: Lost Blues And Other Songs

Forgot to mention Joya, shame on me xp

Future Debts Collector (Le Bateau Ivre), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 16:06 (fourteen years ago)

Poor noodle vagues brain will explode, how can he choose?

Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 16:07 (fourteen years ago)

Voted Lie Down in the Light, easily my favourite at the moment. M&E is perfect, tru.

cockroach shakespeare (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 16:08 (fourteen years ago)

Lost Blues and Guarapero are singles/rarities comps.

(as is BPB "Sings")

it's time for the fish in the perculator (Steve Shasta), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 16:20 (fourteen years ago)

Oh I'm not sure about the latter - that's a proper album really isn't it?

GamalielRatsey, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 16:21 (fourteen years ago)

'proper', hark at me.

GamalielRatsey, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 16:21 (fourteen years ago)

Viva Last Blues vs. I See a Darkness imho

in my world of loose geirs (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 16:26 (fourteen years ago)

You have to consider Greatest Palace Music as its own thing I think.

cockroach shakespeare (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 16:27 (fourteen years ago)

Aww, no Days in the Wake? Or does that one not count...

Non-Stop Erotic Calculus (bmus), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 16:42 (fourteen years ago)

this is really hard. might go:

viva last blues
superwolf (way underrated)
i see a darkness

it was originally self-titled when released and is in the poll as such

mizzell, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 16:51 (fourteen years ago)

Get on Jolly is one of my faves but i've never heard this live thing that't listed.

mizzell, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 16:53 (fourteen years ago)

Days in the Wake is the s/t album no?

xp

Mizzell, Discogs lists 'Get on Jolly' as an EP, and therefore I didn't include it. Thisis Get The Fuck On Jolly.

Future Debts Collector (Le Bateau Ivre), Tuesday, 12 April 2011 17:01 (fourteen years ago)

yeah my CD says days in the wake and i was confused for years, hah

Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 17:06 (fourteen years ago)

Lost Blues And Other Songs has an astounding version of Stable Will

Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 17:17 (fourteen years ago)

The album I still listen to the most is Sings Greatest Palace Music, after The Letting Go I stopped picking up his music. For me it's between Lost Blues and Sings. Probably going with Lost Blues since it has Gulf Shores.

JacobSanders, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 17:40 (fourteen years ago)

Viva Last Blues

mostly for "more brother rides" and "new partner"

weird that 3 of my favorite Palace songs are the 3 that were included on the "Mountain" CD single; "Gulf Shores," "(End Of) Traveling," and "West Palm Beach"

Yeah The Mountain ep ace! It's my favorite narrative of his.

maybe he hates the other songs

Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 21:20 (fourteen years ago)

which would obviously be daft

Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 21:20 (fourteen years ago)

how are these 2 that I've not heard?
BPB: Superwolf (Matt Sweeney And Bonnie 'Prince' Billy)
BPB: The Brave and the Bold (Tortoise & Bonnie "Prince" Billy)

Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 00:05 (fourteen years ago)

I See a Darkness

Grotjahn in the Moma (Pillbox), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 01:46 (fourteen years ago)

I'm all Ease Down The Road.

BPB: The Brave and the Bold (Tortoise & Bonnie "Prince" Billy)

Superwolf's pretty great. The Brave and the Bold's pretty bad.

I don't know how to vote here. I See a Darkness and Ease Down the Road were pretty huge for me back when I was really into him, but I've worn them to death and can't really get much pleasure from them anymore. These days I'd probably go for Viva Last Blues, Lost Blues and Other Songs, or Sings Greatest Palace Music.

I See a Darkness.

scott pgwp (pgwp), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 04:39 (fourteen years ago)

The Brave and the Bold's pretty bad.

that's too bad, i'll skip it then and check out Superwolf.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 12:51 (fourteen years ago)

I like the Brave and the Bold but then I generally like Tortoise, even the later albums that other people hate.

ridic beau (NickB), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 13:09 (fourteen years ago)

Probably gonna vote Lost Blues on this btw.

ridic beau (NickB), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 13:10 (fourteen years ago)

i think Brave and the Bold is pretty great especially Thunder Road, It's Expected I'm gone, and Daniel

mizzell, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 13:45 (fourteen years ago)

Viva Last Blues

Moka, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 13:48 (fourteen years ago)

Viva Last Blues vs. I See a Darkness imho

― in my world of loose geirs (Shakey Mo Collier)

Actually this, but going with Viva Last Blues. I See a Darkness is second best if only because it's more homogenic than the former... only uses one sort of palette... still does wonders with the few elements he uses.

Moka, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 13:50 (fourteen years ago)

Lost Blues, for the West Palm Beach/ Gulf Shores 1-2. On another day it could have been Viva Last Blues or the S/T one.

Neil S, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 13:53 (fourteen years ago)

ok so everyones split on the tortoise/bpb then

Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 18:31 (fourteen years ago)

Ended up voting There is No One What Will Take Care of Me, cos it's still my favourite - I love the scraping and wailing - but could easily have been Arise Therefore or Viva Last Blues. Would definitely have considered Hope had it been on the list.

Fizzles the Chimp (GamalielRatsey), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 18:34 (fourteen years ago)

i told G that whatever he did someone would say he missed out something!

Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 23:47 (fourteen years ago)

Oh I quite understand why, Hope's kind of betwixt and between EP and LP. But I do like it!

Fizzles the Chimp (GamalielRatsey), Thursday, 14 April 2011 08:11 (fourteen years ago)

i think he's going to do an ep poll after this

Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 14 April 2011 15:12 (fourteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

the two versions of Arise Therefore are identical, right? Strange to include both?

one dis leads to another (ian), Saturday, 23 April 2011 02:51 (fourteen years ago)

Thought I voted Ease Down The Road.

Four Shouters Shouting (Eazy), Saturday, 23 April 2011 05:15 (fourteen years ago)

Ease Down the Road getting zero votes is super O_o. It's sort of a companion piece to I See a Darkness, I guess it got lost in its shadow. Unfortunate, it's definitely among his best work.

circa1916, Saturday, 23 April 2011 08:54 (fourteen years ago)

i think Brave and the Bold is pretty great especially Thunder Road, It's Expected I'm gone, and Daniel

OK, Thunder Road and Daniel are actually pretty good on this, I'll give it that.

circa1916, Saturday, 23 April 2011 08:58 (fourteen years ago)

And I thought I voted Master & Everyone.. oh well.
